wakeskaters boycot?

What is up with the rumor that wakeskaters are boycotting comps? If it is because the way the Pro Tour runs it I understand. What a boring format watching it behind a PWC with a few sucky obstacles. Either do it with wake or put up some cool sliders like they did at worlds. Of course I could be wrong (probably) and it may be for some other reason or it is totally false to start with.

I think they need their own comps, with a sick skate style course. IMO they have there own style and they cant put up enough sliders, when running the same comps as the wakeboaders, because they get in the way of the wakeboarders. Wakeskatin has gotton big enough now to have their own comps!! Thats just my opinion. I dig wakeskatin, but I do come from a skateboard background growin up in southern cal. Its sick what they are throwin down

Aren't the wakeskaters as much to blame for not demanding those changes? Or is the Sea Doo money too good to pass up?

The Toe Jam style should be the standard. There is a wake, winch and pwc event and all competitors can compete in any event they want. The last one I think Grubb won 2 out of 3. Any who its just cool to break it down like that so all the discipline are given their just due.

grrr.... while they arent doing flippy spinny things ten feet in the air they are doing crazy technical lip tricks that require a buttload of skill. sea doos are plenty good for wakeskate comps. i think they should have no limit on falls to allow riders to go for those really hard inconsistent tricks.

I am a wakeskater and wakeboarder. I do a lot of judging in local comps and such. Wakeskating is really hard to judge. Therefore, I think it is hard to have a competition with a format that everybody agrees with. I think the Byerly Toe Jam is the best. As far as INT or whatever goes, something besides subjective scoring needs to be introduced.

Crazy technical lip tricks require a lot of skill but is BORING to watch. If you want to see it get sponsors, be invited to X Games, etc forget the Sea Doo technical tricks and do something entertaining.

Tim, do you actually think the riders didn't have suggestions to make a better format?

in the end, growth really does come down to spectator appeal. Right now, I don't know where improvement could come from...boat vs. pwc, changing the fall limit or judging standards, etc. Seriously, if the riders had more room when it comes falls and such, they might try more difficult tricks like more flip variations, etc. And more rails that are also interesting would help as well. And by intersting, I'd say rails that you'd have to ollie onto, and then you could add in all sorts of combos like shuvs on, etc.

However, spectators do like (sorry this sounds really cheesy) "big air". And quite frankly, wake to wake tricks are what will separate the men from the boys. In my opinion, that IS the next step that wakeskating will take, because it will get to a point where a ton of riders will have all of their tricks down in the flats...so what's the next step? gapping those tricks like one would when skating actual transitions or other big street gaps.

So, whatever. There's definitely room for improvement and I think just about everyone knows that. Wakeboard formats weren't perfect in the beginning (writing down a pass, 25 second limits, etc). It just took a hell of a long time to progress...and in the end, I think it takes a special comp/format to make an activity like wakeboarding or wakeskating look REALLY good. Like that oakley pool? OMG!!! OMG!!!

Aaron Reed doing wake to wake shuv 3's would be pretty entertaining to see at a comp. When wakeskaters start doing things off the wake, that skateboarders do off of ramps, it's going to get interesting. They just need to take everything that they've been doing in the trough and in the flats, wake to wake. Imagine a wake to wake backside flip on a wakeskate? I would crap my pants.

i love wakeskating just as much if not more than wakeboarding. personally with the blackbox winch and 1000 ft of rope i think comps could be so sick if done alittle different. 1000 ft is over 3 football fields long so imagine a bunch of pools with rails all connecting to each other(gaps, stairs, boxes, all the stuff youd find at your local park). you could probably have 8 diferent obsticles in a row so just kinda mimic the street skating course in the xgames. near my house we have a river wash and as soon as we get a winch its gonna be fun cuz the river wash breaks off into 4 different paths and is all a foot deep so we can go upstream with a variety of options and rails for 1000 ft

even though people think wakeskating can be boring cuz its all tech tricks, lip tricks, not gymnastic tricks but for me personally it feels twice as good to land a bs bigspin skatin compared to any kind of 7 or 9 on my wakeboard. i love skateboarding so thats why wakeskating is so fun.

The worlds were mostly obstacles and I heard the riders loved it and it was really fun to watch. Somebody mentioned Toe Jam and how they have three different sessions. I like that idea. Have a wake to wake, an obstacle and a PWC. Or just put up more obstacles with a boat and have 4 passes instead of 2 with unlimited falls. Riders would have have to show they can do all of the above and it would be fun to watch. The obstacles on the Pro Tour are weak. The flat bar is the only really good one. That little wakeskate slider is only hit or tapped. No one is doing much on it. Maybe make it less high and a lot longer. Barrels are ok but one is enough. I would like to see the transfer box made into something they could hit.

Tim, I certainly don't know you're joking! I get really crazy about this stuff, and I'll pretty much defend it till..death. does that scare anyone?

When wakeskating has to share a day with the wakeboards, the byerly format is just not feasible.
