I got a call last week from Daisy at the Merced Malibu plant and she said they were sending technicians out in the field to do some preventative maintenance on 08 Malibu's. I assume since production is down at the Merced plant given the economy. Two techs came to my house today and spent about an hour and a half going through my boat. They upgraded the computer, checked the prop shaft alignment, recalibrated the power wedge and several other little things. Nothing major. Anyway I thought it was pretty cool they are out and about taking care of their customers and finding things for their employees to do instead of laying them off or downsizing.

At least you can get good service from Malibu. I dropped of my center seat cushion on 12-4-08 in Merced for re-upholstry and still don't have it back. This was for warranty work.

Call them up and give them hell. That's stupid, they're not exactly full tilt over there.

Yeah I did. The guy I keep trying to talk to won't return my phone calls. It was only when I finally sent an email through the malibuboats website that I finally got a response. That was mid Jan and he told me it should be done in 2-3 weeks then they would ship it out. I find it annoying that they can upholster an entire boat in one day but it takes 2 months to re-do a rectangular removable seat cushion.

Hmmm...

Do you all have the same model 08 BUs?

Are they trying to visit every 08 BU that they can?

why would they do that?

ha-ha i hear what your saying andy. i love my Bu too and i hope they come visit me and do work for free too.

But it is a business not Unicef, it costs money to send field techs out. money for per diem, money for hotels, money for travel etc.

I think it's cool as hell too, but i'm just really surprised, that's all.

Is there a place to request a visit, or do they just call you out of the blue and schedule a visit?

I read over on themalibucrew.com that they are coming to visit 08 BUs to fix an issue with the shift by wire, and replace the blackbox/stereo component which had problems working with the new iPods...

very cool for them to step up and "make it right" on these 08 Malibus

Yeah I remember this last year when they wanted to have them all repaired by July 4th weekend. I think it is great that they are stepping up and doing it.....

TJ,
A couple of things.
My throttle issue was fixed last summer within about 5 days of the recall so they didn't touch it this week. There is an issue with the ipod and the black box but it has to do with Apple licensing issues and that still has not been addressed so they didn't work on that either. I was told it was a software upgrade so that if the battery is turned off you don't lose your presets or wedge calibration. In the past if your battery was disconnected you would have to recalibrate your wedge. As I mentioned above it was mostly little stuff and nothing major.

I am sure the RANKING in the JD POWER awards has nothing to do with Malibu not PAYING to be in it... They are spending money on serviceing their customers, not going after awards...
