Riders from the south...what do you wear when the water starts to get chilly as it is now?

Looking at an 8oz long sleeve top. Thinking it will keep the water bearable into mid November

By Jan/Feb, the water around here is in the low 50's. I prefer my 3mil wet suit, but have ridden in shorts and a heater top.

so a 3mm top would be preferred?

As long as you go with the 100* rule (water + air = 100) you should be fine in whatever you want to wear.

Drysuit well not quite yet but I aint too proud to say yes I wear a drysuit in florida in the winter. You stay warmer when you get out of it, while in the water, and less water in the boat.

^^^ME too, I'm in Houston, when the water drops below aboout 65-68 I'm in a drysuit. I despise the cold!I go from shorts to drysuit, then drysuit to shorts.

^^^^^^^ dry suits are for tools j/k wish I had one. Its not that bad down here in the Houston area but no matter what you wear your ears still catch hell, I draw the line at wearing a neoprene hood on my melon. I do have a pair of neoprene hunters gloves for my hands. Camo I might add. lol

the water's around 70 right now and I'm still riding boardshorts only.... But as the other people in the club say, I have insulation... So, meh.... Will probably start wearing my shorty or my rash guard that wishes it was a heater top starting next week when I get back from visiting home.

You will learn that you will want to be warmer rather then colder. I start out with a long sleeve 2/1 top then move to a 3/2 long suit. We see water temps only about as low as mid 50's.
