My wife says that I am obsessed with wakeboarding, which I am, and that riding twice a week (3-4 hr) from May through September is unreasonable.

So I am wondering how often you all ride.

not nearly enough... still waiting for this damn hole in my ear to heal up.

There's no such thing as too much wakeboarding. Try getting your wife into the sport! We need more girls who ride anyway!

I finally got my wife to learn to drive the boat last week. She likes to swim in the lake now in the evening, so she takes me out for a 30 minute set and then we hang out and swim. Weather permitting it's hopefully going to be a 5 day a week thing (after work) and then some riding in the weekend. You just need to get her involved somehow.

I normally get about 1 1/2 month riding a couple sets every day...
but it's still not enough!

Becky - she actually does ride. She's just not interested in waking up at 6am. And I'm not interested in going in the afternoon when the water sucks.

Oh God, time for a new wife!!!!!

I ride at least 5 times a week for 5-6 hours. Thank god my wife puts up with it. Honestly the only reason I dont ride on some days is because I am sore or its windy.

About once every week and a half. This is life with a baby. I would ride every day if I could so count yourselves fortunate those that ride multiple times per week.

Eubanks if its any consolation I do feel fortunate.

Ha! Yeah, it helps. I rode 2 or 3 times per week post college but before marriage. Rode once per week after marriage. Ride more like once every two weeks post baby. I see a downward spiral developing! I honestly don't know how your bodies handle riding mutiple sets per day 5 or 6 times a week. I guess you have to build up to it but riding back to back days even hurts my old body.

Being obsessed with wakeboarding is a good thing:-)

under normal circumstances my husband and I ride 3-4 days a week, 2 sets a day. This year, due to injuries, work and weather we only are making it out like once a week on average. Hopefully that changes soon.

3-4 Times a week with the family. My wife initiates wanting to take the boat out half the time. She likes to surf and my 3yr old daughter just got into riding a tube. It works out for everyone since I like to wakeboard or surf, wife likes surfing and being on the boat in general and my daughter likes to swim or ride the tube.

Its great family time and I feel extremely fortunate. Hitting the lake in about an hour too!

All depends if my girl is in town.....If work doesn't get in the way.....
Without (weather permitting) 3-4 times a week
With 1 MAYBE 2 times
Either way, she still think's it's too much, and she rides too!

Not enough.... maybe 4 sets a month. From the end of may to late September.

3/4 days a week... but usually only 1 set per day.

Any more than that my body hates me... and when we go out there usually is only two of us... so from cranking the lift down to up is usually only like 1 hour.

My fiance' loves being out in the boat with us every chance she can.... do you ever bring your lady along?
Old     (soonerwake85)      Join Date: Jun 2007       06-19-2009, 2:35 PM Reply
Try to go twice a week during the good months. Once after work during the week, and once on the weekend. Started a new job this month and have already seen that decline to once a week. Bummer.

I bring her along every chance I get, but she "always feels like the 3rd wheel" on the boat, working on that, but we talk form, wakes, ballast, equipment and what not, she just doesn't care about that stuff, so it's tough

I was riding 2-3 times a week until I started getting burned out in late May. I have not ridden in two weeks. I might ride tomorrow but I am not super pumped on it. Usually its 2-3 times a week during the summer; right now I am just not feeling it though, almost like I am over wakeboarding....ugh.

3/4 days a week, two sets each each time. my lady comes out everytime and normally does one set each time (and pulls me). however, even though she wants to come everytime (she'd be upset if she didn't get to) she too thinks that i'm too obsessed with wakeboarding.

2-3 times a week, year round. multiple vacations to different lakes around the southern U.S. every year.

when living in Renton WA.. we were cut back to once a week or so.

My wife thinks i am obsessed too, and that wake has "become a need." which i agree with. I honestly feel like this is my first and only obsession, but i am not gona get into that. I want to get more than once a week (5 months of year) but my wife says that once a week should be enough and that i should be happy with what i have... and i am but that doesn't mean i wont be happier and safer with more since i wont be tempted to wakeboard till my body gives out trying to fill one full day

once a week on average, but so far it is a bit less than that coming into this year which is not making me happy but at the same time i am like, "Ohh well, what do you expect...?"

(possible) Factors:
No Boat of own
Young Baby
Matching schedules with the small handful of individuals in this small town that actually wake
Shear Bad Luck (such as attempting to use the local public winch 7 times and never having luck for various reasons)

BRING ON THE WAKE PARKS!!!

I've been riding pretty consistent once a week, but would like to get more water time. My wife thinks I'm obsessed with the sport, but just can't help myself. Granted, I've only been into it for a couple of years, so I'm sure that plays into it. If I had it my way, I'd be riding at least 2-3 times per week.

I ride twice a week, 3-4 hours each time out. Unfortunately, my wife hates the water and boating in general. She might come out with me twice a year at best. My wakeboarding hobby (or habit) used to be an issue with her earlier in our marriage, but know she is used to it. It helped when she found a hobby of her own. Now she's out of the house doing her hobby more than I am with mine.

Funny you mention getting up at 6 am to ride. It's now 5:07 am and I'm getting ready to go ride some morning butta Your problem is simple.... you get up early and ride at 6 am and then have her meet you at the dock around 11 am. Then you still get your good water and you get to be on the lake all day without getting yelled at by your wife.

Richard, your wife sounds a little like mine. Wifee had her first trip on the boat this W/E this year. Might be August or September before she goes again, but like you said it helps she has her own interests (long distance running) and she runs more than I ride, which is about 2-3 times a week.

Jeremy, it is a LOT tougher to get water time when you have little ones, especially if your wife is not a natural on the boat. I did not have a boat until my oldest got to be around 4 or 5 and could more easily take him along and even then I didn't ride much (2-3x / month) until my youngest was 4 or 5. Job-1 was always the kids. When they get to that age where all the kids want to be on the boat more and start getting into the tow sports, things will break loose for you.

I try to ride 2 days a week (Saturday and Sunday) May-September.. and try to get 2-3 sets per day if the water is good and I am not too sore... The Wife is OK with it (but she does think that I am obsessed, since I found Wake World, and I am unemployed and have all the time to be on it)... She does not ride and will not, I have given up on trying to talk her into it. BUT, she drives for me, coaches me, and cheerleads.... This year though, my water time has been less with an 8 month old... Our problem is finding a 3rd to help with the baby... Last year, she went out every weekend in close to 100` heat up to 7 months pregnant, so I really can't complain. The bad thing is now I am a stay-at-home dad and have all the time in the world to wakeboard and all my friends that ride have to work!!!! I hope that I can get 2 days in this weekend

3-4x/week. My wife is just as into it as me, so I'm lucky. We have 4 kids, take 2 to the lake and leave the twin babies at home with a sitter. Watersports are about the best times a family can spend together, plus it's great exercise. Everyone gets to do something fun, even if it is just swimming. At least you're not a golfer ;)

Usually a ton more than I am now, but the combination of the terrible weather which has consisted of glassy water but freezing air temps or hot air temp but ridiculous wind speeds and lazy friends has slowed the process down. I've been trying to suck it up and just ride but its incredibly hard to get friends to come out on the lake when its 60 and cloudy or to find rideable water when the wind is blowing at 30mph. For some reason central New York has not has a decent day for wakeboarding in June yet. With all that said I usually ride about 10 sets a week but now its about 3-6.

Weekends are just too busy unless I can get an early morning or late evening set in. I shorten my clinic hours on Tuesday and Thursdays so we can hit the lake for a few hours and get some sets in. All told, I probably get about 6 sets a week in.

Depends on the tides (and whether the boat is running, I have ridden like 4 times this year because the motor gave up and is STILL being rebuilt after 2 months) between 2 and 5 times a week, either one set or two a day depending on how full the boat is.

BTW I didn't start wakeboarding till I was 35....

Richard wins for post of the day.

I ride, probably on avg, once every week and a half currently. My problem is being spoiled for too many years. I grew up 3 miles from a long river that was constant glass while I was in school. After school, move to a big city where I have to drive almost an hour after working all day just get in some blown out choppy cove sharing it with 3 other boats, makes it hard when you're used to the former.
