I'm sitting at work bored out of my mind and I've been trying to think of all the people who have landed 1080s and what type. I remember about a year back when I could count on one hand the number of people but now its a little more confusing and now Im pretty sure I dont know all of them

Heres who I know for sure

Parks Bonifay - Switch TS
Danny Harf - Switch HS/TS
Rusty Malinoski - Switch TS
Brad Smelle - Switch(?) TS
Tino Santori - Switch(?) TS
Bob Soven - Switch TS
Aaron Rathy - Switch HS/TS
- Regular Wrapped BS
- Regular Wrapped Ole BS
Phillip Soven - Regular Ole (Controvesial)
Steel Lafferty - Switch(?) TS

Is this it and are they the right type or am I missing a few? Sorry I forgot cable riders, Im not really familiar with who has landed what on cable since so many of them throw down. If you wanna give me the names of the cable riders who have done one feel free to do so!

true- Steel is the only true member of the wake 1080 club, now a bunch have hit them off dubs and kickers, but damn, a 1080 off the wake is unreal

Matt Simms, Harley Clifford, Phil Soven, Shane Bonifay, Bryan Hutton are all so close to the 1080 club

Never understood why there's always an asterisk by Mark Kenny's name saying that it was a rumor. Does anyone really think that his 1080's were just some elaborate hoax?
Old     (benbuchholz)      Join Date: Oct 2009       12-25-2009, 8:58 AM Reply
^^ duh...nothings true unless there's video. (sarcasm). agreed, anthem. If you watch videos of Mark Kenney, I think its pretty safe to say he definitely had the capability to land one. his Tribute video on youtube is one of my faves to watch.

Wow that back 1080 off the kicker was real impressive and legit, any more footage of Matty Hasler?

I count Kenny, you can call hoax if you want, but to me, he'll always be the first

Mark Kenney:

This guy spun like crazy, it wouldn't surprise if he hit multiple variations of 10's and he probably would have nailed a 12 in his career.

Not a 1080 but a triple s-bend, absolutely insane. Pretty much a 1080 if you really think about it even though its on cable.

Triple S? Indian Line???
Old     (petew)      Join Date: Dec 2008       12-26-2009, 10:38 AM Reply
yeah its an indian line. No one has stuck one on a normal line.
Old     (lfxstar)      Join Date: Jul 2001       12-27-2009, 5:14 AM Reply
Peter, yes they have. Bernhard Hinterberger has done them along with I'm sure a few others. I've seen Marc almost stick one too and that was over a year ago so I bet he has hit one by now. I guarantee if Marc and Diego decided to try them all day pushing eachother they would both stick one and it wouldn't take too many falls. The fall would be the worst thing about that trick.
Norbi, chime in here. You would know better than I

i dont get what an indian line is
Old     (westcoastripper)      Join Date: Sep 2005       12-27-2009, 8:02 AM Reply
Steel's is the only true 10 cause it was wake to wake, i mean come on the kids like what 16 or 17 and stomped a wake to wake toe 10???? and rathy beat him out for trick of the year, how so?? nothing against rathy because the kid has a bag of tricks that is just stupid and hes just has been slaying everything this year, but a wake to wake 10 is harder then anything off a dub, execpt for d harfs 12. the only person ive seen that close to a wake to wake 10 was kyle murphy doing a wrapped version of that.
Old     (petew)      Join Date: Dec 2008       12-27-2009, 8:35 AM Reply
an indian line is a short line for a cable ski. it gives the rider more uplift becuse they are pretty much hanging off the cable.

urm.......ill try and investigate myself as well but im still pretty sure no one has landed one yet. im pretty sure i would of heard about it. i also have seen all the close attempts and all the ones landed on a short line.

and yeah i agree if a couple of the top boys were to hammer them out one would be landed pretty soon.

A respectable opinion, I personally think Rathy deserved the award over the w2w 10. As rediculous as a w2w 10 is and how young Steel is I give the guy major props, but age doesn't come into effect choosing move of the year. D harfs 12 was sick, but I would have to say Rathys bs 10 was better than the 12. I see more people doing ts 9s vs bs 7, which leads me to believe that even while taking the 180 out the bs move is generally harder for most. Bs 10 was grabbed and clean while Harfs 12 had a huge wheelie landing...

I almost feel like I'm downtalking a w2w 10 and 12 as if they're easy

But these are just my opinions :-)

The BS 10 was wrapped, which I am in no way saying that takes away the cred from it, but it DOES make the w2w 10 and cab 12 more legit for move of the year IMO. Wrapping up is kind of like getting a cheater spin off the kicker, and wrapping up for a 10 really gives you an advantage if you think about it. I personally thought Rathy's 10 was a cooler looking trick because it was so controlled and it didn't look hucked at all verses Steel's and Dblocks although Steel's was PRETTY clean

Just thought I'd point out something about Phil being on the list. If you pause the Crow 7 half way through, he is clearly 100% inverted.. which means it wasn't a 1080. Definitely a Crow 7! Just my 2 cents!
Old     (jason95gt)      Join Date: May 2006       12-28-2009, 7:35 PM Reply
Call me stupid, but how is a crow 7 anything close to a 1080? ISn't it missing another 360 deg.
Old     (lfxstar)      Join Date: Jul 2001       12-28-2009, 7:44 PM Reply
because the argument is that he doesnt get inverted and that it is more of an ole 10
Old     (lfxstar)      Join Date: Jul 2001       12-28-2009, 7:44 PM Reply
in snowboarding it would be considered a 10
Old     (petew)      Join Date: Dec 2008       12-29-2009, 4:07 AM Reply
the crow 7/1080 is a tough call i reackon. There is no way you will get every 1 agreeing on what it is. first time i saw it i thought crow 7 and then after a few more veiws i started likening it to a 1080. im in the middle. its both. which makes it a crow 1800.

pretty sure harley is super close to landing 10s wake2wake.. and someone at cable was saying he landed a 10 off the kicker the other day...
Old     (jason95gt)      Join Date: May 2006       12-29-2009, 8:18 AM Reply
After looking at that video I would say he is inverted, but why is it called a crow 7 if he is spinning a 10?
Old    justinh            12-29-2009, 8:38 AM Reply
It is definetly a Crow-7 and not an off-axis 1080. The axis get a little mixed because of the amount of spinning, but is definately a continuation of his crow-mobe 5. He even said the same. Once and for all, not a 1080.

ok i just watched that new day in the life of Mr. Bob Soven and holy sh%t. First off he's next to land the 12, that one early in the vid was so close. Second, Rathy, Rusty, Danny, Phil all the heavy hitters watch out for harley and bob because they got tricks in there bag on lock that none of those guys can do. There were heel and toe 7's and 9's switch and regular all over that vid, back 7's like they were steeling candy from a baby. These kids are just getting stupid on a wakeboard. Bob's nose grabbed 9's in the vid of the dub were stalled at the end of the rotation as he floated down to land. WOW WOW i got to get off his nuts but that was nuts just like the horan's crews's vid on alliance

I mentioned Matty Hasler's 1080 in my "5 Biggest Developments in Wake" for 2009 story on FUEL TV. Also Mark Kenney's 10's - may he Rest in Peace.

http://www.fuel.tv/wakeboarding/

And my condolences to Mark's family, friends and to the sport - seriously. That still makes me sad - and I remember reading it first here on WW. RIP Mark Kenney. Incredibly talented rider.
