Looking at New Boat MC X 30 `

Ok- I don't want this to turn into " you should look at _____ boat" , Just wondering if anyone has some decent pictures of the X 30 Wakeboard wake and Surf wake with reasonable amounts of ballast. I have no plans on putting more than the stock and maybe an extra 400 in each rear compartments.

I don't have any pics at work, but I can tell you, that you will want a lot more ballast for the surf wake........ (as you will find with any boat)

A 750 in the locker, and a 750 or 1000, in the port coffin, would do nicely.

The 2 added 400s would probably do fairly well for the wakeboard wake. It takes a bit of weight to get a great wakeboard wake out of the 30, but properly weighted, it is very nice.

I know that you said that you didn't want a "you should look at this" type of thread, but if you are looking for the best wakeboard wake, with minimal ballast, the X25 is the ticket. You would still need a lot of ballast for the surf wake though. There again, you are giving up a little bit of surf wake if you go with the X25. (Although not much. The X25 produces a great surf wake as well)


And yes, 501s has some very good info on dialing in the wakeboard wake.

I am very familiar with the 25- and really like it, but for our purposes, the room, functionality and overall use of the boat, the 30 is better.

I purchased a 2012 x30 last season and have a 2013 on order. We put about 100 hrs on it last season and got it dialed. Here are my thoughts.

The wake and surf wave stock are good. All that the average rider needs but as with any boat more weight makes them bigger. I added 750s to the rear and that is all you will really ever need. The surf wave is fantastic, so much push and a perfect lip. It's the best surf boat in the MC line up. Personally I don't feel you need anymore then this. I've seen people who never dropped the rope on my Moomba do it with ease 1st try on the 30.

The wakeboard wake is also awesome with the extra weight. It's huge, clean and consistent. We wanted a boat that you could ride at 17 for kids or 23 for adults. The wake on the 30 does this with ease even with lots of weight. We can run it with 2500 lbs and ride at 21 to learn new tricks or 23 and the wake is always clean and consistent. It's now my favorite wake when fully weighted. I like the fact that it never curls over and isn't super sensitive side to side weight.

I am willing to bet it is this.- The 2012s had some random issues with the Medallion electronics. New software revisions have fixed most of the issues, except ballast level accuracy. They are still working on getting that better.

The '13s are using Murphy controls, which are much, much better. MasterCraft helped a lot of 2012 customers get into a 2013 for very little $$. They seem to have fixed the main issues, but it was an aggrevating summer for some 2012 customers. Because of that, MC stepped up, in order to keep their customers happy.

I was one of them as well.... I had a 2012 X25. MC took the boat back, and I have an Xstar on the way.

Hmm- good to know- I'd like to learn a bit more about this and how MC is fixing the issue(s). In all likelihood, I'll buy a used boat- unless I can get some silly deal on a new one.

I had video of the surf wave but I don't know what happened to it but anyway the surf wave is amazing. It reviles some of the best surf boats out there with only the stock ballast. The wakeboard wake wasn't as impressive as I thought It would be but for any beginner/ intermediate rider that's all you need.

My Dealer (MMS is Edmonton) have been unbelievable to deal with. They treated me extremely fair and we worked out a deal I couldn't turn down. I could have chosen any boat but The X30 was the perfect boat for our family and our needs. Really looking forward to summer!



Here is my 2012.

I spoke to MC recently on the SW update...they updated the firmware to address the issues. They added features to the 2012 screens,such as better screen layouts, cruise with perfect pass has been improved by dialling in the settings, the touch screen sensitivity settings/config has been updated and they added adjustable ballast timing to the dealer configured setup.

The short story is that MC and the dealers really looked after those that felt the teething issues...beyond that, I'd say that Medallion controls aren't going to be phased out of the boat industry anytime soon. I'm also under the impression that FW Murphy uses the same manufacturer for the screens and that the 2012/2013 have the same ECM.

I'd say if you can find a 2012, go for it, you won't be disappointed.

What James said above is kind of true, but then is wake of a 2nd gen Xstar, A22 or most other boats for that matter gigantic with only 900lbs? Of course some are better than others but in most cases to get the pro size wakes you need pro amounts of ballast.

I have ridden behind some silly boats- a friend's 2001 x star with ALMOST 4000 extra ballast- a friends SAN with the stock plus an additional 2000+ and Travis Moye's X star fully sacked. I don't need or want that size of wake- it frankly scared the piss out of me. I was trashing my knees landing in the flats and booting me so High I wasn't sure I was coming down. I do Big Back rolls, 2-3 types of 180's the VERY occasional 360, and a lot of wake to wake grabs. I love riding, but at 46 I am more interested in riding a great, nicely shaped wake that will give MOST rider's a great boot, smooth transition and is rock solid with no wash. I don't need an excess of weight, and I don't want to be adding a ton outside of stock- some is fine- but i expect a decent, VERY acceptable wake with STOCK ballast. It will be a huge disappointment to me if I need to ADD weight to get a great wake. My 2001 Tige with 600 in the walk and 400's on each side of the V drive makes a very good wake for the crowd I ride with and the surf wake is outstanding. I could save a lot of money keeping my boat if I'm not going to see significant improvement in wake performance.

Will - some 400's on top of stock and 200lbs of lead in the nose of your X30 will be plenty for me..

Hey Will, going by what you own and what you are looking for, the X30 will be fit all your needs perfectly. The wake is a firm, clean and can be as big as you want but is a great size with just stock or stock plus 800.

The things that were not mentioned were the vast storage (you can fit 3 surfboards and 2 wakeboards just in the coffin storage) rear flip seat (one of the best features), and handling. Good luck on the test drive.

I like the x30 - looked at it when I got my LSV. It has a good size interior and I like the dash setup. I like that MC still offers teak swim platform. Probably the only thing I don't like is the looks of the tower.
