I have a couple smaller dings that i would like to keep smaller... How do i seal them up or fix them? I dont want the water to erode the dings into anything larger... thanks for the help, jb
Everyone will say epoxy or fibre glass compound... The absolute best thing in my opinion!!!
JB WELD. I had a friend with a brand new board... fell off the rack... and got stuck in the cleat... so you can imagine the 6 inch long 3 inch deep chunk out of the side of the board...
I picked away at the foam and fragments and then filled with multiple layers of JB WELD... then sanded it... it is stronger than the original!!!
West Marine sells epoxy in handy single serving packets. It works great for things like this. At the end of the snowboarding season, I use it to fix all the new dings in my snowboard.
JB WELD can be bought at a hardware store or walmart or automotive parts place. this stuff is like liquid metal... once it drys... it can be sanded... but not much will be able to break it... i find other epoxies change when exposed to heat, sun, water etc.... JB WELD is used to glue together minor cracks in engine blocks... that should tell you how strong it is!
i agree, whats a small ding? it gives the board character and its not going to keep you from sticking your new move. But, if its deep enough, can't water seep into the core of the board and really screw it up?
One other thing when I used JB WELD... I spread the JB WELD over the "edge ding" and then use a strip of clear packing tape and wrap it so it takes the shape of the edge... when it dries after 24 hours, you peel the tape off and the JB WELD peels off from the smooth parts of the board leaving only JB WELD in the damaged area... works like a dream...
