I've never boughten my own gear, i've always used the ones on the boat. but now it's time i buy my own.

Weight: 155
Foot size: 13
height: 6'1

so i think 139?

i like to jump (cant clear the wake yet). but i can do grabs.

I dont really want to spend more than $350 w/ binding package.

the hyperlite era is a great board for the price also the liquid force substance (watsons old pro model) is what a lot of my friends ride and they love it. Both boards come in a 138ish and 142 size so pick ur preference and they r both under 350

Check out the CWB FAZE/Seven package deal with the CWB Seven bindings and the proline rope/Handel and instructional dvd.
Most shops sell this setup for 349.99
it comes in a 141cm or 135cm
135cm up to 180lbs
141cm 160 and up.

i think a 135 is gonna be too small for you. i always prefer a little more board under my feet so id step it up into the 137-142 range

If you get these that leaves you with 200 for a board. You could get a 05 or 06. The Hyperlite 3DS would be a good board for you because it's fast and you would get across the wake easier because of it. I have also heard good things about the pop it has.

thats what i was thinking.

are these bindings good? i think my long toes would stick off the edge if they fit a size 11.

It says 11-13. Some people even buy their bindings a size small. They won't hang off the edge. You'll probably have about 1/4 to 1/2 an inch from the end of the footbed.

If you are just begining the motive is a great board i currently ride a 2001 belmont which is the same as the motive just back when it used to be a pro model. it as taken me from not clearing the wake to learning beginning inverts last year
Old     (zombeh)      Join Date: Apr 2007       04-14-2007, 7:19 PM Reply

or i can get this 06 3ds for $220 shipped w/ no bindings.

Edit: "Company comments: A hard-edging, continuous carver. A Parks series without the bucking snap off the wake.usually for tricks on the flats."

does this mean it wont let me catch air?

You should get the Team and the Fuse bindings. The fuse bindings are the ones i posted. The team retails for 280 and with the fuses it would be only $30 more than the team with elements.

CWB Faction, a little more than you want to spend but the board and bindings are killer. Get the board and find some 06 bindings on sale.

go to www.buywake.com and check out what package deals they have going on most of the 06 gear is probably on sale
Old     (wakeeater)      Join Date: May 2002       04-14-2007, 10:21 PM Reply
the 3ds says without the bucking snap because it doesnt snap up off the wake but it atill pops and by tricks to the flats it means clearing into the flats over the second wake
Old     (zombeh)      Join Date: Apr 2007       04-15-2007, 12:01 AM Reply
all wakeboard packages are out of XL bindings which leaves me hanging. i'll pass on the faction too, still too expensive. would the 3ds be too advanced for me?

Might as well start out with the new innovative Slingshot boards. The Recoil 142 is a great place to start. The Slingshot Driver bindings are so comfortable, can't go wrong.

Sean, the drive series is pretty decent stuff. I would call them and see if they would ship it to you for the 138. They have a pretty good reputation. The setup ej posted is also good stuff.

it was too late when i tried calling back 10 minutes early :-(

im just going to try and find a place that demos boards this weekend atlake mead and see what i really need. ive been told to stay away from hyperlite now...
Old     (kmcginty)      Join Date: Sep 2005       04-19-2007, 6:32 AM Reply
Thats rediculous. There is no brand to stay away from. Every brand has their strengths and weakness's. You prob just heard someones brand loyalty getting in the way of honestly trying to help you. I am not pushing any brand, but you are on the right track with demoing. Good luck and just let us know what you got. (we like to see pics)

i for sure will, it's just so hard to find a place to demo unless i go to phx and somehow get on lake pleasant with someone. hopefully lake mead has a place in the harbor that demos boards.

Hyperlite is a great company, whoever told you to stay away from Hype has no clue!!

No company preference. I own Hyperlite, Liquid Force and now trying Ronix for the first time. Sean I heard from a few in shops and on the phone (mainly the performance ski and surf guys in florida). Just a thought, but you might want to look at Ronix Vault or Venue. I was doing some searchin for my brother in law who is in the same boat as you. For the price, you can get a very nice rig with the Ronix Vault or Venue packages. The vault package will be over the 350 mark, but might be a good look if you can find stretch or wiggle room. But the venue fits your 350 mark and you will not be disappointed. My brother in law went with the Venue. Tried it out in Florida the first time and loves it! Now just got to wait for the H2O to warm here in Michigan.

i really like that vault. ronix is made by the original owners of hyperlite who bailed right?
Old     (mucktoerider)      Join Date: Jan 2007       04-19-2007, 10:25 AM Reply
Sean, that is correct. You can call Ronix if you have any questions. 888-766-4926 If you ask for Paul, you will be talking to one of the owners...Paul O'Brien. They are very nice people to work with. But then again I called CWB and talked to a tech person there, he was very nice and informative. The Vault is a very foregiving board. And since you already know how to wakeboard, it might be a good fit for you. But then again I am not sure what style you are use to since you borrowed boards from the boat. Two main types are continous rocker and the 3 stage rocker. Then there is hybrids or blends to those differet styles. I don't want to confuse you with those. But like I mentioned, if you talk to the shops like Performance, Wake Giant or Ronix they can help you determining the style you are use to. Looks like no one mentioned about the two styles in this thread. I bought my wife the new Coy board from Wake Giant in California. And my brother in law got his new set up from Wake Giant as well. Shawn the associate there gave me and my brother in law a great deal on board and boots. Plus they have a great ride garantee. If you do not like it, return it within so many days for another board to try. No shipping charges, probably only for the return process. And with you in AZ, it should not be that much. Good Luck and let me know what you get.

thank you so much scott, that's exactly what i needed to hear. i will call them when i get back from lake mead on monday. that gurantee is pretty nice, i'd pay extra just to have that. My style is undetermined at this point. i definatly want to be able to clear the wake while doing grabs and stuff (almost at that point). theres no rails or any of that stuff around here so i dont care about that. i hope to get a board in 2 weeks. ill get back to all of you on monday, we are leaving now.

have fun this weekend if you guys get out.

If your looking for a good deal I was at Wiley's yesterday and they had new 2005 141 hyperlite premiers with the DNA core in 2nd and 3rd for cheap. They wanted $200 for the 2nd's and $150 for the 3rd's. For the boards I looked at all of the defect were cosmetic and you really had to look hard to find them.
