I just got back from NAB and got to check out the new Red camera. The 4K picture looked great of course but i was just blowen away by the fact that you can shoot 2 hrs of 4k on a 320g drive then take that same drive and plug it into your FCP system with a firewire 800 and edit on that very same drive. I have seen it with my own eyes and its just amazing. Technically its actaully only 2K in FCP but its still 4k when you export out.

wow.

Did you get a chance to see the new proRes 422 codec in action?

I haven't had a chance to read up about it. Wondering if one can capture HDV to that codec and then play out in RT off the timeline over firewire after rendering without re-conforming?

Ya they played it side by side with uncompressed and you couldnt tell the diference, plus it was blowen up. Im not sure if u could capture prores with HDV. The setting i saw was under the log and transfer (new for FCP 6, but same as P2 import) It was just a flip of the switch when transferring the P2HD or Red footage.
