X-2

My Dad is thinking about getting a X-2. Is this a good decision? How is the wake?

I love mine. As far as stock wake I think it is good but i am still a beginner so take my wake opinion with a grain of salt.

We teach our wakeboard school with an X2 and it is awesome. Great for wakeboarding/skating/surfing!! You will love it.

thanks guys, darren do you weight it any more than the stock? I have around 2000 pounds of manual ballast that i will be using in the x 2 and i need to know where to put it properly!

new x-2 or older X-2 = x-1

either way they are great, but I have only had 2 sets on a new X-2 with only stock ballast, its needs more either way old/new....but a great boat

I loved the wake behind it, Pretty much any Mastercraft X-series you are going to love. Good choice.

yea, I have gotten the chance to ride behind the X-Star, the X-10, and the X-30 and I loved them all. Im not truly sure what boat we will end up with.

wasn't the older x-2 hull the same as the x-star ?

^^^^^ YUp and is now the X1 hull. So would it be a new X2(pickle fork) or older X2?

If a new one I would see if you can bump up to the X-15...... Way more boat IMO. The X2 is very sensitive to weight and probably the hardest wake to dial in the V-Drive X-Series line. Great concept for garages, towing and very small crews, but other boats out perform that boat hands down in the MC line

Why does everyone always hate the new X2's (picklefork) so much... People say they the wake is sensitive, small and hard to get dialed in. Nothing could be further from the truth.

I have spent a little bit of time figuring it out and I would pit my wake up against anyone's and it is can be easily configured any number of ways to fit any rider skill level from beginner to pro.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion on which of the X-series boats to get, but I wouldn't just bypass the X2. As far as I am concerned, the X2 is the second best boat in the line up behind the X-Star. Some would say it could easily be considered the best all around boat in the Mastercraft line based on it's versatility.

It's because everyone rides different. Some like a rampy wake, some like a peaky wake. The upside to the pickle fork X2 is that it's roomy inside and the wake is very rampy. The downside is that it's a small wide wake in comparison to how much the boat costs.

I personally think the X2 has one of the worst wakes in a wakeboard specific boat. But I like a peaky wake.

However, the X1 wake is one of the best wakes ever, for me.

I have only had one set behind a 07 x-2 with only stock ballast and it was great. I think it could use a little extra but the wake stock was still really good IMO.

I love the X-2 wake, most people havent really ridden one pushed to its potential and are comparing it to other boats which they have ridden pushed to their potential.

The stock ballast for 09' is bigger than the 06-08s which should help.

We run the fly high system, it adds about 400lbs in each rear storage locker and another 450 or so in the bow. The rear bags help make an awesome surf wake too!

My buddy has a 07 X-2 and I have spent a ton of time behind it and really like it. It's a great wake for boarding and surfing. Stock ballast plus 450 in the rear lockers, and a little up front = awesome!

I think the X-2 drives better than the XStar, seems like the XStar nose dives a lot. We don't have that problem in the X-2, and it rides great, really takes the waves soft, doesn't pound you.

we do add more weight to the X2 (about 1500lbs).
For the best wakeboard wake we put fatsacs straight down the middle of the boat. But if you want floor space I would put one big sac in the bow and two smaller ones in the rear lockers. Weight the bow first then start adding to the rear.
For surfing all you really need is 400-500lbs on either side of the boat in the rear lockers. The X2 surfs great on both sides.

darren, do you put any weight in the kgb ballast when you surf.

what exactly does the Pure Vert Automatic Ballast System include on an 08 X-2?

the wake is big and dialed in with 2200lbs of sacs and no stock ballast! i dont have a pic right now but ill get one from my cousin, she takes all the pics!

J-sos, do you mean fly-high? The pure vert is only on MB and Calabria.

hmmm, i copied that from the description of an X-2 for sale on my local Mastercraft Dealer's website.

That is suprising that they don't even know what their own ballast setup is called.

I think it comes with a pair of vdrive sacks and an integrated bow sack. You can just run the overflows for the rear stock tanks into the vdrive sacks if I remember correctly. Not sure if you do the same for the integrated box sack?

How is the 310hp RTP engine on this particular model?

This has been discussed a few times. Darren has had had a boat with both and loaded them similar. He should have a good answer for you. From what I have heard the newer 310rtp(07-current) have something different than the previous models. The torque curves between the rtp and MCX are almost identical on the low end. With the right prop I believe the rtp to be just fine. Remember, this is just from what I have heard.

The 310 hp is fine as long as you are running a 14.25x14.5 or similar prop. Thats what comes stock on 08's, not sure about 07's.

The surf wake is great on both sides, but man the wakeboard wake is SO fickle! ...drove me nuts trying to figure it out -needs lead in the bow, for sure!

I actually sold my x1 and bought an x2 because I like a rampy wake. I run the fly high ballast addition and think the wake is great. I don't see what people mean when they say the wake is fickle. On my x1 I would ask people to slide over one foot to balance the wake. that is what I would consider fickle.

Someone fill me in on what you mean by fickle.

Shuffling everyone around every time we changed riders out...wake always seemed to crumble on Starboard side, no matter how much weight/people we put on that side.
What's your set up like?

Brian -no matter what boat you get EVERYONE is going to have their own opinion and experiences. I would die for a 2008 SAN 210, but I just can't afford it. Instead I'm looking at a 2007-2008 Malibu Vride...which I will still load the crap out of and enjoy every minute!

Here are a few pics from the weekend. Stock ballast full, 400 lb sack in the walkway full tank of gas and 5 in the boat. I plan on adding the sacs in the rear lockers and the bow sac in the spring. That should kick it up a notch.
