I am probably in trouble here for posting these, but got these pics from a friend who recently went with his dealer to the Mastercraft fanfair event. He said he wasn't allowed to take photos of this new yacht, but shot um' after the group walked on.

This baby looks enormous to me.Upload

yes, I looked... but to spend untold dollars developing a new boat then have some guy post them on the internet when clearly MC did not want it to happen is kind of a s**ty thing to do IMO.

Agreed. Nothing like treating somebody to something special, asking them not to do something, only to have them snap photos and stab you in the back when your back is turned. Total gomer move imo.

Looks like proof to me that MC must be weathering this economic mess pretty well. I have no need for a huge boat like that, but I like what MC is doing here. At a time when others may be forced to conserve resources, MC appears to be looking to roll out more products.

Pretty dope -thanks for sharing.
I wonder how much thought (if any) went in to wake itself?? ...think MC engineered a large hull to put out a huge wake? I would have to assume so, but there's got to be a point of diminishing returns.

Get real!! Entire magazines are devoted to doing the exact same thing in the car industry. If MC didn't want anyone to see the boat they would not let people around it. Manufacturers love this stuff, it builds a "buzz" about the product.

hahaha They should have had it under wraps like the automakers do! MC will probablly love all the hype these "leaked" pics develop! Is that even the MC factory? I agree it does look like a bigger Chaparral...

Agree that MC wants a buzz.

Why else wouldn't they banned the pics, including additional pics of the prop tunnels, on their site...

After reading the post at Teamtalk and seeing how similar it is to the one here, I think Jaak could be right...

I'm still trying to figure out why MC keeps designing saltwater/open-water boats with picklefork bows... it basically restricts them to being bay boats, which has no interest to me. Other than that, very cool looking IMO...

To those who asked about the attention to the quality of the wake, I think it's pretty clear that MC was definitely not intending this to be a wakeboat.

Considering that most people who would buy a boat like this for salt water only cruise the intracoastal or occasionally the ocean on a really calm day, the deck boat aspect (pickle) is not a bad way to go.

Also, the luxury deck boat would work great for large lakes and rivers.

You can see from the pictures it's not a deck boat, it's a cruiser. There is a cuddy cabin in the front not an open bow. That's why you have steps up both sides to go around the windshield to the front. It will be sweet to see the finished product.
Old     (timmy)      Join Date: Jul 2001       12-09-2008, 8:51 AM Reply
I call all pickle-boats deckboats. That is what they are. This one happens to have a cuddy.
Old     (hatepain)      Join Date: Aug 2006       12-09-2008, 8:54 AM Reply
I was thinking Sunsetta Xtreme too but they would be changing up the bow a bit as this one has no smaller point in between the pickle forks. The free board is what makes it look so massive assuming that guys not a midget.

I am so glad this is out. I have known about it for quite a while. It looks so mean. I don't think anyone is going to truely wakeboard behind it. Imagine what the surf wake will be like after it is sacked out.
Old     (psudy)      Join Date: Dec 2003       12-09-2008, 9:59 AM Reply
I think its a mistake to make it a cutty. Putting a cabin on it only takes away from the interior room. So your 30 ft boat is not really only a 20ft boat because nobody will spend any time below deck.
Old     (mctc)      Join Date: Oct 2006       12-09-2008, 10:15 AM Reply
Paul the boat is meant to be a cruiser, it's going to be 11 feet wide, with a radar arch, navigation package, and room for overnight trips. It's not meant to be a day boat therefore i don't see any other way to build the boat than with a cabin.

Matt, I don't think you are going to have to sack out this boat for an awesome surf wake. It will be huge!

Thanks for posting the picks. I dont think its a big deal. I agree If they don't want the public to see somthing Why walk them past it. Do you see the hoops car makers jump threw to hide new car's from the cammera's. Now with that said. If someone taking me for a factory tour asked me Not to take a picture and did it anyways thats a diffrent story. LOL For my enjoyment Im glad you took the pick LOL.

I have heard the same thing about Dubai as well. The people in Dubai love the Bling MC brings to the table but just want a bigger boat. So being a leader and not a follower MC is building it, and doing it at a time when lesser MFGs have been shut down for a couple months.
That oughta bring out some MC haters.

I see what you are saying Steve, and if there main support from the boat is coming from Dubai(which I doubt. They afford much larger boats)then its a viable option, but I think they will have a lot of people who will buy them for larger lakes here. A thirty foot cutty is not large. They should at least offer both options, cutty and open bow.
Cobalt had the 292, and 293, which were basically the same boat in cutty and open bow configurations. I have the open. I would not trade it for the cutty for anything. The only time I have slept on my boat is when I got stuck in the fog one night(I actually wish it was a cutty then!). The rest of the time I am glad I have the space.

For the record, I only have one crapper, and I am glad. I dry heav enough emptying it. My policy is if you use it. You empty it.

The Dubai MC dealer sells as many XStars, X45s and X80s they can get.
Dubai is not their "main support" for the boat but it sure helps. No credit approval problems over there.
I agree Paul it will be a nice boat for large lakes and all the coastal waterways here in FL.

What is the diff. between boats and cars. In the car industry, manufactures spy on each other. They pay for pictures of new models before they are released. So let it go people its all around use.

This is silly. as has been stated, if they wanted it to be so secret, they would not walk the public past it. If this thread had been posted with no pics, and just been called mastercraft is making a 30 ft. boat or whatever, everyone would be asking for pics. i am not saying it was right to post the pics as it is up to mastercraft to decide when they want to unveil the boat but at the end of the day it is so creating a buzz for the boat. I know if I was ready to buy a 30 ft boat I would be all over it and holding out to see how the finished product is.

Old     (psudy)      Join Date: Dec 2003       12-10-2008, 7:53 AM Reply
the only problem I see with them competing with Cobalt, is that I couldn't imagine buying a 30 ft boat that only went 45mph, as most vdrives do. If they can get the top end up, I don't see them having a problem. If they made that when I bought mine, I would have probably gone with the MC.
Old     (behindtheboat)      Join Date: Aug 2006       12-10-2008, 8:10 AM Reply
In another thread someone states that MC actually hired top engineers from Cobalt and other major "yacht" manufacturers in order to build this efficiently and quickly. So they're a success in the marine industry right now.

If they can apply resources to this, how can they not make a better economy model than the X-1?

Why would mastercraft care about making a budget boat when they can sell X-stars (~50k more than the same sized moomba) like its nothing....

I mean Moomba stays in business making money off their boats.... MC spends 5k extra in bling and sells it for 50k more.... its amazing.
Not bashing, that is seriously amazing....they are making bank and I don't think they care about trying to rope in budget buyers.

It's rough keeping up with this thread on both forums! The trademark TT veiled sarcasm vs. the humorous overt club swinging here. Often the speculation that fly's around here is FAR more scandalous than the truth. But then again how would we keep ourselves entertained otherwise?

This "leak" was intentional and they know it...

After all, what's the chance that two different people on two different websites would post almost the same (OK, identical) pictures at almost the same time.

Something about MC's strategy smells fishy (no pun intended). Hahaha
Old     (phenom_1819)      Join Date: Jan 2008       12-10-2008, 4:28 PM Reply
In all seriousness though, I think MC is right on with this decision... The boating market is so much bigger than tournament wake and ski boats, and I think there is a market for a high-end smaller express cruiser, and this boat could be nice and/or different enough to put them on the map.

Penske wanted huge growth out of Mastercraft, I've wondered how they would go about doing it in the ski/wake boat market. Looks like they're not.

In the high-end small express cruiser market, right now Cobalt owns it. IMO, the others mentioned above are not in the high-end market.

BTW, the deck hardware looks nice but hopefully they'll either move the cleats closer to the edge of the deck or incorporate some very good bow-chocks for the bow cleats, otherwise the first time that boat is tied up in rough seas it's gonna leave the gel looking like crap and rip-out that railing!!!

And just in case MC is reading... I think there's a market for a 24' CSX with a traditional bow THAT DOESN'T DROP like the current CSX's do. There is no need for a drop-bow on a center-console boat. Pro'ly would have strongly considered the 22' CSX if the bow didn't drop like it does and had more freeboard, like the 26 CSX... I spend about two-three weeks a year up in BC's Inside Passage, you have to cross straights to get there. Would love to be able to use my boat in the sound, but you can't tow behind a yacht or get stuck in big water with a boat that has a drop-nose and low freeboard. But then again, I won't be buying a boat for at least a couple years, so don't count on me buying one. ;)

Cal, the Team Talk poster and Jilly are friends. The speculation of "leaks" and so on is addressed very clearly in post Coz links to above. Just because the axiom "any publicity is good publicity" works for Paris Hilton does not mean that holds true for the extremely technically competitive Towboat industry.
