Having never seen one in the flesh but looked at lots of photos mine is the '86.

You would think that the '89 would be the obvious choice due to being the last of an awesome series but I prefer the air intake on the nose rather than under the windscreen, the WWII fighter style dash and it still has the nicer plush interior.

Anybody else?

86 and not just cus i got one. 87 they changed it and 89 has a different transmission. if i could get one my way it would be an 86 with an 89 dash, the tall dash limits visibility a lil, however if i could just get a bolster seat then id keep my 86 the way it is! one day when im outta school with a real job i might look into getting a bolster seat made. oh yeah and electronic fuel injection would be nice too.

I prefer the 81-86 exterior styling better but I think the dash from 88-89 is far better.

Because I spend most of my time in the cockpit looking at the dash, I'm a dash man. For that reason I think the 88 is my personal favorite. I think the graphics are a little better than 89.

Great boat and I love my 88!

I love the 83, everything is so simple. But it's the only one i've been in.

I have an '89 and my dad has an '87. With the different transmission I can really tell the difference when loaded, I like my '89. And the '89 has a different exhaust system that is so quiet, but I do love that deep rumble of the 351 in the '87.....sometimes. And for the seat being a little low, I threw two 2x12's side by side under the pedestal for the drivers seat. It raised it only 1 1/2" but I thought it made a big improvement. I love where my intakes are and have actually threw around the idea on making it a open bow. I am in the process of turning it into a mini SAN and think the open bow would be really unique.

86 if I could find a clean Black and Silver one, otherwise it's a 89 with the 1.23:1 trans...

Do the gear reduction trannies run a different prop to the Acme 542?

Gordons Silver edition is pure old school porn.

i like 87- 89.the modern interior is way better, imo
i dont really like the 88 windshield as much as other years. the 89s are sweet and quiet.89s look just like the 88 except for the windshield, the stripe, the bigger doghouse and single exhaust.

Anyone have any pics of the pre-87 vs post-87 dash?

What would be involved in making one of these open bow? That would be a pretty cool project.

I like the older intake but the newer dash.

Making it an open bow would be really involved and would not really give you all that much more room either.

I would like to see someone make one into a V-drive though.

82-83-84 because the stripes are painted on and can be easily removed. This allows you to do custom graphics or stripes with no gel coat to deal with. My boat had the painted stripes and I had my dealer remove them and paint it black. If I had gel I would have been stuck with that color

Yes, that Silver Edition is sweet.
The gear reduction trannys spin different props than the 1:1's.
Cutting up the front of a 2001 would probably cause more problems than its worth. A ton of work and $$ to make it. De-value boat. Not much seating room or storage and easily swamped. Maybe if you started with something from a boneyard...who'd want to take a sazall to a perfectly good 2001?

The 89's have some serious improvements.

1.23 Tranny.
SP package exhaust is quieter and is suppose to use 15% less fuel.
AME 5000 resin is lighter, stronger and still used on CC boats today.

I use an ACME 601 Prop. I can pull up four footers and still have a top end of 45+.

I think converting one to a v-drive would be really cool. Has anyone ever done this or seen one done?

Now that you mention it the boat would take on a huge amount of water if I dipped the nose. But I rarely do that. The only thing I would plan on putting up there would be one of those triangle sacks that I currently put under the bow but only fill it 3/4 of the way full. I bought the new style FCT off an '05 on e-bay and am going to look at cutting it up to put on my boat this weekend. After looking at it for hours on the internet I am 90% sure it will work out. I'll try to post some pics next week. And I will check to see what prop I run because I have no idea, all I know about it is that it is a four blade.

Got my FCT on ebay too. I had to remake the lower legs from scratch, used the feet and hinge point only. The top section stayed intact. PC'd it and it looked like new. Mine is on a 95 SNCB, not 2001.Upload

Thats what I originaly wanted and I looked into New Demension Towers for theirs but $2000 is alot of money. The one I got on e-bay is the new FCT. It came off a '05 211. I hope it works, the lower legs are the ones that are bent as a continous 7/8 of a circle. All done I hope I have lees than a grand into it.
