melting ANL fuse holder

so the first holder to melt was the type that you strip your wire back and tighten an allen head on the side for your connection point on both sides. the second was a stinger fuse holder with crimp battery style eye connector connection.
what ends up happening is where the wire actually connects to the holder it gets hot at melts the holder. the fuse never blows which it shouldn't it is correctly sized.
I know pulling over 200amps is going to create so heat but I'm interested in some options in alternative fuse holders. I've heard some people even make their own for custom installs and would love to see some pictures if anyone has any. what type of anl holder do you use? anyone else experience similar problems

Have you tried the stinger 200 amp circuit breakers? You can buy the Metra brand ones for abotu 1/3 the price.

Make sure you have the correct size wire. The only time I've seen this happen is when people try and mount tower lights with to small wire.

what are you using the ANL for? sounds like all you need to do is run bigger guage wire...

What size wire is it? 4g max is 150amp 0g 250amp

Mike, those JL amps pull a ton of current. The regulated power supply in them amplify the problem ( They still put out same power regadless of voltage input) Do the math in ohms law.

How long are your wire runs? from amplifier to fuse?

Do you have acess to amp meter?

All else fails run to your local welding shop and pick up some bigger cable.

OR fuse each amp seperately.

My last boat I had 5 amps and had 5 circuit breakers ( one for each amp)

I do have access to an amp meter and I've had it on the cable before. the most I've seen it pull was 243amps.

the run from the fuse to the distro which divides into the amp's is probably 12'. I could possibly shorten it by 3-4' but it wouldn't be as clean so I was trying to avoid that but maybe its gonna have to happen

You can find calculators on the net that tell you max current draw based on guage wire. If you run is really 12 feet 0 guage is probably not large enough. IS the cable true 0 guage....some cables claim 0 but have a ton of insualtion and are really 2 guage. If your wire will be hidden welding cable is cheap.

May be best to just run seperate power cables and fuses or breakers . Stay away from the stinger ones , we have had alot of em die .
