riding in choppy water

I may open up a can of worms here but let me ask for opinions please. What boat do you think handles best in choppy water, this would be for casual boating not for wake boarding etc.

MC X15, VLX, Tige 24ve or RZ2, Supra 24

bigger is usually better so the 24s. in mc look at x 45.

If you are looking for a good family boat in that size and that is good in the rough water check out the new X-35. It has a fridge and the you can set it up with a forward or rear facing passenger seat. It also has a deeper V like the CSX(I think) so it should ride great in rough water.

Ride in all those boats they are all expensive boats. In my limited experience riding in 20'-21' BU, MC and Moomba in rough water the Tige brand boats are the smoothest by far and bigger is usually better like previously said. The Salt series by MC should run great in the chop but never been in one. If your in Florida most of the dealers of all those brands would love to demo you. I would say we have a great group of dealers for the entire state of FL especially Dom at Forte's

Centurion Avalanche or Enzo 230, 240 are great rough water boats.

I should have mentioned that I boat on a 2800 ac lake in the mid west. So no need for salt water. I am leaning towards the Tige RZ2???

If you're in rough water an adjustable trim plate is really useful. Standard on the Tige and I think Supra and an option on others.

Throwing the X15 in there isn't even close to a fair comparison. Low freeboard & mid engine.
The VLX does pretty good with the 500 lbs of mid ballast full.
But I'd have to think that the bigger boats with the trim tabs would easily be the best in the chop.
But compare the 24' Malibus & Mastercrafts & you'd have a much closer comparison...... and nicer boats IMO.

I am an MC guy for sure but the Supra 24 has the hands down best rough water ride out of all of those choices. Very deep inside as well. The supra is hard to beat....A Centurion also rdies very well. The Avalance is big to at 22ft with 102 in beam..The Mc x45 handles it for sure but it doesn't come near the Supra or the Avy. I have no experience with Tige tho

We test drove a tige and malibu both the same size, 22's or bigger (cant remember). The tige with no ballast was great, I was surprised. The malibu with 1.5k ballast was great, and was a pig. Hands down, even the gf noticed it, the tige was great. The water was choppy as in white caps at a lake with 50+ boats being test driven, along with all the other go fast boats. Personally I dont like chop, and dont ride chop, And I do like the malibus(Contradicting I know but when we are in the water the ballast are full for boarding...,i like everything but the chop,and has to have upgraded engine for the ballast), especially the new 23 lsv, big but not too big......brandy new. But then I like the new epic 23.....3k lbs for boat+4k lbs for ballast..7k you can take that deep sea fishing, maybe all the way to the bottom of the ocean....lol

Do you ride chop as in innercoastal, inlet, bay or what? Where are you from?

Avalanche is 100" beam, not 102... and yes it can really cut through chop especially with the trim tab.

The bottom line is any deep V hull with some kind of adjustable trim is going to handle the chop better, regardless of the make.

Also, any Sanger. It was the deciding factor when I demoed boats. Tested a lot, Sanger handled rough water the best IMO

I took my Sanger out in 50+ mph winds blowing down 10 miles of lake and I felt very safe in it. I was wet from the spray though as the wind was blowing any spray from the hull straight across the boat. Running downwind the bimini was still humming and it never does normally.
If Edgar is from the midwest though maybe he doesn't have a dealer nearby.

No delaer for Sanger, Centurion, or MB Sports. The Tige I am looking at has 900lbs of ballast so I am thinking that would help also.

ive been in an x star, x30, x2, x 45, and sanger v210, and i'd have to say the x 45 handled the best in chop.......(all the boats were in choppy water)
