Opinion between '07 X2 and '06 Malibu VLX

Looking for some opinions/help. I'm looking at a 2007 Mastercraft X2 with about 80hrs on it and a 2006 Malibu VLX with about 30hrs. They are both in the same price range ($56k canadian) without trailers. I know both boats are great for wakeboarding but I would like to get into wakesurfing - any opinions on both boats for that? I've never wakesurfed before, so not sure. How about the boats/price/hours themself. I'm not sure about one being older but with fewer hours and the other newer with more hours, what effects resale value more?

I have a 06 VLX with power wedge and to be honest struggle with the surf wake. If you go to themalibucrew.com you can find lots of pics and threads of VLX's with good surf wakes so I know others are getting good results. My boat appears to be possessed by evil spirits. Its a day to day process and the exact same setup that worked one day creates pure surf mush the next. I have seen the x2 surf wake from the boat but never surf'd it. Its not as tall but with a longer pocket.

The VLX will produce a great surf wake on either the port or starboard. Once of the best waves I've seen it a while was with all ballast filled, except for the starboard side, wedge on 9 and 8 adults sitting on the port side from front to back.

I have a 06 VLX, power wedge all the way down, full ballast front and middle with full ballast on whatever side the surfer is on, + a plumbed in 600lbs vdrive sac.

We have never had a problem getting a nice wave, it is sweet on both sides as well with the starboard side being a little steeper and shorter.

we surf an X2, and it has a great wake for both sides. We are surfing 15ft back from the platform no problem. Go drive both, but the X2 handles like a dream.

Do you drive a car to work? If so, do you wear a crash helmet and 4 point harness?

cant go wrong with either.. the biggest difference is the boat length... do you want a 20' or a 22' boat ?

btw, my nod goes to the x-2...it will throw a huge wake but it takes a lot of weight to do it... also it is the funnest boat to drive and one of the best layouts i have seen hands down.. mc has it going on..

Does the X-2 drive better than the X-Star or X-45? Because my VLX will drive circles around those two boats!!!

Larry depends on which motor you have?? Of course a 310 motor is going to be slower than a 400, right?

Why are you looking to speed race? These kind of boats are not ment for that, if a person is intrested in speed racing they should look to an I/O race boat

I mean it will drive and handle much, much, much better!

I like the X-2 a lot, and it has a great wake and a great layout - tons of room for a smaller boat...but I'm a Malibu owner so I have to give the nod to the Bu. Good luck.

I really like the VLX and it's wake, just seems like the perfect wake. I like it because it is basically a median between the extremes of MC and CC. It ca nb rampy, it can be steep, it's not a really wide wake, or narrow. I haven't rode behind a X2 but I am this saterday

For surfing get the VLX. It has a great surf wake all around. I would disagree w/ larry however that a VLX handles and drives better then the X-2. Especially when weigted heavily or pounding through a double up.

I dont wear a helmet in the car ride to work but I do wear the factory supplied restraints. I guess you've never seen someone nose in, take a header @ the boat and almost hit their face on the swimdeck huh? I don't see the point in not wearing a vest, to each his own.

I agree with Scott, when you drown its easier to find the body floating in a life vest than it is dragging the bottom with a meat hook for days on end.
Wear a vest! Things can happen just too quick.

x-2 is tiny

nick, what do you mean tiny. trust me it has more room including storage than any 21-22ft boat out on the market.

both are very nice boats, just see what makes you feel more comfy.

Yeah, i would not describe the X2 as Tiny. I felt there was as much room in it as the VLX. I sat up front in the bow like the image above with another guy facing the back of the boat and there was no uncomfortable touching

Its unbelievable to me that you would have 4 kids under 12 in your boat without lifejackets on, much less publish it. Wow.

1st of all Ranger Rick the law is 6 years of age and under must have a life jacket on while the boat is underway. The boy on the left is the only one under 6 and we were not moving, in fact we were anchored watching the Space Shuttle take off. All of the kids are great swimmers as well. However, when we were moving the youngest had a life jacket on.

My sincere apologies on the age. I grew up in a state where the age was 12. I "assumed" every state had an age of 12.

That cartwheel jackalope you talked about is a standard tantrum and any x1/x2/xstar washes out on the opPosite side that you cut on. You do have a Mastercraft X something, so you should know this.

Once again, I do feel bad for my statement now knowing the rules in your state.

I don't have trouble with wake wash unless the boat is unevenly weighted.

Mastercraft is a great company yes... Malibu just as good....

The X-2's rear storage is worthless except for extra lifejackets... the bow would be worthless but its forked so you can fit 4 toddlers instead of 3, awesome.... the main piece of the boat is nice... feels way bigger than the rest of the boat.... but if you have friends, or kids with friends I would for sure go with the malibu

Actually, I never new the supra was a dressed up mmobius, as such have steered away and going with A class! NU-Wouldnt you agree-tell the truth?

If that's what I wanted that's what I would have bought. I got exactly what I wanted and have no regrets. You'll come over from the dark side one of these days, you've obviously never set foot in a malibu.
