So im looking into buying a boat and know the guys in this forum are usually the most mature and intelligent than any of the other forums. So heres my question. We mostly wakeskate and wakeboard but more wakeskating than anything else. I want something thats reliable, quality, and gets decent gas mileage. I dont really care too much if it has a ballast although i would prefer one. I want a good wake not the best wake but something that i can go w2w on and wont break the bank. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

all tiges from 03 and up have the convex v hull they have been proven to have the best fuel economy in the inboard market.i have a 03 22v with 1200lbs ballast avg. 6 people in boat and avg. 4 gallons/hr wakeboarding/wakesurfing check boattest.com for the info they have it there. plus with taps you can adj. wake fast and on the fly. a nice 03/04 20v or 22I or 21I would fit your needs well and not "break the bank" good luck in your search.

If you can, i would try to find one of the Toyota epics. They had a 4.0 liter 300 hp Lexus engine in them that did very well on gas.

thanks for the input everyone. To answer Ryans question id be happy to spend up to 25k and would consider up to 30k. The cheaper the better though.

If you're only wakeskating, get an older direct drive ski boat with efi. Most models had fuel injection after '95. You can spend under 15k, get perfect pass and have a ton extra for gas. My old Prostar 190 had 375hp and got SOOO much better gas mileage than my current Supra. Check out the dry weight. The lighter the boat, the less drag, the lower rpm's you'll have to rev. Good luck. Wakeskating is definitely a smart way to go to have fun on the water without so much ballast. As Charley said, Malibu's get great gas mileage. My friend's sunsetter goes forever without fueling.

I think the Sanger v-210 is pretty good on GPH. It doesn't take a lot of weight to make a big wake and you can find them from 17-35 depending on year and options. Most the people on this board have a lot good to say about them.

ive got a 1987 dixie, with weight it throws a decent wake and its a 4 cylinder pretty easy on the gas when you compare to bigger boats

goride what ever boat is narrower and lighter will give you better mileage. After that a newer engine is more efficient than an older one. It particular the closed loop engine management systems give the best potential for good mileage at part throttle. Lighter and narrower mean less drag so you use less gas.

one thing to consider on any model is prop! You might sacrifice hole shot some for better mileage. My 04 Outback had stock 13x13 3 blade (better for slalom that wake).. it towed fine for wakeboarding... but, I jacked it up on a stump and got a 13x11 cup OJ XMP.. better hole shot, higher RPM, less top end.... SO, think about that when you buy one... talk to prop mfg like ACME or OJ and see what options exist for your boat. You might spend $400 on a good prop, then have a spare and get better fuel mileage... Also, find a few friends who don't have a boat but will chip in.. NONE of them get GOOD mileage towing...

Sanger V210 or Sanger DLX, which is basically the same as V210 but a direct drive. I know of a 97 DLX with Black Scorpion fuel injected 350, tower, board racks, bimini and small stereo system in decent shape in NorCal for about 11k. These boats are light and narrow and do very well on fuel, and can produce big wakes without alot of weight. The same goes for a Nauty SuperSport or older 2001, but I would say the Sanger has a better wake skate wake...

Kevin...GM merc cruiser 335 5.7L...125 hours...immaculate condition...we just never use it. I am involved in our wakeboard club here and ride with everyone else. I have been riding for a month already and the boat isn't out of the garage yet. Great boat though...dependable and great wake. I will take some pics this weekend and do an official ad for it. I e-mailed goride with all the details (Message edited by rnopr8 on April 14, 2008) (Message edited by rnopr8 on April 14, 2008)

A PWC is by far the most efficient skate tow boat. I have think we will be using our PWC a lot more for pulling skates this year the way gas prices are going. +1 on Toyota EPIC if fuel efficiency is main game for a wake/skate boat. (Message edited by bmartin on April 15, 2008)

Toyota Epic. I'm just hoping I didn't make a mistake by selling mine earlier this year!!! Could not have asked for a better boat, never had any significant problems. Plenty of power, very well built, hold their value well (mine effectively depreciated about $500/year over the 4 years I owned it!), a nice wake, and a GREAT community. Typically burned around 3-4 gph. http://www.epicmarine.com (Message edited by phenom_1819 on April 15, 2008)

I use to have a 3 seat yamaha xlt1200 and it held 18 gallons and we could ride from 8am to 8pm non-stop nothing but pulling. Only problem now is I have a daughter and fiance so a PWC wont cut it anymore for them.

Sangers are the lightest by far. Tige should be efficient at slower speeds but they weigh a lot. I don't know the others well enough

The MB has to be horrible on gas. Don't they use 2000lbs of built in ballast? I am going to completely guess here but here goes. From best to worst V210 Tige ProV V215 MB Maybe the ProV and V215 could be switched. This is strictly a guess though so I may be completely wrong.

i was thinking the v210 too. Basically i just want something that will make a good wake without TONS of weight and is economically feasible.

thats why you need a tige. tiges weigh more yes but the hull design is what makes them so good. they run on a delta pad at speed to reduce drag. no inboard compares to a tige in fuel consumption.sanger makes a good boat but its fuel economy is not as good as a tige.

Tiges don't require any ballast at all. They have the taps system.

Just think of it this way. A tige works with the water and not against it= better gas mileage. To be in that price range you would need a few years on the boat but Tige's have the same hull design and taps plate for a few yrs. now.

OMG, this thread has gone to crap... Tige's with no ballast needed. Yes, Tige does have a ballast as an option but the basic Tige boat (24Ve and RZ2) without ballast willl give you about a 20-24 inch lip on the wake. Adding a ballast system will only increase the size of it and the lip. There are quite a few Tige members that do have ballast systems in their boat and would suggest that you do not get the ballast system the Tige uses. The third party auto-fill ballast systems provide more weight than the optional 900#. .02

One more thing, I was getting about 5.5 gph on the 24Ve and the RZ2 that I have gets about 6 gph. Adding weight to the boat will decrease these numbers but that would also decrease with any other brand of boat.

Goride, not just the 89. The 2001 hull was made from 82 to 89. I had an 87 and for under 10k it is tough to beat the wake.

All of those hulls are very close to the same. With the DLX being a little longer and a little wider. The DX and DXII are closed bow and have very little room, but will throw a great wake when weighted with around 1k in ballast but you'll be trippin over sacks. The DLX is open bow, and same hull as V210 but direct drive.

The nice thing about an DD and an open bow is that you can move people up front to keep the bow down at very low speeds. That means you can tow a small child with a clean wake at speeds that don't hurt when they fall. There is no scare factor at 12 mph. That's something most people don't think of. Oh, and the Elmo toys last longer with a coat of 303 if they're not chewed on.

yes all the 03 and up have the convex v hull. they make a very nice wake without ballast and even better with ballast. i do prefer the marine power engine over the mercruiser but they are fine with the merc. every model comes with the convex v and taps so its up to your budget and what is avalib. in your area on wich one you go with. visit tigeowners.com on some info on specific models you might have questions on. 2001 will throw a nice wake but room will be an issue as there is not a spare inch in the boat. at 20k a 03 or newer tige will be tough maybe the switch v mentioned early in this post but if you could step up into the middle 20's you should be good. just keep looking you will find a boat thats right for you and your family. good luck!

my buds 03 210 uses twice as much gas as my 03 tige 22v. he has 200lbs more ballast than i do.but im sure if i added another 200lbs my fuel economy would still blow his away.

I own both a 2001 & a Sanger V210. The 2001 is better on gas but not by a whole heap. The V210's wake is a lot more user friendly and can be built bigger. If you can stretch to a V210 it is undoubtedly better than the 2001 but the 2001 is still a great boat, just not as comfortable or family friendly as the v drives & the wake is on the steep side. The V210 can have a very nice wake when weighted up right, This photo is from our boyz trip; (I am 6ft 200 pounds & ride @80ft & 23mph for reference) we were carrying about 2000pounds of ballast, over about 30 sets we averaged 2.8gallons per set. Money well spent IMO
