guide pole covers

Any recommendations on some good guide pole covers? The boat I'm looking on has just the plastic ones but they are cracked. Do the padded ones you get fit over the top of the plastic or do you take the plastic off and put the pads on?
on edit: It's a mastercraft...if that matters. Where can I order them online?

Go to Home Depot. Get some 3" PVC pipe. Then put the pads on over the top. I also got the end caps for the top. ... That's what the trailer places used. I paid $10, for two new guides. And enough left over for one more, if either breaks.

you can get new ones from mastercraft for $30 I believe. Look in the proshop at mastercraft.com. They slide over the plastic.

They're also good at putting white paint on your black rub rail when putting the boat on the trailer. I hope you have a stainless rub rail.....

overtons.com has some pretty cheap. all black padding. they work better then the plastic

Thanks for the plug Todd! The printing on all of our guidepole covers and transom pads is Epoxy ink. WILL NOT rub off, and is waterproof.

Check out the wicked wakes ones. I saw them in person and the material is way thicker than most, doesn't fade and are waterproof, so when you pull the trailer out they are dry in a couple seconds once the water rolls off. Slick product for something that seems so basic.
I will be getting some once my current set I bought elsewhere becomes faded and torn like the original factory ones did in a couple years.

I became tired of the padded covers getting torn up after each season. Much like Robb did, I bought some 3" PVC at Home Depot and used plumbers glue to glue some 3" caps on the top. I spray painted the caps and top portion of the PVC black. Then I bought some cheap black carpet ($7 a roll) and wrapped it around the PVC and glued it with Gorilla Glue.

Now I have sturdy guide poll covers that actually roll when the rub rail of my boat runs into them (because they're 3" diameter polls) and they do not get torn up like my old guide poll covers did. The whole thing cost me around $18 and I still have carpet left over should I ever need to redu them down the road. However, I've been using them for two seasons now and haven't had any issues.
