For some reason a copy of March WaterSki magazine showed up in my mail box. On page 46 there is a pic of a rider on a small board. Her front foot is in a binding facing forward and back foot is in a strap facing out.
Does anyone know what this board is and what its purpose is?

That, my friend, would be a trick ski.

Like it or not, that's part of this sport's roots.

Mikker still throws line overs on his wakeboard. I've also seen Ruck trick ski!

You're one of the few Sean. I put a ski (Slalom) on about six months ago for the first time in probably 4 years.

Trick skiing btw is a lot harder than it looks.

I used to trick ski a lot, along with various other activities (slalom, barefoot, etc) and that eventually led to wakeboarding. I think my trick skiing experience helped get me going on the wakeboard with turns and spins and stuff. Wakeboarding is a lot more fun btw.

trick skiing is the equivalent of standing in the shower on a bar of soap with the hot tap on full trying to dodge the spray, in other words... its hard
