i use a skateboard helmet for sliders, and it seems lots more comfy because of the foam, but the only problem with that is the foam holds water after i get it wet, then drips down my face while I'm riding. that's probably the only reason I'd consider getting a proper watersports helmet. whether or not a helmet will help protect you from normal on water stacks is a bit controvertial - there's a lot of different opinions. I personally don't think it will make a huge difference to anything but your confidence. If wearing a helmet is what you need to do to push yourself harder or to try a new trick, then go for it!
