I recently came across a 1990 Prostar with a 5.7 GM engine. Is this unusual? All the ones I have seen in boattrader have been Ford engines. Also, what carburetor should this engine have? Thanks, Neal

It must have been upgraded by someone. In the 90 the only motor I've ever seen is the 351 indmar... The 90 mostly come with a Holley 4 barrel carb...

The Indmar engine is a GM engine.

BBeach is right. I've had an 89 MC (Ford)and own a 2K MC (Chevy). Both are "Indmar" Getting back to Neil's post, I agree someone upgraded it, or it is a one of kind proto. Neil, Did you see the boat? If it was just a listing, owner maybe thinks it's a Chebbey.

Are you sure Brad?
It was a Chevy 350 block in the MC's and the Ford 351 in the CC's.
I had an 86' CC and my bud had an 88' MC back in tha day.

Anyway, definately an upgrade with the 5.7 ltr - good thing for a wake boat.

Indmar switched to Chevy blocks in '93 or'94. CC which is PCM marinized switched to chevy in 2002,

Tom,
PCM made Chevy engines before 2002. They were options on the CC's. For example the PCM Apex MPI 320 HP and the PCM Python 430 HP MPI big block that was available in 2001. I do not know the exact year they started using Chevy's........

Yes I saw the boat. It is most definetly a GM 5.7 with the Holley removed and a piece of junk Thermoquad installed. It's a 1990 prostar 190 limited edition. He is selling it for half to price of book because the interior is rough and trailer needs painting. He is also recently divorced. Found it in the newspaper. Neal

Wakeguru: I'm sure that the 88-90 prostars came stock with the 351 FORD block, marinized by Indmar, and I'm also sure that after 94 MC went with a GM block. MC still uses the GM block today, whether it be the 350 or the 6 liter Cadillac engine or the 8.1 GM block.

I don't know what CC used in those days.
