Okay folks, here's the deal. People are planning on making this a multi-weekend thing. Basically it comes down like this:

WSSR May 22-23 THE MAIN EVENT!!
More info. available soon!

WSPSR April 17-18
Smaller in scale, hang out, ride, meet some new friends, have fun!!! Camping arrangements should be made individually. Be sure to make them early.

I hope to see everyone at both events!!!

I think you should let us all know which lake.

I think its San Antonio

You should actually call that So Cal spring ride
Old     (stephan)      Join Date: Nov 2002       03-03-2004, 1:45 PM Reply
Wow don't I certainly suck! Yes it's at Lake San Antonio.

Why so-cal spring ride? Liveing here we call it central CA. Plus I believe them both to be on the west side...

How about a different lake? A place that will actually have good water to ride. Just a thought.

I'm with Arun. I love going to these things and meeting everyone but it would be so much better if we could have some good riding conditions.

or maybe something that is not a 6 hour drive for nor cal compared to a 2 hour drive for so cal

Nasty, nasty, nasty.
How about next time you guys plan it.

Wow, where's the wakeboarding love in this post?

is that the lake that's like 3 feet deep?
Old     (poon)      Join Date: Dec 2001       03-03-2004, 2:13 PM Reply
BoobsAREcool: I was only giving a suggestion, not trying to be nasty at all. Sorry if I came off that way. In all honesty though San Antonio was horrible the last time WSSR was there. Just thought it would be cool if people could actually wakeboard at a wakeboard event rather then just drinking the whole time because the water is so crappy.

J-Rod: Your thinking of Buena Vista.
Old    iewc            03-03-2004, 2:20 PM Reply
Maybe i should jump in here since i was part of the planning for the original WSSR at Lake San Antonio and have scouted loctaions for others. There really isnt a whole lot of choices that are in the middle of the state that would 1) would allow an event like this 2) would be good for riding 3)Would be warm enough 4)Affordable. I think San Anotnio is one of the better choices, despite the drive and coniditions. I guess your drive depends on where you live. I live in So Cal, about 35 miles east of L.A. and its bout a 4 1/2 hr trip for me to get to S.A. I havent ever driven to S.A. from nor Cal but I remember people saying it was about 5 to 5 1/2 hours or so. (Both of these estimates are with boats). If people are coming from San diego its an another hour to hour and a half for them i think, the same as if you are coming from San francisco or another part of the Bay Area i assume.
Water. I got up and rode a couple of good sets in the morning and in the eveneing during the 1st WSSR. During the day the lake got kinda blown out, or overused, but i think there was also a fishing tournemant going on that weekend which added a few extra boats racing around the lake.
Benefits. The folks at San Antonio were great, they appreciated having us. they had places to store the boat in the water overnight. They had both cabins and campsights. They didnt seem to mind us making a little extra noise, and even let us use their confrence area for a band/BBQ and unofficial party location.
I am sure if anyone has any suggestions on a lake that is equidistant from Nor and So cal, the current organizers will listen. That being said, unless there are a few hidden lakes, or one under construction im not awre of to many other options.
I dont mean to come across as an ass just trying to defend the choie of lakes and maybe help people understand why they choose San Antonio.

San Antonio is a good 6+ hours from San Diego, probably more on a Friday night with LA traffic to worry about. According to MapQuest it's about 250 miles from Sacramento to the lake, and about 346 miles from San Diego. Looks to be much closer to NorCal than parts of SoCal.

I'm in no matter what, I would just prefer to ride more during the day if I have to drive 4 hrs. I'd rather drive an additional hr to the Delta and ride all day, whenever I felt like riding.

We could make it to the May trip (but not the April trip). Is this the lake fairly close to Lake Nacimiento? I have heard great things about both.
Old     (dakid)      Join Date: Feb 2001       03-03-2004, 2:52 PM Reply
By the way, Lake San Antonio's only 2 hours from San Jose. So, if you're coming from Sacramento (DOUBLEUP!), it's 2 hours from Sac to San Jo. Then, another 2 hours from San Jo to San Anton. Need me to add it up for you?
Old     (stephan)      Join Date: Nov 2002       03-03-2004, 2:56 PM Reply
Arun, I had a great time last WSSR at San Antonio. What was wrong, I got good water most of the day.

Bill, IEWC, thanks for coming to the defense.

Next time as opposed to criticism, come with suggestions for alternatives. It's supposed to be a fun event, April's date is going to very low key, basically a cance to meet new folks and to have fun. An unofficial gathering of sorts. Just chill out, show up and have a good time. May will be a little more organized, so I've heard.

San Antonio is only 2 1/2 hours down US101 from San Jose.

If anyone wants to tube, I might have room on my boat.

It took me 4 1/2 hours to get to naci from fremont last summer, which is only 20 min from san jose. Are you doing 100 the whole way to get there in 2 hours. I was doing 70 towing. maybe you could get there in 2 hours at 3 am on sunday morning

Either way, join us for some fun! At the first WSSR @ San Antonio, some folks drove down from Washington. I rode with them and they were just stoked to be there...

Rene, can I tube?

Second question, why are you planning the actual event on Memorial Day weekend??? I know SA and it's going to be a freakin ZOOOOOOOO on MD weekend!

I may get killed for this but, ever thought about some where around the Fresno area? I know of several lakes with campgrounds and day use areas, with good water most of the time. I'd be glad to help if it means spreadin the stoke. Just throwing it out there, someone contact me if they think it may work.

Brett, not a bad idea but the idea is to make it as central as possible for all CA to attend.

Actually Fresno is not much closer than Lake San Antonio. At least for the So-Cal people. Those of us in the valley get a little extra but no worries.

Fresno is...

180 miles from Sacramento
150 miles from San Jose
340 miles from San Diego
260 miles from the YL
220 miles from LA

Lake San Antonio is...

225 miles from LA
252 miles from Sacramento
140 miles from San Jose
346 miles from San Diego
270 miles from the YL

Is there any Hotel/Motel in the area? I want a shower, a TV, and a crapper. I hate to camp.

Don't talk crap, that picture is of my dad back in '77.

If you want to get a hotel you'd probably want to stay at Nacimiento which is 20 minutes south of San Antonio.

Oh, that really isn't my dad, but pretty close to what he was sportin'.

Mik not sure what is going to happen this year. I just hope that Bill wouldn't mind taking a stragler along with him again if he decides to go. I am a good 3rd,can cook gourmet camping meals, and change trailer tires with lightning speed. What's your plan Bill?

It's funny. People do not want to make the incredible effort to locate and fully research an appropriate location for an event such as this...

but they are totally willing to make an incredible effort to complain, discredit and/or negate all the efforts by others that took on the burden in the first place.

I just wish I could go no matter where WSSR is going to be held....but then again, I should be snowboarding/skiing in Argentina by then :-)

I know you all will have a great time...

We are working on making it up for our first WSSR. Since my main Canyon Lake crew member just had a new born he probably won't make it. So we will probably be looking for a couple people to fill out the crew. Let me know if interested. We would probably try to leave early afternoon Friday and come back on Monday morning. That way we don't miss anything. Let me know, I have a Suburban so we all could ride up together.

Cheers
