I am in the middle of a re-upholstery project for a 91 Barefoot Nautique. I really want to change the sun deck to something to add the red and black vinyl that is going to be in the interior of the boat. I also want to get rid of the stock pleats that are on the original sun deck cover, but to do that I want to break it up so it's not one massive piece of vinyl.

Here's a blank "canvas" of what I am dealing with (I photoshopped the pleats out of the picture on the deck)

Here are some designs I have come up with so far. Nothing that I am a huge fan of so far.

I am avoiding looking to modern. There's a lot of ideas I see on new boats I like, but I don't want to be trying too hard to make a 1991 look like a 2011.

Does anyone have any ideas to try out? I can do my best to convert your suggestions into an example in photoshop, or you can try to MSPaint something on that blank shot of the deck.

Kinda reminds me of an old Liberator with those stripes. Kinda cool. I prefer the last picture. The first I thought was cool initially but I think it looks too new age or futuristic.

I think each of these would look nice in a suitable color scheme...

I have the same boat and have been thinking about carpeting the hatch. Anybody see such a thing or any reason it would be a bad idea? My thoughts were I didn't have to worry about board fins or my foil ripping the carpet. Carpet would also provide lots of grip for walking to the back platform.

black vinyl is HOT in the sun, I actually kinda like your first photo just plain one piece then it won't have stitch holes to begin tearing and let water inside, I would get rid of those two cleatson back and pull out the pylon.
