Hey guys.. i've read here and there that when learning raleys it can be good to try on a wakeskate first so that you get the feel of doing one without the faceplant crash if you don't bring your board down in time. But what about learning any other inverts?

I have a huge mental block on attempting inverts.. i've watched tons of video, used a handle on a trampoline, everything.. so I thought about trying say a backroll on a wakeskate first just to get the feel of it? Not sure where the skate would fly on a backroll attempt but don't want to hit my head on it on the way down.

What are your guys' thoughts.. good or bad idea?

You want to use a wakeskate on raleys but not inverts. If you want to learn a backroll then learn the edge and rotation by doing a one wake backroll at a slow speed. Once you get comfortable with doing the trick and can spot your landing each time go ahead and bump the speed up and go for a wake to wake. You don't really need to learn an invert by just trying to go wake to wake at full speed, this is how you can get hurt. Start slow, make sure you understand the fundamentals of the trick, and gain some experience, then take it w2w and you'll avoid a lot of pain.

Not just bad, horrible idea.

The thing is, what goes up, must come down, and often times, that thing comes back down on top of you. That'll hurt a hell of a lot more than a normal backroll fall.

slow the boat down to 16 mph, and pull the rope in to about 50 ft.

Doing air rolls really got me past my mental block. If you are regular footed, slow the boat down to 18 and cut out on the left side of the boat. Edge really hard and throw the roll. Even if you don't land it, it will get you past the fear.
