So glad that I don't have to deal with stupid things like that around here. Kids having fun, that's all it was. Cops around here would probably just tell us we are stupid and laugh at us.

Thats so stupid. Ive done **** like that i bunch of times. I would maybe expect a warning, or get kicked off the property yada yada, but they put me in cuffs and id be upset. they were not being out of control, resisting, or anything. no need for that

Sounds like they were just cited and not arrested. We used to get in trouble all the time for doing that in the snow with sleds, snowboards and skis

I agree, totally stupid and embarrassing for the cops. I understand that the police may need to address the situation. It would be easy to just run them off or give them a citation if they felt it necessary (which I wouldn't). But the way they just grabbed the kid and cuffed him immediately just looked like a power trip to me. They should have tased him instead!! lol

I think that's what happened, the cops busted them cause they were in their spot. As soon as they were gone the police came out in the cop car and did the same thing!

Yup Clayton, its slowly becoming a "police state" because the general public cannot use common sense. Did you know here in San Jose if you have a crime problem in your neighborhood its ILLEGAL to put up anything potentially harmful like barbed wire? LAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Both the wakeboarder and the driver were arrested on charges of 'clinging to a vehicle,' according to the Franklin Police Department. The driver was also cited for reckless driving."

I wonder what the cops would have done had they been winching there.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, real cops come out at night. The cops out during the day are nothing more than revenue generators with an ego. What I don't understand is what fuels the ego. What have these day time ticket writers accomplished with their lives? How much effort did they have to put into school to reach the position they are in? I know people who are cops. I had friends in high school that are now cops. To know that some of these people barely graduated highschool, have 0 college credits, and are now cops judging me and everyone else blows my mind. Sorry, but I have 0 respect for most cops. I've been in the same situation as these kids and know what it's like. I have been harassed to no end by them. I lived in a small town and my truck stood out in high school. They would follow me around just waiting for me to do something. I had them show up to my house with warrants for my arrest for things I wasn't even involved in. I never had a single charge stick other than a couple of speeding tickets. The past is the past though and I'm the one laughing now. They are still in that small town doing nothing with themselves. I'm exactly where I want to be doing what I want to do. F the police, let the kids be kids.

Gene, I feel you man. I didn't mean to rant like that but I get so freaking frustrated reading stories like this once a week. This time it's kids being arrested for nothing, last week it was a guy who's facing 5 years in jail after an unmarked cop car cut him off and pulled a gun on him for speeding on a motorcycle, you always hear about someone getting tazed for no real reason. It's always something with these idiot cops who are incapable of judging a situation. They like to throw their weight around and as soon as you speak up for yourself you get nailed with 60k volts and wake up in a jail cell with smoke coming out of your hair and ears as they are laughing at you. I'm not saying all cops are bad, some are almost as cool as me.

Funny how some folks are quick to judge law enforcement. Look at the other side of the coin. First, do I think it was wrong for the police to arrest them? Hard to say as I was not there for the whole situation. I do believe it was a bit excessive, but again, I was not there to witness the situation.

CoryD- If this truly was a USSA, you would be able to post your "opinion". Think about it.

Done ranting. Off to prep the boat for a quick set this afternoon.

Ok obviously you all just hate the man.....................Raggig on kids fun right???

Did you see all the people around to the right? Did you happen to see the cops right next to them? The idea of police work is to prevent things, not to just respond. That truck spinning out of control puts numerous peoples lives at risk for no apparent reason. Is it w what if? you bet but that situation is one that should be avoided. While I am all for having fun and doing crazy shiat, there is a time and place nd that for sure wasn't it. Put that instance on a back country road with no people and totally different situation........... Right in the middle of town next to the police and people of the community is reckless to say the least.

I will always have a job because there will always be a select few people who don't think before they act and have no respect for others. You guys act like the cop threw the kid down at gun point and beat his arse. He walked up to the kid, grabbed him and told him to put the wakeboard down most likely andthen cuffed him. Though it was handled well. Same with the kid in the truck. At the very least here they would have got cited, at the most taken to jail and charged with a state crime. My choice on which.
Old     (pnichols)      Join Date: Jan 2007       05-09-2010, 12:02 PM Reply
^^^or they could have asked the kids to take it somewhere else, or get cited. Handcuffing those kids wasn't necessary. I will agree that they probably could have found a better area to skate at.

^^^ how do we know the police didn't already warn them first? We don't see video of the whole day do we? So what if they were warned first and disregarded the warning............ now this segment of the video was the outcome? Would cuff still not be appropriate? People are so quick to judge with bits and pieces of stories. Video isn't reliable for whole stories pertaining to small segments caught on tape. I'll try and get you some entertaining examples.

I can't believe people forget whats its like to be young. I know I did things when I was younger that I would be in trouble for now. When we grow up we tend to forget about being young and making the best of a situation. They should have forgot the car and used a winch!

Relax, I just posted that video to show that there was no warning. Just because you wear a badge, doesn't give you the right to treat people how ever you want to. I have met some cops that are great people, on and off the job, but there's plenty of them out there that get on these power trips, and take things too far.

Just another example. It's tools like this guy that should never be able to wear a badge.

I think it needs to be pointed out that these guys are probably a little taxed right now. Even if you don't pay attention to the news you should still be aware of the events that are going on in this area. The way that E.M.S. PD and Fire Rescue operates changes dramatically. Some of these guys probably haven't ate or slept much for the last 24 hours plus on top of increased call volumes. I don't care who you are, those two factors alone will change anyones attitude so don't point fingers. More importantly, I have watched the video twice and I still don't see a power trip. Besides if they didn't stop them and they got seriously mangled around who knows what under that water the cops would have been liable and an ambulance would never make it there in time to provide proper treatment.

Come on guys these less intelligent individuals drove out of their way to go into a disaster area and break the law what did you expect?

Lets all be honest here for a second, was what they were doing illegal? Yes....
Did they understand the risks involved in what they were doing? Yes...
Every time we strap on our boards or pull out our skates we are taking our lives into our own hands, even when we are not doing anything illegal. There are more unseen obstacles and hazards in any lake or river than were in that parking lot, how many of us have cased it in what seemed to be thirty foot deep water only to find ourselves standing out of the water up to our knees on a submerged log or sand bar? I know I have multiple times, the truth is I am not irritated that they got arrested for doing what they love, more power to em, I am irritated bhy the fact that my safety and judgement is seemingly not good enough for people. Cops are not the ones on the power trip, they are doing their job as they are directed to do it. The problem is people who think they know what is best for everyone else, yes they are trying to protect people but often times all they see is dollar signs and not the real issues. Thats why it is important to know the local laws and to fight against unfair ordanaces that threaten our lifestyle. (and yes unfair ordanances can be repealed it happened last summer on the willamete river above the falls, basically an ordincace was passed that would have made it illegal to have "wake enhancing devices" on boats on a very large section of the river, but the ordinance was fought and repealed)

To all those out there who think I'm crazy.... Let me live my life in the manner I see fit, I don't want a cushy office chair, or a lazy boy recliner. I want to live fast and on the edge of danger, If I die because of it, so be it. That is something I have learned to live with and accept. I am taking my life into my own hands not yours, leave me alone.

All depends on the state and dept policy.

Some departments allow the use of a taser for exactly that. The kid is obviously not following directions and he was being placed into custody for a traffic offense at the time he decided to not sign the ticket. I don't know what their dept policy is, but in some jurisdiction a refusal to sign the ticket means they have to be arrested and charged. It's also in a construction zone so some jurisdictions have separate policies regarding that. A Taser is warranted in most departments for exactly this situation. Does it seem a little harsh for speeding offense....yes but it didn't have to be used. Would you rather the officer threw him to the ground and fought in the middle of a highway and either one of them got pushed into traffic while he attempted to put cuffs on the driver? He refused to follow directions and being tased was the outcome of his choices, not a rogue, crazed lunatic officer. The officer asked the driver to get out of the car politely, went and put his books down due to the fact he was going to physically arrest the driver at which time the driver became agitated and refused to follow commands. Again the driver did not comply and refused to be taken into custody for his offense because he didn't like the fact he was stopped.

Again what is wrong with that situation? NOTHING! The reason it went the way it did was because the driver acted the way he did. He didn't like getting pimped for speeding. THE END! And most people don't. Hell I have been stopped and cited and didn't like it one bit, however I was speeding.

And Paul I am relaxed just offerng the perspective from the other side.........the non cop hater side.

^^^are you for real.....I hope your not.

Under Utah law, when a motorist refuses to sign a ticket, a police officer can do things the easy way, or the hard way. He can make an arrest and jail the offender, or he can simply write "refused to sign" on the dotted line. Either way, the motorist has to pay the fine or show up in court to fight the ticket. Either way, justice will be served.

Did you listen to the end of the video, where the cop lies about what happened to the other cop.
