So guys i am making the jump! i found a very reasonable price on an A22 an am going to pick it up soon.. but before i jump any issues should be aware of? a big concern is that my sister and i both every now and then like to hop out on one ski and mess around.. the guy said there is no where to tie up a skier except on the tower or the rail across the swim platform... anyone had any experience with this? the boat has 175 hrs and some very minor scratches in interior and exterior.. and help would b appreciated
Unless your sister is an advanced skier, she will be fine pulling her from the rear grab bar hook that is above the swim platform and below the rubrail (shown in the attached photo). The wake will be larger than what you get with a direct drive, but it's not like she'll be hitting a slammed wb wake on skis.
Good luck with that. Pulling from such a low point on the boat will guarantee the rope dragging in the wake. You would be better off pulling from the tower.
You'll be just fine pulling from the handle. On the 2009's and 2010's the tow handle is above the rub rail unlike chatt's which is below. So your gaining a good 10 inches of heighth as well. If you really want a pylon they are now an option. I would call your local Axis dealer and find out if you would need extra bracing to add the ski pylon.
LR3 - a ski pylon is an option. Most people who buy an Axis don't get it.
Michael, how do you know that a ski rope is guaranteed to drag in the wake? Have you skied behind an A22?
Here's a guy slaloming behind an A22. He's using a pylon, and not the rear attachment point, but I still don't think that the rope would drag. There's not much of a wake.
If the wake is similar to the newer Malibu VLX (which I think it is) it is definitely ski-able. I towed a couple people last week at 32-34 MPH with my '11 VLX and it was not bouncing them too bad. Infact the person I towed has a MC X-15 and the VLX wake was much more flat than the X-15. Get some bow weight to help level off the boat.
Definitely not as good as a direct drive, but skia-able enough to have someone rip it up.
Plug and Play system is an option as well. Almost every dealer orders them with it tho. You can run the 900 lb. bow sack and most people are running the 750's in the rear. if you want to go to the 1100's you'll have to brace the sidewalls of the engine compartment and you'll definitely want to re-prop the boat.
well i just got off the phone with the seller no plug -n -play.. crap! how hard is it to install the plug and play system in ur boat or would it be easier to let the dealer do it i have the two 400lb sack for the rear ... how pricey do you think it will be?
The rear plug n play isn't difficult because they share pumps with the rear hard tanks. The expensive part would be adding the bow ballast. They would have to cut a hole in the hull and add 2 pumps just for that bag. These boats absolutely love bow ballast for both surfing and wakeboarding.
If that's the case, then you'll have to wait forever for that front sack to fill, because you'd have to fill the 500lb center tank and then the 950lb bow sac. That's a lot of weight, and it's going to take a long time for 1450lbs to fill or dump. Plus, for surfing, I prefer to leave the center empty and fill the front bag. You wouldn't be able to do that unless you somehow rigged a system where you filled the center, then the front, closed off the drain from the front with a ball valve and then drained the center.
yea thats a winter project the seller says it takes about 15-20 to fill all the way and spence at wake makers said it nothing to onstall the 750s or 400s in the rear tank even without plug n play... soo Chatt ur the axis man i am commin form a dd supra launch anything i should be aware of or are they just that good of boats!
Here are my thoughts. I didn't switch to an Axis A22 until I bought a 2011 model. I know that there were various changes made between 2009 and 2011. For instance, the grade of vinyl was improved, the stereo components changed, options like under water lighting were added, etc. I'm not real familiar with the 2009 boats. Obviously, the hull and standard motor option haven't changed. If you can find a 2010 anywhere near the same price you're going to pay for the 2009, I'd buy the 2010. Plug n play was standard in 2010 I believe. The vinyl was better and some options were added. If the 2009 is such a good deal that you just can't pass it up, then jump on it if the boat appears to be well taken care of. The lack of plug n play would bother me, personally, but that's just from a hassle and resale standpoint.
What you ought to do is post up pictures of the boat and a ballpark of what you are expecting to pay. That way we can help you ascertain whether you are getting a good deal. The wake behind that boat is friggin amazing, and I know what it's like to be so stoked on a boat that you want to hurry up and pull the trigger, however, patience is a virtue, and there are a lot of used A22's out there. How about giving us some more info?
Jacob, I purchased mine in June of 2009. If I were to sale it today I would definitely buy another Axis! Btw my grab handle on the back is below the rubrail. I have had a couple of people salom behind ours (I'm sure its not the best), but no complaints. My Axis has influenced the sale of four more in my group of friends, and one more is just waiting to graduate college before he makes the purchase! The boats are Awesome... I'm sure you will not regret it, we've had 425 hours of flawless enjoyment!
2009 Cons over current year models (my opinion)
Folding tower side panels.
Step down/ seat on the transom.
4 board rack option.
4 piece bow seat cushion (easier for cleaning)
Swivel seat option.
Thicker cushion in seats.
2009 Pros over current year model.
Stereo w/ 6 mtx and amp vs. 4 w/o amp (stereo option 1)
Large glove box lid, instead of dinky mailbox door.
Stainless cup holders
Dual gas cylinders on the sunpad doors (later models are single).
Oh, and most importantly the price $$$
But honestly nothing yet makes us want to upgrade.
High 30's seems like a fair price for both parties. That boat hasn't depreciated much over the last 3 years, due to the prices of all boats going up and up and up. It would be nice to be in the mid 30's, but if you really like the boat, go for it. I haven't seen many '10 A22's below 40, so seems like you're where you should be on price with only 170 hours.
well its me and my fiance's dream boat and is some what affordable if i can sell my supra.. i am planning on picking it up next friday i will post pics!
We're making the exact same jump except we're planning on ordering a 2013 Axis in the spring. Just to give you a price gauge, we sold our 2000 Supra Launch for $17,250. We had it for sale from the end of last season and sold it right before memorial day weekend. The boat sounds comperable to yours, but from the quick stereo overview, I believe we had a bit more money into that and we included the 3 fat sacs and pump.
Soo i got the call and sold the supra for 17700 after reading adam's post I thought it was a fair price for the amount of hours i had on it (1150). the crazy thing is the guy who is buying the boat isn't even going to test drive it.... newbs... but i will post pics when i pick it up!!!!!!!!!!!! anything i should be looking out for when i test drive it?
Nice! I was thinking about taking down my post because looking back I thought it might hurt your sale.. I'm glad it didn't and that everything worked out! You'll have to let me know how you like the axis, we're thinking of an A20 Vandall (our private lake has a 21 foot limit)..
That 09 looks pretty sharp. I've always been a fan of the time piece graphic vs the new ones. They just look awesome to me...granted thats what mine has, but I thought about getting a new one, and having a company get the specs of the time piece logo and put it on a new one, kinda a retro beginning axis throwback feel haha. I have been very happy with my 2010 and had no issues with it. I bought it new with .06 hours and am now at 380 hours. I have one seat in the back that got warrantied for a double stitching instead of triple stitch issue. Axis and Matt have been great and working with me on it all. Axis customer support is very good and mine has held up great. We looked at trying to sell mine for a 13 but I may hold out for a '14. We were thinking of selling mine in the high 40's. The vinyl did make an upgrade from 09 to 10 but I saw an 09 that wasnt having issues with theirs as well. The back handle makes me think its an earlier 09 due to the bar being square vs round. They were having a issue near end of 09 trying to get that manufacturer to make that bar. They switched it to the malibu style round bar and moved it higher, then back down after that back prep seat. The prep seat in the back didnt come till 11.
Do you know what the Hull ID is? that will tell you what number it is in production. Mine is 153.
I am honestly a fan of the two front cushions vs the 4. I think it just looks cleaner. I know i'll get bashed for that comment.
Good luck, let us know if you get it.
picked up the new (to me) axis friday needed a deep cleaning so we busted out 4-5 hours on friday night and spent all weekend out on the water. The boat ran great no hick ups i am in love with the boat. I is gonna take some getting used to the wake coming from a straight up and down wake with a supra, but i am pretty sure i will learn to love it!!! so excited
