Only 2 more weeks and San V opens for weekends. I posted on the events page (SDSVSR), but got no response. Thought I would try here.

Just wondering what everyone is doing as far as what was previously SDSVSR. I know the squash has been put on as far as any organized party. On an earler post, Dave W and a couple others were looking at the possibility of partying somewhere besides in line with the boats (local bar/restaurant), then coming back to the staging area. I am not real hot on leaving my boat unattended, but that is another issue.

Getting sidetracked.

I am sure we will have a crowd, but does anyone have any ideas as far as having a good tome there, but not pissing off the nearby resident (Mr. Buzzkill), or the Rangers? I know most of us can have a good time, but not have to make a bunch of noise, etc.

Guess I am just looking for suggestions. Also wanted to hear who will be there.

I know weekends are not the best time as far as crowds, but at least it gives us some options with some of the crazy schedules some of us have.

See ya there!

OK - Who's going??

Yo Dave,

Is this going to be the official unveiling of the new official WakeWorld VLX?

Can't wait to see it

I'm thinking of going.. who's Mr Buzzkill and what can I do to piss him off?

Right as you enter the bottom of the lake (where they close the gate) there is a home. Apparently the person living there has made complaints about loud music/people. Let's not piss him off. He has already made it miserable for us. I suggest we send him on a Vegas trip that weekend!

oh, i thought bringing me would be a way to piss him off (among many others).

is the course going to be available?

You got a point Joe! jk

When are you coming down again!

As far as the course, I have only paid for it once. I assume it will be available. With weekend crowds coming soon, I am sure I will be paying for it much more often.

Well we had all intensions of going for opening weekend, as we have in the past few years, but
this year it falls on mothers day. Who the hell is responsible for the planning on this one.. In the past, it was always on memorial day weekend I believe. Bad planning this year on the part of the city or lake crew?
But I am glad to see the lake opening on the weekends sooner, that part is nice.
Anyways doesnt look we will be there for opening
weeekend this year.. But look at it this way, one less boat to make rollers to deal with.
See all of you on the following sunday for sure.

Bummer Kevin! You are one of the die hards I was counting on for being there. I understand about the family thing, but hey, this is wakeboarding! Where are your priorities?? I plan on parking my boat, leaving one of my homies on it to play watchdog, then run off to watch my GF graduate from the police academy. Then I haul butt back to my boat. Priorities!

Old     (big_xstar)      Join Date: Nov 2004       04-24-2005, 1:16 PM Reply
I hear ya on the priorities thing. Actually Lisa
was up for going down the night before and then just leaving early in the morning after a quick run. But we have to be in L.A. by 1. And I tell ya, once I get out on the water I wont want to leave.. Better we not temp the possibilities of not getting there on time.

Buzz,

I'd be there (much like every weekend at San V) but I'll be cruising in the Caribbean at that time! (feel sorry for me?)

Enjoy the weekend and let us know how many idiots show up and either can't make it up the hill or can't get the boat of the trailer with around 99 boats behind them. Gotta love it when the weather gets warm and the kooks come out....

Tyler,

Right, I feel for ya!

I know what you mean about the crowds. I mainly shoot for Thu and Fri, but opening day, and the Fri nite before is usually fun.

Hopefuly see you up there soon.

Hane fun on your trip!!

It would be cool to meet you and from what I hear you have all the ladies on your boat .

I hope you all are not planing on doing any riding on opening day. Any weekend is ruined for the summer at that lake.

Oh but you can ride in the slalom course area, now that is fun, doing a .33 mi pass and droping so you dont send rollers into the wakeboarding area. Dumbest thing I have ever heard. Who came up with that idea anyway? I think it was someone who doesn't even use the lake anymore.

San V doesn't need a SDSVSR. 100+ boats will show up anyway.

The original organizers of the event will not be there. They are all spoiled with there own riding spots and do not advertise like this anymore, they learned their lessons and do not ride the lake at all anymore.

The dealerships will turn out I am sure.

San V opening day = Mission Bay 4th of July

same concept right?

have fun waiting for 2 hours to launch unless you have your boat out there on Thursday at 6 am 2 days before you actualy launch.

Now that is a novel idea, get in line 2 days before you launch.
Old     (buzz_grande)      Join Date: Mar 2004       04-26-2005, 2:10 PM Reply
Ant,

Hhhaaa! All the ladies? Well, I do get a few sometimes, but not as often as I like. Besides my regulars from the past (Dre, Lindsey, Sara, Grace, Carli, etc) Aimee (Amay), Paula, and Alexis are troopers, and I can count on them just about any time (reminds me I need to call then for this week). They are great riders, and are fun to hang with. Kinds tough to look at though :-)

It would be cool if you make it down. Probably not much flat water that weekend, but some good times anyway. Seems to be a ritual on opening weekend of hanging out Fri evening and visiting with everyone. Sat we can fight the crowds, find a good beach spot, and have our own base with friends, couple of refreshments,} and hopefully hit the course so we can at least have some flat water.

Hope to hear from ya!

Hairbandude,

I know it sucks on weekends. That is why there is Thurs and Fri, which I prefer. I just like to go Fri on opening weekend for the party. I know it gets busy on Sat, but it still beats the sh!! out of sitting home anytime! As far as getting there 2 days before? The past 2 years I have come up to put my boat in line on Fri, in the AM, probably about 9 or 10, and been probably in the first 20-30 boats. That's good enough for me. I have also gone on busy weekend mornings and NEVER waited 2 hrs to launch.

I know this weekend may not be your cup of tea, but like I said, I mainly like to go for the party, and sort of kick off the summer season.

Hope to see you up there sometime on Thurs or Fri.

Cheer up bro! It is the only lake we have to choose from, and it tastes better than Mission Bay or SD Bay (Terd bay I and II).

Take care!

I went to San V once last summer. It was fun for about 30 minutes.

I told my neighbor (san v local) if he gets a spot in line I will let him pull me once or twice at 6 am of course and be done with it by 10 am.

I'm not sure if I can make it I may have to ride south of the boarder that weekend anyway.

That's right I said it "south of the boarder"

There will be 3 boats ahead of you that buy the whole course up before you get there anyway.

Just watch out for boats trying to jump over yours!

Buzz,

We'll definitely have to hang out during the busy weekends at San V. I try to get early morning and late afternoon pulls in on busy weekends and I spend the rest of the day on the beach with the family and friends tossin back a few and telling a few tall tales. Hell, I'll even pull a TUBE now and again!

Hairbanddude,

San V. isn't that bad! There are only 100 boats for goodness sake and 1/3 are usually stuck in line or wasting time tied up at the dock, another third are busy drinking or looking for trouble and the last third are racing and doing powerturns all over the lake. What isn't there to love? Seriously though, it really isn't that bad and if you get in line early or stay late decent water can be found.

I'm supposed to be in Vegas that weekend, hanging out with some good frineds from back home... But I'm not sure I want to miss this, afterall, this is probably my last summer in the SD area. Buzz, got any more room? A trip to Vegas is probably going to break me anyway.

http://www.wakeworld.com/news/2003/sdsvsr2.asp

The event was a lot of fun and I put a lot of time and energy into it....T-shirts, raffles, prizes and a band...it was/is a great way to meet new friends and hang out doing what we all like to do......until I started taking a lot of unnecessary CRAP from the lakes staff and local Sherriffs department. Getting arrested/or threatened to be for having a fun safe event just didn't make sense to me. Being held accountable for people breaking bottles in the parking lot, being held responsible for the person that threw up in a new boat, being held responsible for any theft that occured during the day or night.

I was told since I organized the event.....I was being held accountable for EVERYONE'S actions so I didn't put the event on last year or this year.

The lake sold out on opening day 2 straight years....something it didn't do in the past and hasn't since. We put $$ and time into the lake only to get crapped on.........I might not spend as much time there as I did in the past but it's for a good reason.

I show up once a month just to check it out and enjoy the weather that's good enough for me now.

Next year there might be something brewing but this year I just couldn't bring myself to do it.

Joe, Once the summer session starts the skiers will suck up all the morning passes for the back course.

You cannot buy a 6-10 and 10 to 2 pass in the morning you have to buy one and then go back and see if there is a spot available once your time has expired.

Summer months the best pass is the 2 to close.......almost 6 hours versus 4 for the rest and you get the evening glass off.

I plan to be there sometime during the day....

Tyler your right it isn't that bad. It's all we have here in this county for fresh water anyway.

Akman,
no hate, its all in good fun, I'll be out there once or twice this summer. Its just a terrible place to be if you want to actually do some riding after you fork out $40 and wait to ride. And I see that you happen to agree. Since you don't ride there anymore. Correct? We may happen to be neighbors soon anyway.

Next year there may be something brewing, yea the lake is going to closed right?

If the campout caused so many problems why couldn't they send out a security guard for the evening? It did sell out 2 years in a row though. Why did it sell out? Not because of skiers, WAKEBOARDERS....."the trouble makers."

SDSVSR 2005 is on, who's makin' the shirts?

I didn't know you were held responsible for the kid pukin in the boat either.

My apologies for stiring the pot a little. No harm intended to those who may have taken offense to some rants that blast the lake and staff.

Just say there is no event.

Everyone just show up and talk and have a party.

What are they going to do tell you to leave?

Man, Lots of background and bad feelings. I guess I just want to get together and have a good time!

I remember the puker. I spoke to the poor brand new boat owners the evening before. They had a really rough start with the new boat, I got lucky, being parked one boat away. Always one person in the crowd to make a mess! That issue has been beat to death in the past. Bottom line - amateurs should not drink! jk - all in good humor - take it easy!

Last year was pretty peaceful and low key. Had a great time hanging with friends on the boat, meeting a few new people, etc. As far as I know, there were no issues with noice complaints or the rangers.

Hairbandude,

I would like to ride this weekend, but the lake is not open until next, and besides, I will be camping at Vail lake this weekend. Anytime after that I am game.

Tyler,

Sounds good - hanging on the beach tellin' tales! We'll do that! Oh yea, and the riding too!

Blake,

Always room for you (as long as you bring Amy) Had to say it!

I am still putting together my regular crew but am still waiting to hear from some. Let me know!

Aki,

Hope to see you there sometime. We have met before, but I hardly ever see you around. Do you mainly hand at MB? I know you make it to the river also. Yea, I remember those pics (I think they were from you). I can understand the bitterness, but hopefully things have lightened up a bit. I have been going to San V for 4 years, and never had a problem. I was there on the "bad karma" day, and also a couple weeks ago when the boat got plowed over. Other than that, pretty un-eventful (well, except for some of the girls on my crew, but that's another story!).

Let's just go up and have a good time. If the wallys get too thick, we can hang on the beach, crank some tunes, and hope summer gets here soon!

See everyone there!

Buzz......Quote: Man, Lots of background and bad feelings. I guess I just want to get together and have a good time!

That's all I wanted to do too!!!

They were going to hit me with a fine for not getting a permit to have a so called "Event" at the lake.

Time heals all wounds but the ones the staff left me with run deep, being told by a paid staff member "one less wakeboarding boat on the lake makes my job easier" didn't sit well with me or my friends.

I have been using the lake in some fashion or another for over 10 years, I was told the reason the lake isn't open year around Monday thru Sunday is because of money. Then why on earth would you want to turn away a wakeboard boat that is going to put $35.00 or more for entry fees away?? A fishing boat only puts 10-15 dollars a boat into the lake (launch fees/per person fees) Most wakeboard boats have at least 4 people in/on them and in most cases more. Do the math wakeboarding brings $$ to the lake end of story.

El Capitan is due to open for water contact in a few weeks too so we shall see how things go over the next month or so.

The big problem for everyone comes in 2007 when the lake closes for 3 to 5 years to raise the height of the damn 85 to 100 feet.

See you on the 6th/7th

Gramps,

I know what you mean. I have only had attitude from one staff member thete, and she really does not matter to me anyway. I know one ranger there, and have spoken with a couple of them. They have been pretty cool with us anyway.

Money is always a big thing with the city. Not much we can do about that. I guess we just have to roll with the punches. I remember a while back when there was talk about launch fees for Mission Bay. What are they - F...in' nuts? I don't really like going there for free, let alone pay. With the amount of boats and PWC's there, they could make some bank though!

I was speaking to lake staff and was told that it would be 2008 that they would close. I am checking to see if I can get some good, reliable info. Yea, it sucks. Once it opens back up, it will be a whole different lake. I was tols that the Kimball Arm will go back like 1.5 miles. Should be interesting. I will check out El Cap this season. Have not been there when there was much water, and I am not sure how large of an area there is for boarding. My ranger bud said it is a pretty good size area, so we will see. I don't know about a boat # limit.

Ant,

Yea, that's the plan. Really have to get the boat in line on Fri. I am sure it will sell out Sat AM, and I hate waiting in line. Once we are in, a few of us should get a good beach spot, and "hopefully" a pass for the course, at least for part of the day.

Kevin,

Cool! When are you going? Fri in line, or Sat AM/ Hopefully Fri. Let me know.

Hope to see you soon!

Mike

Hairband's got it about right! San V's a fun place to hang out and swim but the lines, the fees and then I'll throw this in: you can pretty easily wait about 1-1.5 hours to get off the lake in the summer if you hang around for that half hour or so, or sometimes less, of glass.

That's why we're keeping the boat in Coronado and riding the big bay. Not the same social scene, and you feel pretty puny even in a 210 up against those yachts and the U.S. Navy, but it should work if you want to get some serious ride time in without having to spend all day on the project.

Gramps, thanks for clarifying: not seeing you around led me to believe that you and your crew thought you were too good for the rest of us!

We've ridden the boat a bunch already. The wake is definitely not like my old Moomba.

Without a doubt you're in. CC should send you a gift certificate. Came over the bridge at 9:30 a.m today; water was still glass and there were maybe 3 or 4 boats moving on the entire bay, from Point Loma to the refuge. Serious riding only sessions on the Big Bay, Riding/picnics at Mission Bay, hanging out and swimming at San V, the craziness at Fisher's Landing and the River. Good summer shaping up. Really looking forward to riding with ya'll!

OK!

Who will be there? Kinda want to get an idea so I know who to look out for in line Friday, and who to grab a beach spot with Saturday.

Dave W - What's up? - new or old boat - you should be there.

Tyler - You're out of town? You mentioned the blender on the beach and got me going.

Kevin - Mother's day has been cancelled!

Clubmike - D.C. is also closed down.

Steven C. - Bring that boat out and rinse off some of the salt!

Gramps - you gonna make it?

Hairbandude - how bout' you?

Umali - Only if Frankie comes and brings the Chile girls in the pics!

Blake - You workin or what? Steve?

Chris R - Where you been?

Alexis - You should be there!

Aimee - You too!

Wakepaula - Yea! Where you been?

Skerzz - You need to get back out here bro!

OB Steve - Hook your boat up and get out here. We need more than my boat!

OK - I will stop pushing. Should not have to beg! It would just be cool to get a good group Fri night to just hang and party with, and a couple boats for Saturday. We can get a beach spot, throw up the EZ-up, some tunes, refreshments, etc. If it gets crowded (and it probably will) and chopped up, we can wakesurf or something.

If I left anyone out, it was not intentional. Look for me and my boat in line Friday, or on Saturday, and let's hook up. I plan on getting a beach spot probably in the cove to the left of the course.

Who else! Come on!!

Hope to see everyone there!

I just got hit with some bad news on the new boat. Since they made a lot of changes to the boat that they really hadn't anticipated making for 2006 (gel coat, decals, tower, etc.), they've changed my delivery date to match the date that these boats will be available to their dealers. Therefore, I now have to wait until 6/15 to pick it up. So...no new boat for SDSVSR.

I'm still not sure if I'm going to bring the "old" boat. However, I'll definitely be there one way or another.

Buzz/Blake: mine's definitely not a party boat, but my younger son broke his arm, I don't ride much so if somebody wants to ride with us then hang with Buzz or whatever, that's fine.

Dave - Bummer, but I guess those things happen. Hope to see you there anyway!

Blake - Call me or I will call you later. Ladies swimwear - yea, hope there is not much of that around! jk You're in bro! You gonna make it out Fri eve?

Steve - Find me in line if you are there on Fri night. Otherwise look for me Saturday. We will maybe find a good beach to kick it at.

Kevin - Next Sat nite? I plan on going about 2:30. We'll talk before then.

Buzz,
Cool, I'll give you a call tonight. Yeah, I'm planning on heading out Friday night... See you there. By the way, I'll bring the dvd's.

Steven,
Man, what a bummer... To break an arm this close to summer... He has to be upset. If you're around, flag me down, I'll hang out.

So I am curious, is the consensus that there will be people waiting inline Friday evening but just no organized get together or is everyone just showing up early Sat?

I had a great time a few years ago (even though we didn't ride much from hangovers) but still a great time. We may end up coming down but not sure. I am also curious if anyone needs a third in case my buddies flake...i need to ride since it has been almost a year since ACL surgery and i've certainly got that wakeboard disease

I'll probably stay with my boat Friday night. Buzz, same? Could make it a low key event, then get some riding in Saturday and just see what happens. All we need is a portable DVD player, a cooler and some ice!

Oh, and no rain! What is up with this weather!!!!

Steven,

Yep! I'll be there. Taking the boat up during the day, then be up later in the day to hang out. Have to run off for a couple hours about about 5:30, but should be back about 7:30 or 8. Then staying the night. I will be leaving someone at my boat while I am gone, so feel free to stop by if I am not there.

Looking forward to meeting everyone. Should be fun!!

Randy,

My main reason to get there Friday is so I can get right in Sat morning. Of course, partying Fri nite is fun too! Unless you show up before sunrise on Sat, there is going to be quite a wait, and probably even a chance of not making it in.

As far as a 3rd, my boat is past full, but I will be getting a spot on the beach, and hopefully having a couple other boats to set-up with. I am not sure how much boarding will be done since the lake will be at capacity, which means no glass, or anything close. I have a couple beginner riders with me that can ride in anything, and a surfer, so we should still have a good time.

If you really get stuck and don't mind spending some time on the beach, you are welcome. PM me or call (phone sucks on the lake - BTW)..

Take care.

I asked the gate girl how many boats showed up, she said, 75 throughout the day. I bet there wasn't anymore than 30-40 boats out at the same time. Conditions were good in the morning, but the wind picked up, and changed all that.

Buzz,
Thanks for letting me tag along, I had a good time. Your girls were hot!

Well, here's my take....

Last couple years have been a blast, despite the crowds. I was kind of looking forward to more of a party, and pretty much wrote off much riding if it was crowded. This year was different, and I am not sure why.

Small but great group at the Fri gathering. Met a bunch of cool people, and did not get too hammered. Made it real easy to launch in the morning. First boat on the lake, and I did not even have to try very hard. Weather could have been a little better, but it was not too bad. Got chili when a cloud would come over, but other than that, it was nice. As far as the crowds, there were none. My guess was about 35-40 boats on the water at one time. Not bad for a weekend day at San V. Lots of trips to the cove, dock, etc kept the riding time down a bit, but we will make up for it next time out.

Company was great!!

Blake, Michael, Sara, Rhonda, Katie, etc. You were all great. Looking forward to summer!!

Blake,

Yea, I do have a pretty cool crew, but the ratio was still off. If the 5 others would have made it out, it would have been a great looking boat!!

I checked my camera and only have a few pics, and none are that great. I will check with Sara. Saw her taking a bunch. I also have to figure out the video end, and when I do, I will start posting some vids.

Bummer if you missed this Sat, but hope to see everyone out there this summer!!
