Can anyone give me pros and cons of 3 Stage vs. Conitnious. I am a low intermediate and am looking to get a new board. Any input is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
DG

as for low and intermediate, go with a continuous rocker the three stage is alot harder to ride, leave that for an upgrade board. I used to have a continuous, now i have the 3-stage parks 138, i ride advanced to outlaw, and it still took me a good month to really feel comfortable on the board.

a mate of mine is intermdiate but picked up the parks in one day. I'm around the same but have a premier, its absolutely fine for me, it took a couple of sets to get used to riding a 3stage but once i did i loved it, i'd say from my experience get a 3 stage unless you try a top of the range continuous.

But everyone else following me will probably agree with me say TRY THEM ALL OUT, then you'll really know.

never said i didn't like the 3-stage at first i loved it, and could do all my stuff on it. All i am saying is that it took my a while to get used to it, i have been riding continuous for a long time so it was a definate change in style of riding the continuous i had was the project 142 honey comb and it was a much faster board with less pop, the two were completly differnt styles of riding. And, i still think the two stage is easier for beginers and intermediate. But, like the man said try some out if you can. Not disagreeing with you Harry just wanted to give my experience.

Essentially, a 3-stage will give you more of a "bucking" type of pop and a continuous will give you more of a smooth, predictable pop. A lot of people like 3-stages because it requires less of a mastery of edging technique to get air. But if you learn how to edge properly, you will be able to get just as high on a continuous board. Look at Parks and Murray. Parks rides a 3-stage and Murray rides a continuous, and both those guys get enough air to go into orbit if they let the rope go. As you ride a variety of boards you will start to develop a persoal preference. I ride a belmont 136, which is continuous, and I absolutely love it.

I've never owned a continuous rocker board. I can't imagine riding but 3-stage.

what they mean by progressive rocker is that it's the two rockers (continuous and three-stage) blended together. Usually the rail is continuous and the hull or middle of the board is shaped more of a three-stage. The benefits of this are that the board is very predictable but still bucks hard when you hit the sweet spot. Some other boards that are like this are the LF Balance, and the Hyperlite Era (old premier). I believe the new premier is a full 3-stage.

its pretty much comes down to personal preferance. Alot of people say 3-stage will give you more pop, but this is very untrue, its just a differant pop(look a Lyman and Murray). Personally I really like these blended/progressive rockers, then cont' then 3-stage.
