Last year we saw a HD show all about humming birds. If you can catch the full 60 min show it's a great watch
http://youtu.be/3Nb04tCK5AI
They are quite amazing. We hung a few feeders around the house and now we have regulars and they become quite tame. The regulars and now protecting their feeders and chase off other humming birds. We were watching one chase another and this guy flew into the window right In front of us and knocked him self out. It looked like he broke his neck. He was on the ground twitching. We went out and wrapped him up in a paper towel and bright him inside to warm him up, it was mid 30's outside it looked like he broke his neck and he was gonna die. After about 15 mins he seemed to be ok. We brought him to the window and he wanted to Fly so we opend it up and he flew away. He was back at the feeder 15mins later and seems less afraid of us.

wow...hummingbirds around central TX usually aren't so colorful.

do you have the clean the feeders often? my in-laws have lots of them flying around. i was going to get them a feeder but some reading showed the feeders had to be cleaned often or the food would get contaminated and possibly make the birds sick. something like that.

I have had the Feeders up since summer and I was going threw the Food about 2 bottles a week. We started with 1 feeder but they blazed threw it in less them a week so we installed a 2nd feeder so that when we are away from the house for the week they have a 2nd source of food. I keep the feeder in a area that's covered so the sun is not pounding it, so I think that helps in Not having to clean it and it Not growing anything. It's super easy to clean anyways. Every time I add the food I just rinse it with super hot water and that cleans it real good. I'm sure over time the birds start to depend on the food and during the winter time the depend on it more them ever.
We also feed the Squirrels. Here is a picture of the Doorman at the Crazy Horse Bird house Saloon at my house

My brother has a small hummingbird feed at his house in SoCal. When I went to visit him last summer, we were refilling the feeder every 4 hours. They are awesome little birds with an attitude. They will fight over a little sugar water.
