Does anyone have any recommendations on in dash depth gauges, how much installation would be? I hear hummingbird is a good brand.

I just replaced mine with a Faria guage that had a transom mounted sensor. This guage does air/water in addition to depth. So far so good! Hummingbird is also very good. I went with the faria because it matched my dash better and had the air/water temp. You will probable pay 1-2 hours of shop labor rate for installation. My dealer charge 100/hr. I was able to buy the guage on line and have it shipped to the dealer for instal which saved me a little on the parts markup.

Awesome thanks, I looked at the Faria and they look nice but I read in a post awhile back people were not happy with there performance in extreme depth change situations.

I would be curious about people's experience with transom mounted sensors, especially placement. My thru-hull sensor is far from dialed. That may explain my need for another prop

My Faria transom sendor in terms of the depth guage seems to be OK. I used it a lot when I was at Martinez and I left with my prop intack. The air/water temp readings however seems kinda sketchy to me.

My experience is that the depth gauge provides confirmation that the loud THUMP and quick stop is indeed due to a lack of water depth.

If you are going really slow while you check out a beach / cove and really watching the depth gauge then you might get a warning based on the slope of the bottom. When you are traveling at 30 MPH, however, it is very unlikely that you will even notice a change in depth in time, let alone stop in time.

I have had 2 hummingbirds and a Uniden and all have not worked correctly. I dont even bother looking at the depth gauge anymore.
