2005 substance - 138 vs. 142

anyone ridden both sizes? is the 142 faster than the 138? does the 142 land softer?

Joe, the 142 lands much softer. As for the speed I think they are about the same. I also think the 142 has a little more pop also.

hmmmm, what are you thinking Joe?.... I've owned both sizes. Rode them each for about 1/2 a season. The 138 was a great board, but had hard landings. I thought the 142 was much better. It landed softer and felt like it tracked better. Oddly enough.... I thought the 138 popped better. May have been the lighter weight or shorter length rode up the wake different, but I thought the 142 felt a little mellower.

evan, i'm thinkin' it's my next board!

i liked the 138, but had a couple hard landings. not something i can't live with, but if the 142 is better, then i'm with it!

I rode the 138 until my knees felt like they were going to snap off. I couldn't keep control of the board on 180 landings in the flats. But...I was on a 138 which is a little smaller than I'm used too. My technique could have been a little off at the time too. I did take the 142 for a very short ride and to me, it felt like a totally different board, but it didn't really get a fair chance.
