Going to Vietnam! - Non-Wakeboarding Discussion

I am leaving for Vietnam on July 1st for 2 weeks. I am meeting a friend who is coming from Europe. We are both flying into Hanoi and then going to move around the country hopefully on motorcycles. I only have a few things that i know I want to do. One is visit the Phong Nha Caves and another is go to Halong Bay. Other then that Im not sure what I want to do other then eat a bunch of food.

Has anyone been there before? Any suggestions on things that I shouldn't miss? Places to stay or avoid.

buy good earplugs - their language is BRUTAL on the ears.. My good bros wifey is Viet... She speaks TOTALLY normal english but when she's talking to her Mom, you need those airport earmuff things..

My Bro went for a month with her whole family last year. He said it was a great trip.. They did all the touristy ****, he had a blast.

My dad has been there and he says to avoid the entire damn country!

You should also avoid the surfing... its all beach break...

im headed there too but in the fall. post up ideas when you get back. im gonna get a suit made, going to the caves, and boat riding on the mekong delta. id like to check out some war forts too.

Jeff, i know their language isn't exactly music to the ears but it will be interesting haha.

Alan, I am for sure getting a couple suits made. Ill report back when I get home. It should be a really fun trip.

Anyone else have any productive ideas other then saying not to go?
