I may be in the market for a used boat, and I really like plain gelcoat. Are decals easy to take off? Will there be significant a shadow left behind from the non-decal area fading?

I'm talking about the large "X-star" "air" and "malibu" designs/decals.

Thanks for any info.

Yes it’s easy to do. I used a heat gun to get the Maristar (off white hull) decals off the side of my boat. Cliff just did the same on his Mob V. (black hull)

The amount of shadow will depend on the color of the hull and how much the original owner cleaned and waxed it. Probably a safe bet that most people with an X Star or Malibu would have taken half way decent care of the boat. You could probably tell if there was oxidation on the back of the boat enough to gauge if you need to look for a cleaner boat.

I have heard that even with a darker color that if there is a shadow that it will fade out a bit overtime and be less obvious. Given some of the posts I have seen on cleaning up oxidized gel coats I would think you could just detail the boat and you should be set.

I'm planning to remove the stickers from Mobius LSV and install the new Moomba sticker. Is there anything that needs to be done to the hull before I apply the new sticker. I plan on using goo gone to get the sticker residue off but do I need to do anything else.

A.P.-
I put the new Moomba graphis on mine. I used a heat gun and then goo gone in a few spots and then cleaned it real good with rubbing alcohol. New graphics look real nice.

Chris, What's up!

I've been at castaic a the last few weekends, I kept an eye out for ya. I've been having all sorts of boat issues up there, so I am looking!

I already have the info for a HELOC, %4.2, no other costs that I can see besides tax/recorder fees. I am starting to make a list of boats that are available, although it may be awhile. Maybe a new Sanger V210 or a used x-star, supra, SAN, or vlx.

Whatever I get, I will likely take the decals off the side. Some logos do look cool, but eventually I think that they date the boat.
