In your opinion, which boat throws down the best wake? If possible, back up you answer with pictures. In my opinion, the 03' X-2 takes the cake:Upload

That X-2 wake looks like you were going a little to slow.

Isn't that the MC website photo?

My choice is from a US Navy destroyer. 15' wake at about 20 knots. .. I tried to upload a pic, but all of them are too big. I don't have the patience to shrink them down. The ship to the left of the carrier is one that I'm talking about. In that pic, the ships are doing about 12 knots, and so they do not really have a wake coming from the back. ... This is a design feature, to avoid torpedo attacks.

robb, curious why does it mater the size of the wake to help avoid torpeod attacks?
Old     (liveoz)      Join Date: May 2002       05-14-2006, 5:54 PM Reply
It would be easier to sink the destroyer, won't need to run as much weight as the aircraft carrier plus the ac's wake is to rampy for me.
Old     (elo)      Join Date: Jun 2005       05-14-2006, 5:58 PM Reply
i agree!!! the destroyers put out mass wakes, they are at least a 10 footwake, my dads sail boat takes them over the bow, and thats an easy 7 feet above the water

HAHAHA... Thank you Lance

A torpedo works by going back and forth looking for the turbulance in the water from a wake. A new destroyer has about a 1' wake in the back up until 12 knots. The torpedo when it is looking, doesn't see this as turbulance, and then does not follow the path into the back of the boat. .. More than that is classified.

Troy, sinking a destroyer is not easier than an Aircraft Carrier. ... Again, classified, but true.

Lance, that is by far the biggest wake picture I have ever seen. There has to be something up with that picture, please tell us that it is a vertically challenged individual riding behind that boat??

It would be like hitting a wall of water, it's almost the same size as some kickers I have seen.

Yeah, I don't wanna be 'that guy', but I have to this time. Is that photoshopped? That wake is unbelievable.

For my effort, here you go. SN 2001 with 1800 lbs. Too bad the water is a little rough.

Walt- that is the funniest thing I've seen all day. Looks like something from the tabloids....

Lance, please come clean. Was this photo altered? Yea, we're all skeptics only because we all dream about wakes that beautiful. As an 06 VLX owner I have to know the truth. Is that photo timed perfectly with a roller passing by? Whats the catch? That is absolutely amazing.

that is definatly shopped. that would wipe out docks and whatever else was around. and the table in the middle is like 3 feet higher than surrounding water
Old     (wakeslife)      Join Date: Jul 2005       05-15-2006, 3:21 PM Reply
Guys that photo is obviously shopped. Just look at where the wake curls over, and how it just stops. No way that is an accurate picture.

Yeah that wake goes to about his waist thats abour 3-4 feet you would fly off that thing. I would be afraid to approach it

OK, I have to end the wet dreams and come clean with the pic. I got the picture through an email and I will probably have to agree with everyone that the picture has been shopped. I will have to admit I have pondered for hours staring at this pic, just hoping that it's real.

Anyways, I thought I would bring some humor to this post before the boat bashing started.

Lance the only way that would be real is if he was wakeboarding behind a....nope nothing can make a wake that big and that clean

paddle boat?
Old    ausbill32            05-15-2006, 8:47 PM Reply
this is my friend catching some air off my 06 Supra 21v. Mind you this wake is only the two rear 400 pounds sack loaded with 3 people in the boat. He's riding at 70 feet

This weekend, I'll load the boat up with 1400, put the wake plate down and get 6 people or so. The wake plate seems to add about a 1 foot of height.Upload

Sam- How much weight and what configuration are you running? It could just be the pic, but for an XLV that wake doesn't look as big as what the XLV can throw. Again, it could just be the pic. The wake behind my XLV is intimidating when we have it dialed it and in the right depth.
Old     (entrustclothing)      Join Date: Jul 2005       05-15-2006, 9:17 PM Reply
Kraig that is my XLV, the pic doesn't do the wake justice, it was unreal, scary big. my friend came out with us for the first time and was like i'm a wake snob so we need a lot of weight for me to be happy. so we loaded up with about 2600# of ballast and about 1400# in people so about 4000# in the boat. the wake was unreal he threw a scarecrow and crashed cause he wasn't expecting it to be so big. my first heelside hit ended in a face plant, cause i wasn't prepared for how big it was.

Ok finally I will play too... been shown several times, but the only one I have had enough energy to shrink for the board.... This was from my 05' 21V at about 70' and 2K - 2.5K lbs. Maybe some day I will get some pics behind the 06' if I ever see it...Upload

Chuck-
The plate is about halfway or maybe a bit past half towards the up position. Not steep enough? I guess we could compare some pics to some other 21Vs.

the sport nautiques look to have just as big of a wake as a the 21v. how is that possible
Old    ricktrav            06-10-2006, 8:52 AM Reply
the wake on my sn is very good for an under 10k boat, but the it is shorter and in the picture I belive that we are riding at only 60 to 65 feet back. 65 feet being the max. still she throws a great wake.
