I was wondering if any of you have or have heard the new deafcon 2 speaker system? I just got a new VLX and I got the Boss 70 speakers on the tower and they don't really sound that loud for what I paid for. On my old VLX I had the old kicker speakers that were in the little box and they were loud as hell. I can't find those anymore and was wondering what would be just as loud?

You need a bigger amp. Amp will make louder. Different speakers will not make that much of an audible difference unless you go high dollar super efficient stuff like Dynaudio, CDT, Rainbow and etc.

Make that different speakers of the same size. Obviously, an 8 inch speaker will move more air than a 6 inch speaker.

I forgot exactly what amp I have pushing it but
I went and got a different one. I put the maximum watts that those speakers say they can handle and its still not near as loud as those kicker speakers were.

I have seen amps rated at 1000 watts that are lucky if they are pushing a true 150 watts at normal voltage levels. Brands make a big difference.

I have two crunch amps in my boat and they were really cheap one is a 1000 watt and the other is a 1400. i know they push what they say other wise you couldn't hear it all over the lake. You can hear the system before you see the boat.

its a mtx amp if that helps

So what's the point. Do you have the 1000 watts going to full range speakers at 4 ohms? If so, I bet the speakers are not seeing a 1,000 watts. I have a 440 watt McIntosh that will play speakers louder than a 1,000 watt PPI I have. Point is, you can hear 440 (110 per channel) true watts all over the lake also.

The Boss cannisters probably have MB Quarts in them. There will be less volume difference between an MB Quart speaker and say a Kicker speaker of the same size than there will be with different amps. I have miked MBs and alot of other speakers. Though there are small differences in dbs, I would look to the amp being the culprit first.

Is it 2 Channel. The 8302 is the most powerful 2 channel I saw. That amp is only 75 X 2 in 4 ohm. Need about 150 or more in 4 ohm for towers. They can handle it.

ok, i just looked on the amp box, i have the mtx thunder 4000 at 280 watts, 2 channel. They are mb quart speakers and now i've bought the amp too. So should I just try to sell those speakers and get some different ones or what? I just figured for the 650$ i spent on those speakers they would be loud. The kicker box speakers i had up there before were twice as loud, at half the price. They also ran off an amp that was half the power as this new one. So I guess I just need to know which speakers would be LOUD as HELL on that amp or am I going to have to get a bigger amp to. I think I'm gonna go broke before this is all over

by the way, I got that amp because the speakers say they can only handle 150 per speaker

I just looked at MTX web site and the 4102 only has 50watts per channel I would dump the amp and get a Soundstream Rubicon series 2 Rub1000-2 puts out a true 200 watts X 2 at 4 ohms I have 2 running my tower speakers a pair of Boss B-60 and 2 pair of B-50 and they are loud. I have tried MTX in the past and thought there amps were underrated the 280 watts is probably bridged at 2 ohm there is nothing wrong with Boss speakers.

The rms level on the kickers is only smoething like 50 watts so be careful trying to throw 130 at them all the time, because they will not be able to take it. Skylon lists their maximum wattage, not their rms.

Just looked up your mtx amp again and the 4000 series is a last years model not made any more it is now the 4202 and its specs are 50 watts X 2 at 12.5 volts or 280 watts X 1 at 14.4 volts 50 watts are not going to run those mb quarts they need at least 60 watts just to get them going I would return the MTX amp and buy a amp with 150 watts rms per channel then those B 70 will be loud as hell. good luck

well what amp do you recommend? Does anyone have those speakers? What are you running to them? Thanks for all the help

Ryan, I would get either a Phoenix gold 500.2 or a Kicker KX500.2 both are about 450.00 or for around the same you could get a Soundstream Rubicon 1000.2 200 watts X 2 @ 4 ohms I like there amps I have four in my boat. Is this amp only going to run tower speakers?
Old    xtigeman            04-17-2003, 10:17 AM Reply
Most amps max ratings (unless high end with regulated power supplies) are in 2 ohm or 1 ohm/bridged and etc. An 2 channel amp that produces 150 watts per channel in 4 ohm (almost all speakers are 4 ohm) will generally be a 600 watt amp. So you shoiuld looks for a 2 channel amp with 600 watts or more.

I have used the Pheonix Gold 500.2 and 600.2. The 500.2 is 125 watts per channel and the 600 is 150 watts per channel.

I have a Pheonix gold Titanium 500.4 running 4 Titan bullets(Kicker) and it is loud and really great sound!

this amp is only going to run the mb quart tower speakers, so will a 600 watt amp not blow them? its rated at 130 watts and they are 4 ohm speakers.
