been trying to get my boat to quit hunting & hold speed a little better, and i'm getting a little frustrated. thought this might be a useful topic -

post your boat, engine, prop, ballast setup, KDW and NN settings on PP, and how close your speed holds here...

i have a 96 VLX, Monsoon I 320hp, 14x18 4 blade OJ, 1k rear / 1k front, KDW=100, NN=default (100?), holding within about 1 mph right now.

If your speed is flucuating that much I would question something else in the system (such as paddle wheel placement or throttle linkage setup).

2000 VLX: 350 lbs left-rear, 350 lbs right-rear, 400 lbs locker and 500 lbs bow.
PP default setting holds speed near perfect (within 0.2 mph).

So, I agree with Jason.

2003 VLX: Stock Ballast + Wedge 23 + 400 lbs. of lead (215 up front, 185 in back).

KDW: 80 NN: 160 - These are not stock settings.

My Perfect Pass is working kind of like Trace's - I'm wondering if the NN is too high?

It looks like I have something else for my 10 hour service list!

paddlewheel
note the ~5º angle twds keel. the manual recommends pointing it at the keel a bit if it's not located dead ctr on the hull, but how much?

2002 Malibu VLX Stock ballast plus 350 up front 400 in the rear KDW 250 NN 100 I have found it easier just to leave the NN setting as is 100 from the factory. I also make sure that I auto tighten the servo now and then, check the manual to see how this done.

03 SAN, factory ballest, 600 rear, 200 front, PP holds speed within .3 at speeds above 19 mph. KD is set at 85. Engine upgrade to 6 Liter, 370hp. If speed selected is below 17, speed hunts a bit but still within 2 mph. If I have more then 4 or so on board I raise the KD to about 100 and that helps the speed stabilize quicker. There are a bunch of self tests that you can run in the back of the manual if you feel that it is not responding well. Good luck.

Trace, after alot of messing with different settings this is what has worked for my particular problem. You will just have to play with it and see what is good for your boat. One thing that I feel is important is that when you are under way and the PP activated and you turn it off manually you will most likley have to reset the auto tighten feature. This will keep the servo tight and will not do all the serching for the proper speed. and by the way the higher KDW rating did solve my problems similar to yours.

thanks Scott, i'll try going up that high next time out. my throttle linkage tests out fine, and i've been checking the servo manually. it's been snug every time i've checked it unless i've messed with the throttle a lot w/the motor off. i thought the "back off 1 turn" procedure in the manual is just to verify the auto-tighten is working properly? thx again. anyone else?
