Finally uncovered the boat last night and some of the tape from the shrinkwrap left it's sticky stuff on the fiberglass and rubrail. What's the best/easiest way to get this off?? I was thinking acetone ....
If you get acetone on rubber components be careful. It will soften the rubber and distort the shape if you rub to hard. Ok on gel coat and stainless rub rail.
Cheap brake cleaner in a spray can from Zona del Auto. It won't melt gelcoat like acetone. It will also dissolve 5200 sealant if you are installing a thru hull. Spray on, wipe off.
WD 40 also works, but personally I recommend the use of Goo Gone. It works easily to get the state sticker off the boat each year. I also have found other uses for it. $5 at Lowe's.
Thread JACK! Cool Goo Gone story! Had an entire bottle of Thread lock(the blue) blow up in my basement a few years ago... It got all over the carpet and smelled awful... For 2 months I tried to get that stain and smell out and it wouldn't work... finally tried Goo Gone and it took it right out with some scrubbing! Smell was gone too! Amazing...
