the issue isnt size with an i/o its the shape, they just never get the right wake shape.

Mine was decent with 800 in the bow and 350 in the rear with 3 people

Our old Sea Ray threw out an alright wake with one 250 litre in the walkway and one down the back. The problem was it didn't have the power to pull up any more since it only had a 135hp. But you can definitely get a decent wake out of an i/o you just have to play around and see how much weight it can handle and placement

we used to have an I/O and if you trim up once on plane it helped our wake shape up nice. There is nothing i couldn't do behind it that i can do behind my x30.

Reinell 180 with 4.3 liter V6 and 600 lb. sac in the walkthrough. The hardness of the wake is the main thing lacking on an I/O.

we have a 20ft i/o seaswirl 190 (1993)trimming up the prop makes a difference in the shape and the size, add some weight also. we trim ours up just about half way depending on the water condition.

We had 5~600 in the bow and 7 on board yesterday (18ft I/O) the wake was real nice. Heaps of pop, kinda hard to keep it clean and stay at a constant speed though, but it comes with practice.

Size was pretty good, about knee high maybe a little more.

I should really get some pics of it, but I wouldn't say it's not the right shape. Looks pretty nice to me, feels great when you hit it...

You can kind of see the shape of the wake she throws in these pics. Not the best but you get an idea. This is with 4 up in the boat, front ballast full.

First pic the boat is probably going a little too fast, it ramps up a lot more like in the bottom photo but you can't really see much of the wake.

i have an 89 Wellcraft 18' with a v-8 350, any ideas on weighting it so that I can get a good wake.

MM- bow weight seems to be the consensus on how to weight the I/O's. something like 60/40 bow/stern or some people have said 70/30 bow/stern. It's just gonna take some trial and error. Trimming up has always helped clean up our wake and now hopefully with more bow weight I'll be able to get a little bit of a lip on the wake.

This is as big as mine gets before it wont get up on plane. Pry about 600 pounds in front and another 300 in the back. Sand bags and bricks....

Lots of weight in the bow and trim up works well for me, I use people as opposed to ballast. It's a little tricky to maintain constant speed, perfect pass would be nice, but I have heard mixed reviews with the I/O's.

ok what you need to do it put as much weight in the boat till it hardly gets on the plane and then you know you have maxed you wake. Load that pig till it can hardly move

I guess a stern drive weighs more than a v drive... Anyone know? (Just the drive, not the whole boat) Our boat definitely likes more weight up front. Also helps with bow rise taking off.
