Looking to buy my first wake boat. My budget is about 25k and I am down to either a new Outback or a used Tige (there is a 21i I found for sale)...

Any opinions?

A new Outback is gonna require a ton of weight for a decent boarding wake. Like 2200-2500 lbs. The boat is gonna be filled with fat sacks. Just something to keep in mind. I'd probably go with a used boat.

Im new new new to wakeboarding (but im hooked)... will I need all the extra ballast to create big wakes before I would just get a bigger/better boat?

I guess that depends. I don't think the fundamentals of wakeboarding are all that difficult to pick up, so after a few months I'd imagine that you would be looking for as good a wake as you could get to start attempting bigger and more complex tricks. The outback is a decent enough boat, I'm just saying to expect that after a while, you'll be sacking that bitch out. :-)

If you're hooked on wakeboarding, it's only gonna get worse I promise.

I would stay away from the tige if it is older than 2002.. the wake on those things was sooo sloppy.. I dont wanna Pi$$ off any tige owners. The wake required soo much to clean it up.I dont know that much about the moomba but I can guarantee you that it doesnt have wood in it like the tige's do..I hope I am not opening any wounds when I talk about tige's wood..good luck dude.

Chris,
Which model Outback are you looking at. The Outback LS and LSV are virtually identical to the Mobius LS and LSV - same hull shape, but most of the standard features on the Mobius are options on the Outback. If it is the LS and LSV it will have a very good wake when weighted down. The standard Outback (not the LS or LSV) is a ski boat with a different hull (i.e., not conducive to killer wakes).
