Wakeboarder with a skateboarder question

Want to buy a longboard just to cruise around on when I'm not on the water and to help me get more comfortable riding switch. I don't know the first thing about skateboards and was wondering on what size/style I should be looking for, in my reasearch i've notice there are many of both. I'm 6'3 195lbs if that helps. That's exactly why I bought a Sector 9 board a few years back. I love it. It's great for helping switch riding and bombing hills makes me happy. I'ts one of the longer boards, 48" inches I think, with very little concave. With your size and what your looking to do, I would go with around 44" or longer. Especially if you have never skated before.

The selection in Dallas sucks, I would suggest you go to one of the skate parks in the area, either X-games skate park in Grapevine Mills Mall, or Eisenbergs up in Plano. They should have at least 2 or 3 longboards you can look at to size them up. If you don't see what you like then order online... Check these out...

Thanks rammer, when you say "very little concave" is that a concave up or down? When i'm reading the descriptions of these boards I don't know if that concave is a dip down in the board, or a crown/bow upwards. Does that make sense? Also, thanks for the references in Dallas, TX, but I'm actually in Phoenix, AZ.

concave is up. Sides are higher than the center.

The only board that truely mimicks the carve of a wakeboard. Let me know if you need help getting one.

How about when I'm choising wheels, soft, medium, or hard? I'm just looking to cruise and carve.

Itch, do you have a flow board? How do you like it? It looks like it would be hard to push on, like your front foot would be too unstable cause I would think your lead foot would wobble, how different does it feel from a regular skate deck and is it hard to get used to? I've been checking out the site and it looks pretty neat.

Its a lil different but nothing you dont get used to or adjust, I learned to keep my foot back a lil more than a tradtional skate to push.
I would upgrade to the higher wheels and would get some high end abec's bearings. then you can glide forever and boy look out another addiction.
