I haven't made any changes to it yet, what do you suggest? Volvo 5.0 GL SX I/O with 4X21 Alum prop.

600-1000 lbs of ballast and a tower.

Kirk, I have a 205 and it puts out a decent wake with one 500# sak. I run a 4 blade 14x18 prop-excellent hole shot, pulls any size rider w/ no problem and no stress to engine.

Paul, where do you put the sac?? How big is a 500# sac?

Also can I install a pylon instead of a tower? for now atleast?

Paul, on your 4 blade prop, is it alum or sst? what size do you go from? I am looking into changing my 3 blade to 4. I have a 185 Reinell.

The sak sits on the floor in front of back seat. Its almost as high as the seat and about 6inches in from each end. Ive seen pylons on this type of boat, but personally I would rather have the tower. Takes up less space. The prop is sst. If Im not boarding, just out cruising with the family for the day I will use either a 3 blade 19 or 21. What size motor do you have in the 185? Ive got the 5.0 and all 3 props work fine. I also put a hydrofoil fin on the drive. It planes out @ 12 mph.

Paul, my engine is the 4.3l. How much difference was adding the hydrofoil?

Big difference!! It planes out real quick and helps stablize it somewhat. Only drawback is your top end speed. I lost around 5-7mph. But since Im not a hot rodder type, it doesnt matter. My friend has a vlx that we alternate riding with. He enjoys boarding with my boat as much as his. Lane, I would check with a prop shop about which 4 blade you should get for your motor. My last boat I had a completely different 4 blade (dont remember the size) for a 135hp i/o and it made a big difference.
