Does anybody tow their boat with this truck? My dad has one and wants to get rid of it and I need a cheap tow vehicle. I just bought a 2006 Supra 20SSV and im wondering if that motor/trans could handle it?

Yes-Great engine -in fact one of the best made - it is very torquey. I had one in HS.

Basically a tractor engine, very reliable and strong for a six. Is the truck an automatic or stick?

Those engines are better for towing than the small v8's of the same vintage. Either trans will be fine towing the 20".

Its a 5-speed manual with the 4 wheel drive system where you turn the switch on the wheel.

Anthony, those are manual locking hubs. With the 5-speed manual, that thing is a true workhorse!
Pretty much IS a tow truck!!
I'd love to find a utility truck like that.

I will! I gotta drive to Omaha from Minneapolis to meet up with the current owner and pick my new baby up! Some of you might know him and the boat. Im buying Charlies 06 Supra 20SSV aka TeamNeptunes.

I know of a couple from around that vintage that are still running but the only comment I would have is that everything has a lifespan. That being said my 96 v8 explorer has just started costing me a little money here and a little money there. I just installed a new front end, bearings-upper control arm with ball joints, lower ball joints, brakes, inner and outer tie rods, and sway bar links. This was all due to a ball joint on the right going and I figured why not just replace it all while I was in there. About $250 later and some time (free). I also just had to rebuild the driver side power window motor $15 and some time (free) I still would rather do this then make a monthly payment (havent been for a few years now) It is 14 years old, soon to be 15 so be ready to do some maintenance as I have been.

I still get people looking for trucks with the straight 6 pretty regularly. It's an excellent motor with a very good service record the inline 6 has great low end torque to pull you outta the steep ramps.
