boat is two hrs away and am needing dimensions under the dash. i have a malibu 247 and want to know if any body has had problems fitting a 20x20x16.75 size box under the dash. wetsounds has this box size as a sample to build just want to make sure it will fit. thank you.

Not sure about a Malibu, but I have 2 of those boxes at that size under my helm and port console. Pics at photobucket: jonyb1. There are pics of the boxes before carpet sitting on teh workbench.

I'll have an 08 Malibu 23LSV at my shop Monday if you want some measurements. We'll be building a ported enclosure for an XS-12.

John I'd be interested with what you come up with on that LSV I'm looking to put a new sub in my 09' LSV. Post pics when you're done. Are you going to do a rectangle box or will you follow the angle of the hull to gain cu ft for the box?

Probably won't know until we get the boat here and start measuring. We've built several boxes for the XXX by the specs they list, but the last boat we did, we built our own box with a slot port on face and to me it sounded a lot better. For that setup we had the same amp as all the others.

John what do you mean by "slot port on the face"? Isn't that how most slot ported boxes are constructed?

You don't need that EXACT size box. You just need the same cubic space (I think it's 1.2 cubic ft, but don't quote me) The dimensions are inconsequential as long as you have the mounting depth for the magnet to clear.

The XXX is the same as the
Bravox Audio Competition EDX12D-2
http://www.bulletlines.com/Marine-SPL-Subwoofer-p/4550.htm

So the specs for that one will work for the XXX as well. There is an owner manual download in the link below.

The EDX12D-2 looks to be the same as the XXX, and the optimum vented dimensions according to Bravox Audio is 16" x 16" x 10", so it does not need to be as big as the dimensions posted on Wet Sounds site.

Thanks,

The EDX is NOT the same as the XXX. We have worked with Bravox for years and co developed many products together both ours and theirs. So we share a frame to keep tooling costs down. The XXX has a different magnet, different cone, different spider, different parameters.

Hyperlite, sorry that you thread got hi jacked with bad information.

There is a sealed and ported enclosure in the owners manual. The triangle slot loaded box is designed for ease of build and also a smaller size and good output. Resulting in a good combination of the 3. The larger one that is a front rectangle port is the SPL enclosure. This box is designed for those that have more experience building boxes and have the room. If you can fit it, this enclosure

Wow the Bravox sub looks like a damn sick sub here is a link to a review on it.

Yeah I guess I posted some bad info. The Bravox audio sub is actually BETTER than the wetsounds sub! A couple of things are the power handling goes all the way to 3000watts instead of just 2000. Also the sensitivity is greater by 1db/per watt at 91 db at 1watt/1 meter. This beast also ways closer to 50lbs. Considering Bravox has been around for quite for something like 50years I would guess they developed this speaker on their own. Plus this thing is like $50 cheaper!

J. Brenner, if you do some research you will see the EDX sub is a spl competition sub. The XXX sub is a combination of spl and daily sound quality use. That is why you will see the different specs. Also, the XXX sub is a marine sub. And the other sub is a car audio competition. The EDX is a great sub. But it is designed for a different applications vs. the XXX sub which is designed for marine use and in daily operation. And as I am sure you are aware, marine products usually cost a bit more for the different materials use to build the product for a marine environment.

Well Tim you win there because I can't proof they are different but man they look to be exactly the same! Sure your have the wetsounds logo all over it but that looks to be about it. Other speakers in your line also look identical to the other Bravox subs so I assumed these to be the same as well. i.e. the

XS-10FA
http://www.wetsounds.com/pages/products/XS-10FA.html

Looks to be identical to the EXS10D-4
http://www.bulletlines.com/Marine-Subwoofer-p/4552.htm

and the XS-12 looks to be identical to the EXS12D-4

nubu, slot port on the face is how most are constructed, but in the XXX owners manual it shows a triangular port just like Tim says. We've built a few of the triangular ported enclosures, and one of our own. I'll post pics of the one we built when I get back to my office. I think it sounded a little better then the triangular ported ones, but that's just me. not exactly louder, but more of a cleaner sound. I'll have to see if I've still got the dimensions on that one, but I'll post pics of it later.

If anyone is needing something installed and is close to his area I would highly reccomend him. When he comes back to TN I am going to have him work on mine he just doesnt know it yet lol!!! He gave me some great ideas yesterday

HA! Thanks Jason...

NuBu, here's a few pics of the Centurion I did. Again, this box was just built to the correct airspace, this isn't one designed by Wet Sounds. Justin told me once before to check with Guyver if we wanted to do something different to fit tighter spaces. I never did, but it's probably a good idea.

John it looks great! I too have an Centurion Avy, so I am wondering about the psecs also. How does it sound?

I think this box sounds a little better than the one with a triangular port that WS recommends, but that's just me. The bottom of the box looks crooked, but what we did was build the box, then since the floor steps up half way across, we just built it up on the bottom so it would sit level.

Thanks for the props!

Hyperlite, the 23LSV just arrived at my shop today. I haven't gotten the panel out yet under the helm, but when I do I'll post up some pics for you. Hopefully the enclosure will be built by this weekend.

John keep me posted on that 23lsv install I'm about to stuff a sub in my 23 under the dash. Let me know what you think will work good for size, shape, etc... Thanks.

A Keen Observer posted “The Bravox audio sub is actually BETTER than the wetsounds sub!”, stating that’s its more sensitive. This is a meaningless unqualified specification, especially when applied to subwoofers. Sensitivity measures the peak output at one watt at one meter. The peak output is outside the bandwidth for which the speaker is designed. How a subwoofer performs at 500hz at one watt has zero correlation to how it performs at 50hz at one hundred watts.
You cannot improve one parameter without sacrificing another so what was compromised to achieve the extra sensitivity? For example, higher S.P.L. is usually accompanied by a loss in low-end extension and a loss in linearity. Short wound voice coils may yield higher sensitivity at one watt but will limit controlled excursions at high power levels as compared to longer wound voice coils. Which of these attributes are more important?

sub is crazy, hits hard very impressed, thought i had a problem with the speaker when i fired it up. heard a clapping sound and didnt know what it was. so i shut it down for the night at 9:00 pm. got up in the morning and looked everything over and found out it was my dash bouncing and hitting the windshield. so i took the windshield off and put some screws in the dash were the dash meets the windshield. installed some 1/8" foam like a weatherstripping on the windshield and put it all back together and walla sounds amazing. kept all 3-12" in the boat for a more rounded feeling with 2 of them being sealed and one being slot ported.
