I have a Chaparral IO with a mercruiser Alpha I generation II outdrive.

I am trying to seperate the lower unit from the upper unit so that I can change the impeller. I have all the bolts out (two on each sides and one infront and one in the hole in the rear that holds the trim tab in place). I have also removed the speedometer pickup tube on the forward end of the drive.

I cannot get the two units to seperate, I have carefully used a deadblow hammer on the hydrofoil that is attached to the lower drive unit with no success. I have the throttle in the forward position as directed and still no luck.

It will not budge at all, please give me some advice, do I need a bigger hammer?????

there should be a bolt that you get from underneath where the hydrofoil is mounted in front of the trim tab
