A Big or a Small Boat

I was reading the thread about the 25LSV for sale and ended reading leo lasecki's comment that smaller boats are more fun to wakeboard behind. I personally agree with him, but i was wondering your take on it. If someone offered you a free boat and you had chose between a big boat (X80, X45, 24LSV, 236, ect..) or a smaller boat (X1, 210, VLX, ect...)what would you choose and why?
BTW The point of the thread is to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of owning a larger or a smaller boat. Please don't let this turn into a Company X vs. Company Y thread.

i'd take the x80 and sell it... lame answer, i know.

they make the X-star that size for a reason!! it depends on what you are going to use the boat for the majority of the time??!

I'm with onlyinboards and the x-80. If you want to give me something I want the most expensive thing I can have for free.

I would take the Malibu 247...I would just have to either find more friends or buy more fat sacks

I would choose an X-Star. At just over 22', that would be my ideal size wake boat. I just recently sold my '05 X-2, and although the wake was awesome, I wish I had a little more room in it and wish it handled the chop a little better. I rode behind a 24' Malibu (247 I think), and although the wake was nice, it just seemed like a small ship out on the water, like it would be a difficult boat on the private lake I ride on. Oh, and not being brand biased, just answering your question in my best opinion.

I really have no need for a large boat. I would take a smaller one because they are easier on gas, take less weight,and handle better.

I never go out with more than 6 people and can not see the advantage of having a large boat for the people I go out with.

X80 STS for me please.

ENZO SV240 for me. I have to have a awesome surf wake.

I got an 07 Enzo 216 it is a foot longer and almost a foot wider than my Cyclone and weighs 1000 pounds more. With the 330 hp scorpion engine it is slower on the top end by a mile or 2 and slower out of the hull. So you will burn more gas while you are boarding and while you are towing the boat. That would apply to any brand of boat

If I was single.. the bigger boat. Married though so I'll take the smaller one.

I'd take the smaller one like the one I have (Wakecraft) because I dont always board. I ski, board, surf and at 21 feet we can have plenty of friends or family (12) and all wakes above average for their respective water sport. Also easier to manage, tow, gas, insurance etc.

Something made to wakeboard would be my choice, today those boats are still huge...
X-star/SAN 220/Epic Wakeboard -- those would be my choice(s)

I agree with Kevin - small is better and the small boats have the room anyway - at least most of them do. A 23 foot supreme sits 12, a centurion 22 avalanche seats 10, while my 21 seats 13. If it's free, I'll take the x80, only because I need a cruiser or a monster wakesurf boat, otherwise I'll be on the shorter boat.

I would opt for the 21-22 foot boats. Easier to handle, easier wakes to 'build' and shape, less thirsty on the petro. I almost never feel cramped on the smaller wakeboats and riding with 8 or more other wakeboarders doesn't appeal to me.

After owning a 23LSV for my first boat, this was my theory too. My second boat was an 05 X2 (X1). I found the above to be true, however, when the bigger boats are loaded down with a little more weight, the wake is far more user friendly and meatier. The small boat wakes are more sensitive to weight, wind, rollers, current, etc..

Don't forget to look and see what sitting in your driveway as well. That X-80 will look great sitting in front of your house if you don't have or can't afford something to pull it with...although it might be worth the payment to pick up that nice big diesel.

Small boats cost less to feed and maintain. I have a strong crew of dawn patrollers. If we have more than five, were using two boats anyhow.

would get a boat in the 22-23' foot range that has a narrower beam(96-98 inches).
1) still can have lots of people on the boat
2) Narrower wakeboard wake which means a longer rope length and a more user friendly wake at 60'.
3)Less weight to sink it.
