First off Hi everyone....

Just bought my first boat and it was used and just have a couple questions if someone can help:

1.) when im going straight at the lake and let go of the steering wheel it veers to the right...is this normal?

2.) also somehow the boat seems to lean toward the right also and steering is not straight when boat is going straight.. dont know if boat has to do alignment like cars...

3.) what size is the build in ballast that comes with 2000 air warrior eclipse? 250 or 500.

4.) cant seem to get enough wake with just the ballast ...would after market sacs help and is it worth it...wake looks highest around 21-22 rpm.... and mph really fluctuates...

Any help is greatly appreciated.

1. This is kind of normal. You can grind the rudder on the opposite side to make the steering more "neutral"

2. The boats will lean easier because of the deep v carried throughout the whole hull. More than likely, the steering cable was changed and the wheel is off center. Pop the wheel off and align it at your most common traveled speed. If you set it at 20 mph, most likely, it will be off again at say 36 mph because there is more load on the rudder.

3. if it has one tank, it is 250 pounds. Each additional tank is 250.

4. Add fat sacks for more weight.

Watching my cards go one up on the tigers

I had to Eclipse they are slalom boats. So they always had a pull to the right. Jason is right any inboard or Vdrive that is pulling can be adjusted with a grinder.

does your speedo not work??

Jason is right about everything except the V the eclispe is flat as a board acros the back. Centurions usualy require more weight on the passenger side to clean up the wake side.

To make the wake bigger you will have to sac it down put weight on both sides of the engine and some up front.

Now there has to be somether BETTER but is escapes me

Naych, most Centurions have preloaded steering for straighter pulls. Thus pulling the boat to the right if you let go of the steering wheel as your speed increases, it's normal.
Also, does the boat lean at speed or just when your sitting in the water, or both. The first thing I would do is make sure all the weight in the boat is balanced, passengers, gear, etc... If that doesn't work, try replacing your prop, it may be worn.
I would also replace the speedometer padddle wheel under the boat, that is probably the reason for the fluctuating speedo.
From my experiences with an 02' Hurricane (Elite hull), these boats need a lot of weight front and back to get a decent size wake. I'm pretty sure the Eclipse hull was strictly a ski boat, but it should throw something decent with lots of weight.
Hope that helps. Maybe Kevin Baugh will chime in here. I think he would know a lot more on this exact boat.
Oh yeah, Jonny, you're not funny.

Sorry Kevin, we must have posted at the same time. You beat me to the post!

Thank you guys...greatly appreciated with all the responce. answering some questions:

when boat is sitting it is straight just lean at speed.

last owner showed new prop about 1 year ago and it looks decent.

Now how about my steering column not being straight when boat is going straight. And how do I know if i got 2 sacs or only 1 cause dealer does not know.... And one last question ...I saw water at the rear of the engine..is that pretty normal cause when i ask dealer that say when i run bilge pump there shouldt be that much water in there but how much is too many. Thanks again

Back in 2000 there was a eclipse and an eclipse V drive. Is your engine in the back?? Inboards & V drives naturally leak a small amount of water around the drive shaft this keeps it lubricated. So yes it is not unusual to have a small amount of water in the boat.

You have one ballast tank if it is a V drive it is under the floor right in front of the engine. If it is the direct drive it is in the back on top of the gas tank.

I doubt if you have a problem with the prop. The engine torque naturally wants the boat to lean to the right. You should compensate for this with more weight on the passenger side.

You can fix the steering thing pretty easy when you are on the water driving the boat take note of how far off the wheel is when then stop take the wheel off turn it the amount it was off put it back on.

I have a 2000 centurion. No sacs, but goes to right and the right wake is bigger than the left. i put two sacs in the back, one off to the left a little and it evens out the wake perfect!

Hi all,

Havent try to remove steering column cause dont have any idea how but dont want to grind any rudders cause i dont know what that is also...Funny thing is that when we were out of the water and i was chekcing out the fin ..when the steering wheel is straight, so is the fin...so i am lost guys..i would of thought that it wouldnt be straight since steering was off in water. Do i need a special column puller to take out steering.. that is really my main problem since everyone says that pulling right is normal and just needs to add weight to even out the wake.

On a side note ..what kind of sac can i use to get more weight.. and is drilling hole in boat necessary to get water line for the sac.. trying to do the easiest thing cause not mechanically incline at all.

thanks,

Naych

well can come off differently but they usually are just held on my a nut that is under the plastic piece that is in the center of the wheel.
No special tools required. You will be taking of the wheel not the column
