Hey just wondering if anyone has installed a dual battery system on a mastercraft 01 x star or something similar....I am thinking about doing one this spring and was wondering what problems people have had and where they placed the other battery and everything

If you add the battery just add it right next to the stock one if yours is under the passenger seat. On my 00 san battery was in the back so I put the new one on the opposite side of the engine. I used long prefab cables and hooked positive to positive and negative to negative to keep voltage at 12. Not sure if that is series or parallel. I had no perko switch and the alternator kept them both charged. I ran two amplifiers off this setup and rocked it pretty hard. I had it this way for five years and alternator was stock.

If you are looking to upgrade your batteries, you should check out www.4xsbattery.com. I've got 2 D3100's running 2 Wetsounds Syn4's and a Wetsounds Syn1. Those batteries got me through last season without fail.

Mikey, what do you want to spend? How many amps and watts is your system? How old is your current battery and where is it located?

I have a 99 X-star and am kinda curious as well. I don't have much storage space left and what I think would be really trick and easy is to sink in another batt right next to the stock location under the passenger seat, fiberglass resin it in, and place a battery box similar to the stock one there.

I'm a bit fearful that I might encounter something more solid under the floor than foam (like a stringer). Anyone have any ideas on how to determine that before cutting up the carpet and floor....short of X-ray or ultrasound???

I went with a Blue Seas Automatic Charge Relay:
Guide to Automatic Charging Relays

Good reading at The Official Dual Battery Thread

Hope that helps on some of the wiring questions.
