Absence makes the heart grow fonder...

Props all around to those who made the 2005 "New Jersey Riders" thread the most prolific in the history of WakeWorld. New friends were brought together, many great times were had, memories made, and at times sadness shared among this group of wakeboarding loyalists. But above all, the tone was kept positive throughout, reflecting what a great group of wake junkies we have here in our little hidden utopia of the wakeboarding scene.

Which brings me back to to my opening sentence. As the Jersey (and surrounding area) crews will tell you, today was a miserably cold day here in Jersey, a day when the snow doesn't fall from high to low, but instead travels horizontally from left to right, never resting for more than a second, until the next 45 mile an hour gust kicks it skyward again to its next brief destination.

Of course, the snowboarding hills are only 90 miles an hour from here, so it really doesn't suck all THAT bad, but you get my drift.

That being said, I know I've thought about my next chance to wakeboard many times today, as I do every single day. April seems like a reasonable timetable for that to happen, but of course I'll need to mooch a pull off of Eustance or Alex Kinon to make that dream a reality.

Of course I could buck up and buy myself a boat and make sure I get that April ride, but if you didn't know, this stay-at-home daddy gig I have in the winter doesn't pay all that well. But it IS a hell of a lot of fun!

Back to my point at hand. Looking at the continuing number if postings, it seems that there are plenty of dedicated riders in this area equally afflicted with the fever to ride. No one is any closer than me to riding, at least not around here, but it is still at the forefront of many people's minds. Postings still come fast and furious. You gotta love it.

If I may continue to soapbox for a minute, I think it's our forced departure from our passion that keeps the drive alive. And it's certainly not limited to this Jersey crew. How many people out there have photos of wakeboarding in a prominent location around the house, to inspire the quick mental retreat to a better warm and watery place? Who has their board still out and about even though the ground is a frozen tundra? And I'm sure there are a few people who've even gone and hooked their handle up to a doorknob in preparation to stick that elusive move in the '06 season.

Wakeboarding in a place like New Jersey is hardly a "jump in and go" proposition, even in the heart of summer months. Sure, some have the luxury of keeping their boats right out back for that after work session, but for most a wakeboarding session consists of prepping your gear, towing a boat, dropping at the ramp, only to do it all again in reverse order at the end of the day. And even if you don't have this "to do" list to get wet, the five-month season always seems to end just after it got started.

But it's this perserverance that makes every session a great one. We all had a crappy session back in the season of '05. But would I take that crappy session tomorrow if I could ride within 50 miles of where I'm sitting right now? Hell yeah I would.

And so would many of you.

Welcome to the 2006 season, Jersey riders. Let's keep the vibe rolling and hell, maybe we'll even get that New Jersey Riders summit, now 4 years in the making, done this time around!

And remember, it's only 3 months 'til we can get wet...

Mr. Barton, 9* with a chill of -20 to 25 accompanied by the Gusts...I feel the pain..April can't come soon enough but enjoy the slopes in the mean time. NJ riders, Great thread in the past, present and for the future...

Oh man. Some serious words of reflexion and inspiration from our very own Reverend Barton.
Hey! Somebody give that guy a job in journalism!
For me, JB's words totally capture the New Jersey wakeboarding experience and make me proud to
be a part of it! And I'll admit it...I've totally taken my wakeboard out in dead Winter and just
held it, looked at it and smelled the bindings while watching tv. Yeah, I'm kind of wakeboard mental,
but I think everyone who's met me and gotten to know me already knows that.

So this is it crew; JB has thrown the 2006 season's green flag. I'm psyched and ready to go. Is everyone else?

Ah yes! JB you are defiantly gifted with the pen. We have all been waiting for this thread.

This season is going to be great and this is the year we pull off the first annual Jersey Riders on water get together.

Here is what Iíve dreamed up so far~

The date: Saturday JUNE 3rd with a rain date of JUNE 17th shoving off sometime around 10 AM.
The place: The Beautiful Delaware River.
The boats: Dave, Woody, George, Elo, and Mine.. Alex, Kevin, and Jim itís totally up to you if you guys want to bring your boats (although you would have plenty of deep water to run in Alex) or if you want to ride with one of the river crews.

ĎPlease excuse if I missed anyone who wants to add their boat to the collection.

I am little stumped on what to do for an after gathering, my first thought was to stay one the water and raft up in the lagoon or use the sandbar (Tide depending of course).

Katmandu is an option: but Iím not sure about how kid friendly that place would be or leaving that much hardware parked in the lot outside.

Annette and I gladly offer up our shack, but it is about 45 minutes in the opposite direction of where most of you need to get back too.

Thoughts / ideas?

JB, Great start-up to an even greater thread!
You do have a way with a keyboard (and wakeboard!)

Alex, Psyched and ready? YOU BET!!!

Eustace, I like all the above ideas for the on-the-water get together. Here's some more to add:

There is a deli (ELO's workplace) a short walk from the Florence ramp. Someone could grab a bunch of subs and bring them out to our raft-up or sanbar party.

Katmandu has dock space by the ballpark. It would be safer than leaving the boats in their lot.

Curtin's Wharf has an outdoor deck with great food and drink. They have dock space, too. (I can just picture a posse of 4 wakeboard boats tied-up there!)

BTW, I love the logo! Put that on a sticker and I'll buy some for the truck and boat!

Wow, I must say that JB has a way with words..Nice post, glad to see the '06 NJ Riders thread is here..I'm going to miss the old thread, I was waiting to see it hit 1,000 posts..

Both Michele and I are looking forward to the upcoming season! As we were snowboarding yesterday, we talked about how much we are looking forward to getting in the water and progressing even more than last season..I think about the warm weather, sitting on the boat relaxing and chatting with good friends, basking in the sun, and watching everyone board! Oh and lets not forget the adult beverages!

I can't wait for the Spring air to come, but I also don't mind the winter's snow. I have snowboarding to keep me in the flow, however I know some of you don't. Spring is coming, I can't believe it's already Jan. 17th! Unreal!

Eustace, have you gotten to use that snowskate yet?
Old     (eustace)      Join Date: Nov 2002       01-17-2006, 5:29 PM Reply
Dave great input, I think Curtinís is probably a better spot. My thought was to use the Trenton ramp (Its free, easy to get to, and has plenty of parking) since it seems like the best riding is between the ramp and the lagoon across from the steel mill. How much further south is Curtinís from the lagoon 10 min 20 min?

Thanks I have someone working on the stickers already. Also thanks to Jim for ripping off your template and JB for using your likeness,,,,, ha ha ha!

Justin, I have not had a chance to use that thing yet, other then sticking a couple of shove-its in the living room.

Here is a link to Curtinís;
Old     (njskier)      Join Date: Jul 2005       01-17-2006, 7:11 PM Reply

Curtin is just south of the steel mill, maybe 10 mins. It's a cool place to hang-out, eat, drink but also kid friendly! Lots of families go there for lunch/dinner. In the past, I would launch my boat from there (Burlington.)
This year I may launch out of Bordentown or Florence to avoid the chaos at Trenton. They both put you right where you want to ride. I think the ramp pass is $50-75 for the year. It's worth it not to wait in line while the weekend wallys load and unload their stuff! Trenton ramp is very comical at times, though!
Can't wait to get out there and ride again! Should be a great year for all, especially the kids (everyones.) Love to see their faces when they learn new things. (Jim's face after going W2W is similar)

Before I tow any where this season I have to repair/replace my trailer brakes. On the last few tows
last season I could totally tell that they were no longer working. Once the boat is back in the water and
off the trailer this April fixing the brakes is going
to be task number one. Any of you guys have any experience with trailer brakes? I haven't done any
sort of a brake job in like a million years. I'm thinking about bringing it some where and just letting
some marine place do the job, but on the other hand I feel like it's something I really should be doing
myself. I just don't know how! Any tips? Any suggestions? What do you think men?
Trailer Brake Drum
Old     (eustace)      Join Date: Nov 2002       01-18-2006, 7:25 AM Reply
Alex, I have a little experience with brakes. Are the brakes on your trailer electric or hydraulic surge brakes? Drum or disk?

The electric drum type are not too bad, you can purchase the entire assembly (like it the picture you posted) which bolts to the axle and then itís a matter of splicing the wires cut from the old assembly. If this is the type you have, you will also need to make sure your brake controller inside the vehicle is properly adjusted, on it should be two settings one is a level to compensate for the angle of how the unit is mounted, the other is the Gain which sets the proportion of trailer brake applied as related to the amount of vehicle brake.

Hydraulic surge brakes work best, but tend to become a bit more involved when in need of repair IMO. On this type you have an actuator, master cylinder, lockout solenoid, and the brake assembly all of which can cause you problems.

Your boat stays in the water most of the season? So I will assume you trailer sits most of the time. In this case it may be a matter of cleaning up and lubricating the existing equipment.

Check out this place thy have some good Technical articles and all the parts you could need.
Old     (nj_alex)      Join Date: Aug 2002       01-18-2006, 7:39 AM Reply
I have the hydraulic surge style brakes. The piston actuator in the coupler looks to be in good shape.
Plus I checked the brake fluid level and that too seems to be at a level within acceptable operating parameters.
I think the inner workings of the drum brakes are probably all seized together from being dipped in the salt
water and then just lying there to corrode. Once the boat is in the water and the trailer is free I'm going
to have to get the trailer up on jack stands or cinder blocks, remove the tires and pull everything
apart. Oh man. Just thinking about this makes me nervous. Maybe I'll just bring it to some local guy.
Old     (njskier)      Join Date: Jul 2005       01-18-2006, 6:19 PM Reply

I think there is a boat trailer dealer in PT. Pleasant (Loadrite) They could help you out. Sorry I don't know the name of the place.

They most likely need a good cleaning and lube.

Who needs brakes on a trailer?! Full speed ahead!

Campgaw Mountain has to be the world's smallest snowboarding hill, but there is one jump at the bottom that can make the 23 second descent worth your while. My brother-in-law lives right around the corner from there, so next time you plan on going let me know and I'll try to rally the troops.

Eustace, I am fully committed to your prospective date of June 3rd! 5 months lead time may be exactlye what we need to make this come together. As the date approaches let me know what I can do to help with arrangements. If there's any landside scouting that needs to be done, let me know and I'm on it.
And secondly, I'm stoked to have my image on the "Jersey Riders" icon!

Justin, where have you and Michelle been riding? Blue Mountain? I've been heading up there tuesday nights and thursday afternoons, so if we can hook up let me know.

Oh and Dave, Bordentown's ramp pass for the year is $100, that's where Michele's dad launches from, and we purchased it for him for his bday last year...Just an FYI..

Where's Jim been?

Nicely put Jeff. Its good that we now have a new short forum, but I'm gonna miss the old guyThe other one kinda reminded me of my boxer shorts. They get holes in them and my wife buys new ones and insists that I throw the old ones away but they hold so much sentimental value that I hate to part with them. Plus they are really comfortable.

Anyway I'm still around, I've just been really busy build and fixing computers for friends. In the last 3 weeks I have built 4 and repaired 2. One of the 4 is my new ultimate gaming machine. I am a big online Call Of Duty2 and Battlefield2 junky. My wife is getting worried about me. I now have 4 computers up and running and online at my house. After I'm done tricking out my new one I'll post a pic.

Yes winter sucks big time. I can't wait till spring. I miss all the excitement in the posts as the weekend approaches in the summer time.

The river jam is gonna be cool. We have to pull it off! I like the idea of a raft up afterward around a sand bar and eating some sandwiches.

I play cod2 online everyday Jim and I think it's the best game out. All this talk of wakeboarding has got me jonesing for a pull. I just got a slip at ross marina today and I'm ready to go. This year the VLX is going to have a 3000LBS. ballast system.

hmm, dave williams erased my WHOLE post...oh well!

anyways as i said before, JB, michele and i have been hitting up blue mtn mostly, we went to killington for 5 days the end of dec., and went to camelback because a guy i know is on ski patrol so he gets us passes for F-R-E-E!!! so far i have 9 days in, which is 9 more than last yr, but i want MORE! my sister lives in bethlehem, pa, so we hit up blue most of the time, and i like that mtn better than the others..

anytime you want to shred let me know..i'm currently unemployed, so a tuesday or thursday would be awesome, next tuesday is bad for me though.. i think it'd be awesome to hit the slopes with ya..

my cell is 609-694-6205, give me a call the next time you're going and i'll see if i'm busy, most likely not..however, without any snow and warm temps in the forecast, the conditions are CRAP!!

i'm moving out west!

a NEW thread....YEAH!!!!! I for one am looking forward to this season! while the boarding sucked in the carribbean, it got my addiction growing again! (see the other thread for more details)

Brian, June 3rd sounds good to me! With that many boats...there's no need for me to bring one too! The tie-up/raft idea was one we tossed around last summer, so it sounds good again!

Alex, if you need help with the brakes, just ask!

Justin...I know what your doing Tuesday!!!

And I just booked my travel for a 3 day snowboarding trip to Copper Mountain, Colorado! NEver been there before, so if anybody has any info to share, offer it up!

Nice Work, KG!

Sorry Jeff, can't make it, Michele and I are heading up to KG's to board tomorrow at Hunter Mtn. for Kevin's b-day. Perhaps if you go up thursday we can shred, let me know.>Hopefully they didn't get too much of this rain, because yesterday's conditions were not too great, everything was skiied off by 12:30..We left @ 3:30pm, but on a tues. you should get in some good runs before it all gets skiied off..And they'll most likely blow some snow..

Have fun, let me know if you're going Thursday..

Oh man. It was 60ļ+ on Saturday, sunny, hardly any wind and the bay was flat and boatless.
I was so ready to dig-out the dry suit and go for a pull right smack through the middle bay, but when
I went to go get the boat ready I found this...

Yep, my little monarch is still in its cocoon with no metamorphic emergence in sight for at least
another three months. You know, with the east meets west shoot-out on June 3, at best that only gives
me about a month of cold water riding to not only learn how to ride again, but to hopefully learn
some new moves! Oh man. The pressure's on!

It's really great to see how active this thread is already, and it's only January! We even have Gosia checking-in!

Kevin: Nice work with wakescene. Do you really want suggestions? I could totally email you some.
Do I need help with the trailer brakes? Yes, thanks for the offer, but I may just bring it some place
instead of getting my hands greasy and busting-up my knuckles.

Dave: There's a trailer place directly across the street from Surf & Offshore. Is that the place
you're talking about? I may just find a local Manahawkin/LBI place anyway though.

Wing Bowl Brian? Where's the wing bowl? I love wings!

It's Doreen's birthday this Saunday (Jan 29). We may go roller skating! Doreen's an ace roller skater.
I was thinking about a 60 Sylvia party Saturday night, but I never really put it together.

Are you going to be ready for late-April / early May frosty water riding JB?
Old     (summerryder)      Join Date: Apr 2004       01-25-2006, 6:36 AM Reply
May will be perfect. I may get medical clearance by then.
I had a trmendously hard fall snowboarding yesterday, and have come away the worse for wear. The doctors in the emergency room said they'd only seen one collarbone more severly broken than mine. I find out tomorrow if surgery is in order.

But at least I'll have more time to help plan the East/West summit!!

Old     (newmy79)      Join Date: Jun 2005       01-25-2006, 9:30 AM Reply
Hmm, I def. want to know what skillmatic trick you were trying to pull off JB to break your collarbone (plz tell me you didn't try that kicker in the middle of Upper Sidewinder before the Wall)? Sorry to hear that the ol' Blue Mtn took you for a whirl..How long is the recovery? And what about that Copper Mtn trip?

KG, Karen, Michele and I had a great time boarding @ Hunter yesterday, good snow in the morning, and of course later in the day it was skiied off..I was unimpressed with their parks, one was closed, and the other had 1 kicker, 3 boarder-cross burms (boring(, and then the halfpipe (which I suck at)I couldn't land anything anyway, it was a weird day for me..There's a lot of Black Diamonds on that mountain, and Hunter One which has most of the Blues was closed, so go figure!

All in all it was a good day..Where's the snow storms though? I'm tired of falling on ice!

Ah yes Alex!, the Wing BowlÖ.. Next to the Liberty Bell and Tony-Lukeís this is Phillyís stand out attraction, kind of our own Mardi Gras.. Since our football team only makes it to the Super Bowl every 25 years or so, some folks started this spectacle a while back to give us something to look forward to.

JB, bummer about the injury, but I can defiantly use the help getting the east meets west off the ground.

On another note, any of you golf? And or have the interest in getting out, say late March / April?

Happy B-day in advance Doreen!

on a related note...yes Justin, Michelle, Karen and yours truly hit hunter Mtn for a little boarding, sno-sytle! For not having been on a snowboard since before I broke my leg in 2003, I'd say I did ok. I got a few twisty-tumbles under my wing, but hey it was worth it! (thank-god for the padded pants)

I am getting excited for the 3rd...but it's still a few months away!

I don't know much about them, but you could give them a try. Are you sure your brakes don't work?
Try backing up without the lights plugged in. The brakes should activate that way (at least that's how the MC trailers work)

Golf?? If there aren't obstacles on the putting green (windmills, open-mouthed clowns, giant top hats or
rockets) you can pretty much count me out of the golf loop. But golfers roast cigars though, right?

JB man, I'm sorry to learn of your snowboarding misfortune. Just as Kevin offered, if there's anything
you need us to do to help you out or to raise your spirits, just let us know. Should we all just show-up
at your house on Super Bowl Sunday wearing wet suits, multi-color clown wigs and spackling stilts?

Dave: I'm totally sure the trailer breaks are no longer operating. I used to totally feel them engage
when I braked. The trailer would actually slow faster than the van and I'd feel the resistance between
the two. This past summer that no longer happened. Instead of the trailer slowing the van when
I breaked, it would push the van. It wasn't a comforting feeling. Kevin said I should try hitting
the brakes hard with the trailer empty, and if the trailer breaks are working the tires should lock-up
and bounce and skid all over the place. I tried that. Nothing happened. There's plenty of brake fluid
in the master cylinder and the activating piston in the coupler appears funtional. I think the inner
working of the drums are just all gummed-up and seized in there from the evil salt water.

I don't see Jim's Mulica River secret spot or JB's Rancocas River stretch of butter on KG's map!

JB, sorry to hear about your injury. That's a shame! Where do you put in on Rancocas? I haven't been there in a long time...

Alex, if you want to get together for Doreen's birthday we should be able to make it. At least I don't think Justin has anything specific planned as of now anyway. I know it's pretty last minute. Just let us know!

I've been grandfathered, NICE! ...and I'm not even a dad yet

Hey this is turing into a neat was the right question to ask and the timing is perfect, I might start working on integrating some of this.

Gosia, I will put that together and we can start gathering information to post.

Hey...I'm in Toronto by the way...Chilly up here, it was 10degrees at 9 this morning...Home tonight though, Yea!

Last minute birthday gathering at 60 Sylvia? Sounds good to me! Michele, if you and Justin want to
cruise over on Saturday for some pizza, wings, beers and some casual hanging out, come on! Doreen,
Connor and I will be at the house all weekend. And if anyone else wants to come, come on! I spoke with
Doreen about this and she thinks it sounds like fun. She just wants it to be really casual and she doesn't
want ANY birthday presents. Friends coming over to hang-out and talk wakeboarding will be present enough.
KG, Brian, Gosia, Dave, Jeffrey Z, Jim; if any of you feel like taking a long drive to sit in a small
house and talk wakeboarding, come on over! Of course, you're invited too JB, but you still might be
a little too banged-up for a road trip. And if everyone has plans already or if hanging
at 60 Sylvia just really isn't what you feel like doing this Saturday, don't sweat it. Up until Michele's
post we weren't really planning-on doing anything special anyway. So any hoo, if you're in, let me know.
Everyone here has my cell phone number, right?

Of course, spouses, significant others and kids can come too!

Alex and Doreen,

Thanks for the invite, but saturday we're going to NYC for my cousins' twins birthday party. Wish us luck, the kids are 3! (Should be quite a spectacle with all these 3 year olds running around!) My daughter turns 3 in April.
(Maybe I'll get her to ride on my board this summer while standing between my feet!)

My daughter has a 8:55 pm soccer game on Saturday night so I'm out.

This new thread is on fire and making me go crazy for the spring. I don't think I'm gonna be able to wait much longer.

I'm taking my wife and kids snowtubing on Feb. 6th at Big Boulder if anyone is interested in meeting up for some tubing. It's not wakeboarding or snowboarding but it's what the family wants to do so we're doing it. Its always fun just not as fun as wakeboarding.

Last nights Flyers game sucked, but the seats were awsome. We had leather couches in our suit.

Yes, happy birth day Doreen.

Alex, thank you for the invite. I've got a we-wish-it-was-summer-already party to go to. Firing up the grill and turning up the heat to 80+. All are welcome ... it's in Toms River. There will be much wakeboarding-related discussion here as well.

You can definitely count us in for Saturday...let us know what you need us to bring. Perhaps I will bake some cookies or brownies. I bet that will be great for your "Fat Boy Meltdown" Pizza...hmm...Will this be the day we finally get to see you consume a whole pizza pie?
Old     (nj_alex)      Join Date: Aug 2002       01-27-2006, 2:37 PM Reply
Ok Michele, great! We'll see you and Justin on Saturday. I've been really trying to stay on the round boy
meltdown program. Do you really want to see me eat an entire pizza? Doreen hates when I do that. But hey!
It's Doreen's birthday! That's a good reason to eat big, right?
Give us call on Saturday and let us know when you'll be rolling in. It'll be a fun time!

Alex & Doreen, Hanging out for Doreenís b-day sounds like a great time and we appreciate the invitation but we have a prior engagement for tomorrow night..

Justin, golfing is a must, we can work out the details when it looks like weíre going to get a decent break in the weather. Alex if you have never tried it, consider giving it a go. Iím awful at the game but I always manage to have a great time and yes, no round of golf is complete with out a cigar and cordials.

I think Iím down a pound so far,,,, look out!

Yes, it was a fun night hanging-out, eating, working the Indo board and watching wakeboarding videos.
We even test fitted a couple of selections from the Turtle Cove Crew Spring 2006 collection:
Another Hat

We took lots of oter pictures, but after looking through them all, I've already posted the best two.

I guess now the next off-season gathering will be next week's Atlantic City boat Show. Is there going to
be any structure to this or do we just go down there shotgun and wing it with cell phones?
Old     (wakescene)      Join Date: Feb 2001       01-29-2006, 11:03 PM Reply
*cough* I need a hat!

Old     (nj_alex)      Join Date: Aug 2002       01-30-2006, 7:05 AM Reply
Karen and yourself are charter members of the 609TCC KG! I'll bring your hats to the boat show. They'll
be like the ones Michele & Justin are wearing. The second picture is a one-of-a-kind that Doreen had made
for me for Christmas. It's funny... We were both having 609TCC hats made without discussing it with each
other. Still, our word choices and hat colors ended-up being very similar!

On another note, Doreen, Connor and I went roller skating for Doreen's birthday. I'll tell you, roller
skating is quite a stimulating leg and cardio work out. I was totally sweating and puffing, and it was
way more fun than the treadmill.

Tell Doreen I send belated birthday best wishes. While I appreciated the invite, I've been laying low the last few days.

What day is everyone headed to the Boat show? I may try to make my way down there, busted wing and all.

Hey JB: I'll surely pass-along your birthday well-wishes to Doreen.

As far as I know we're supposed to be meeting at the AC boat show on Saturday. Exactly who's going and
exactly where and when we're meeting still seems somewhat uncertain.

Justin, here it is:
I was just done going through the boardercross course and was going over the two speed bumps and the table top right before you enter the lower park. As I was coming down the tabletop with a lot of speed, I went to check up and slow down. But when my board came down the transition to the flat ground, my front edge caught and I got turbo mousetrapped right onto my face and shoulder.

I knew immediately that I had badly hurt myself, but now I had two problems: my injury and how to get my kids, who were in the main lodge daycare facility at the mountain, back home.

So I used one hand to get myself up, rode to the bottom high speed chair lift, took it up to the top, then had to ride all the way across the hill to the main lodge. I had to ask someone to undo my bindings since I couldn't reach down, walked painfully to the car, inch by inch, then pulled around to the main entrance and asked the daycare staff to load my kids into their carseats for me. From there I drove the two hours home and went straight to the emergency room.

I should have gone to the mountain medical center but I had to get the kids home on my own. My wife was not a fan of me taking the kids to the hill, always citing "what if you get hurt?" which I always said wouldn't happen. If she had to drive all the way there to get the kids, she'd have kicked my ass. I'm getting enough "tough love" as it is from this, but that would have raised things to defcon 4 for sure.

And that's my story.

I think we should choose a specific time and a specific spot at the convention center, this will make it easiest for everyone to judge driving and parking etc!
*My vote is for 11:30am at the booth you get your tickets at! I don't know where this is, but we all have to find it...

I also wanted to remind everyone of a topic we had hit on the original thread which was...
- The Idea of a house Boat trip to Raystown lake sometime this summer. Dave(njskier) has some knowledge of this type of trip, so his input is valued and greatly appreciated.

thoughts...comments...flames...Bring it on!

Suddenly Doreen and my attendance at the boat show is uncertain. As soon as we get things sorted-out
I'll post our plans. I was hoping to get there at 10:00am when the doors open and thus be able to catch
Twiggy's 11:00am session, but again, everything has suddenly become uncertain.

Intense story JB. Intense and admirable. In a crisis situation both your parental instincts and your
self-preservation instincts simutaneously kicked-in. Well done. And I can totally relate to going to
great lengths to avoid a domestic ass kicking at the defcon 4 level! Again, well done.

Yea Jeff I gotta say, it was painful just reading your story. Very admirable.

In regards to the AC Boatshow, I really hope Alex that you and Doreen(& Conner) are able to make it. Hope your plans change for the better.
Karen and I are good to meet at the 11am Twiggy show! We are also looking forward to stopping at Wawa before hitting the road for some of that French Vanilla Cappaccino! That stuff is liquid candy! Yummmy.

Oh one more thing...where is everyone? Justin, Michele, Jim, Brian, Dave, Woody...

I'm here! I'll be at the boatshow, 11 am sounds good to meet-up at the "twiggy" show!

If anyone wants to talk more about the houseboat idea, let me know. I may not be able to convince my wife to go with our 3-year-old, but I'd be up for a long weekend of riding. My son would come for sure, so if we could split the houseboat cost 3-4 ways, it could be very economical.
The only days off you would need from work are friday-monday. July or August are the best months. If you haven't checked out the website yet, go to
Awesome fun if you've never tried it!

i'm back, had a few interviews this week it's been a little hectic..!! one more to go tomorrow..

JB, very sorry to hear about that, I know exactly where you're talking about, and it can get REALLY icey right at that spot, so sometimes edges don't mean #%^$# if ya know what i mean...I hope you have a speedy recovery, the first time i ever tried boarding i broke my collarbone, it def. hurts..i can't believe you got the kids home and then went to the ER..tough man!! i dont have kids or a wifey, but i can empathize with you on the a$$-kicking that prob. would have commenced..

Michele and I are heading up to Blue and JF this weekend after the twin's b-day party..hopefully they'll blow some snow inthe next few nights..

KG, so you finally did it huh? I am guessing that those interviews went well? Let us know the new career path..I actually had an interview today in Secaucus, went well..We'll see, I have 3 offers I'm weighing..

Sounds like everyone is going to have a great time at the boat show, someone please take lots of pics for michele and i since we can't make we can gawk over all the boats we can't afford..I actually saw that squirrel riding on the news last night, I was cracking up..Very cool!

LOST is on tonight!! YES!!!!

PS, LOST is a repeat tonight. I hate when they do that!

Hey All,

Sorry to say we will not make the boat show this weekend. This months social calendar has been nuts.

The houseboat trip at Raystown sounds like a blast, but all my vacation time is already slotted for this year and we also have Annetteís every other weekend work schedule. So that leaves me somewhere around slim for making the trip.

My God! what a downer I amÖ.

Kevin and Justin, best of luck in your career endeavors. Kevin what is the fate of the Mp3cdRoster-majig thing you where tied to?

Have a great time at the show all,, cant wait for the pics.

What's the official count for the AC boat show, besides KG, Karen and me? (Jim, Woody, George are you out there?)

Ok, Doreen and I have pretty-much ironed-out the kinks, and unless some other unforeseen problem rears its
ugly head we'll be hangin' at the 11:00am Twiggy show waitin' for the Jersey crew to assemble.

Doreen and I are totally up for the houseboat adventure; maybe Connor too depending upon the weekend.
I've thought about this, and instead of trying to tow the Super Air for 4Ĺ hours with the Astro Van, I'd
just rent a tow vehicle from Enterprise; like an Explorer or something. There's no way that I'm going to
spend a long weekend on a houseboat in some deep freshwater Pennsylvania lake without the Nautique.

I'm here. No boat show for me my weekend is packed with hockey game, Ultimate fihting, beer drinking, football watching and snow tubing Monday at Big Boulder.

As for the house boat, that would be a dream but I have 2 big dogs that need to be taken care of so a weekend away would be almost impossible for me.

Thanks for the link...luckily Justin and I have 5 passes each for Jack Frost/Big Boulder. Even though there's no way I will be competing, it will be an awesome event to watch!

Anyone else care to make Feb. 11th a snowboarding day trip? Alex? Doreen? KG? Karen? Dave? Dave? Brian? Jim?

Sounds like fun Michele, but I have to work on Saurday February 11. Plus, I'd hate to get all
and end-up in a body cast just as the 2006 wakeboarding season is about to get started!

Speaking of getting started, I've already made the appointment to have the Super Air unwinterized on
Saturday April 15. I wanted to have it done on April 1, but my mechanic is already booked-up through April 8.

Also, as I told Justin & Michele last Saturday night, for me this season is going to be focused on advance.
I plan to cut-back on the free riding and spend much more time learning new moves. Doreen already knows that
she's going to be spending a lot of time stopping, going and turning around and she's ok with it.
Toeside w2w, backrolls and 3s are first on my list. Anyone else have any goals for the upcoming season?
Old     (wakescene)      Join Date: Feb 2001       02-02-2006, 10:56 AM Reply
I am considering unwrapping the boat to get a little work done seeing as the weather has been so warm. I have a few little things I need to address before I can un-winterize...but at the speed were going (Feb 2, 2006 already) were gonna be on spring before we know it.

As far as advance/advancing...I am with Alex on this one. I do have 3 goals.
1. 3's! (I'll be wearing a helmet and crotch guard for a while during this practice period so no picking fun...ok well a little :-))
2. Toe-Side backroll/frontroll. I nearly have this but need some practice on the rotation.
3. Grab/tweak/grind everything! regular, switch sense in not enjoying the free-ride aspects as well!

Justin and I were toying with the idea of a FunBox in Turtle Cove...It's shallow, has a predictable depth etc...find some wood at a dump or construction site, some old floats ppl are throwin away and were set!

Island Surf & Sail has sort of a little slider park set-up in the middle of the bay near a small island.
As soon as we come out of Mill Creek onto the open bay we can see it to the south. All of ISS's sliders
are built on old windsurfing boards and are held in place with anchors. The marine police won't allow any
permanent structures to be built in the water, in the mud or on the shore line. Thus, any slider we want to
have in Turtle Cove will have to be towable. ISS's sliders are in super shallow water and are pretty-much
only used by ISS kiteboarding crew. If we (The 609TCC) had a decent PWC we could probably use the ISS
slider park from time to time when they're not out there giving lessons. There used to be a kicker in
one of Turtle Cove's back creeks, but for what ever reason it's no longer there. There's also an old dead
ISS slider laying in the Turtle Cove weeds, but it's totally old, crumbling and useless. You can see it
here in it's prime.

As far as wearing a helmet goes while learning new moves, no problem. I'll be doing the same. Let's go.
Let's push one another to the next level.

Finally, Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow today. Oh well. Six more weeks of Winter.
Old     (eustace)      Join Date: Nov 2002       02-02-2006, 7:29 PM Reply
Its funny you bring this up, I have been giving next season much thought. My goals are similar.

Iím weak on the toe side and I would like to learn an invert, tantrum / backroll, hopefully both.

Do any of you have The Book series? I was thinking about getting it.

Ha ha ha! I started wearing a helmet half way through last season, so Iím pretty much past the looking like a fool thingÖ.
