Here's the deal. I think that as I grow older I am beginning to fall apart. My knees can't take the pounding that wakeboarding provides. Life before wakeboarding was one that was spent....fishing....Something that I can do by myself. Here's my dilemma. I've got fishing fever, a buddy that I ride with that has a 2001 X-Star, and my 98 MC 190 that I used three times last year (and is paid for). I am thinking about trading/selling my boat and purchasing a Bullet so I can begin night fishing again-whenever I want-and continuing to ride with the X-star buddy. My 4 year old son says that he would rather have a fishing boat, and use the x-star as well. Help, someone get me to my senses-I need a wakeworld intervention. BTW-the Bullet i'm considering is a 21XD with a 225. (80+ mph)

you can fish off of a wake boat but it would suck to ride behind a fishing boat. Ride further out behind your current boat and don't land in the flats as much. Knee problem solved Yes, your losing your mind. your not too old.

WakinVol your 31. You are not old. Start running about 2 miles every other day and knee problem solved. It helped me. If you are married keep the wakeboat. If you are single keep the bass boat and fish or keep the wakeboat and pick up ladies.

If your knees are bugging you, I would avoid running. There are many other exercises that you can do to get into better shape. Bicycling, stairclimbers, ellipticals, etc, are low to no impact. Ask most ortho surgeons and they will tell you that running is hard on the knees, as well as back, etc.

Im 34 and Im having the same issue... old mans beat up body with a young mans drive to do some crazy tricks... If you have 100% access to the wakeboat (can't belive im saying this) trade in and get the fishing boat. Don't ever fish from your wake boat, thats bad juju. As for your knees, take time to stretch before and after your workout. There is a product out there called 'Glucocymine (Glue-Co-Si-Mean)' (sp?). It a vitamin for your joints. I don't know anything about the science behind it, but it made my knees (and fingers) feel better. Also, you need to exercise them. I would not advise running. Squats, leg press ect.

You can also eat Jell-O (throw the powder in water) Gelatin in Jell-o really helps out with your joints. Exrecise and streching is the key.

I gotta go with ccwhite. If you really do have 100% access to the X-star, sounds to me like you can enjoy two things for the price of one.

I guess it would depends to me on how good of a friend the X-star owner is! If you can truly have both and pay for just one (I 2nd ccwhite, "I can't believe i'm saying this" AND "squats, leq presses, stretching" and maybe even the glucocymine) then maybe you should trade in the 190. Sounds like you and your fam will enjoy the fishing rig more. I have to wonder if your 4-yr old knows what he is saying. In ten years, he will kick himself in the a$$ for that decision. But hey, maybe the X-star will still be a phone call away. Or maybe he'll be a fisherman instead of a rider. However, I also agree with Adam. If you land on the crest of 2nd wake, it wouldn't hurt your knees..

yeah, i dislocated a knee cap last year & since then i've been taking "glucosamine chondroitin". i believe its supposed to help lubricate the joints. whatever it does, it definitely helps.

If your age starts with a 3, you shouldn't be complaining out loud yet. I'm 40 (ok,43) and still play hard (I never said I was smart..) I up the dosage of my favorite pain killer when I'm done for the day, and suck it up...You'll feel better by the next trip, trust me....It ain't gonna get any better, so get it in while you can! As a side note, I too, hate structured exercise, so I go play more often to keep in shape for when I go play....more often... Your kids can always wheel you around later...

BEER, you need more of it. It wards off all those evils It lubricates everything! I'm 41 and everything I really like to do hurts now. Get over it, were old enough to drink now. I love fishing and it's a great "dock sport". You can toss a hook off anything that floats but now that you know a great wakeboat your spoiled.

Better living through chemistry- Pre-medicate with NSAIDs (Ibuprofen, Mobic, Naprosyn, etc.) to attenuate the inflammatory response. Vioxx and Celebrex are now off the market, but they were never proven to have any long-term benefit over the cheaper ones I listed anyway.

Access to the X-Star is unlimited. I've got an ignition key, and a key to the lock for the lift. Not an issue. The only thought about getting a bass boat is that is something that I can do myself. Sorta hard to pull ones-self if alone. (doesn't happen often, but when I get the urge to go to the water I'm going, with or without anyone else. My 4 year old doesn't drive very well yet!) As for my knees, I need something to re-generate cartilage. Years of basketball have taken their toll, not to mention the 235lbs that I carry around every day. Before I became wakeboard crazy I was an avid bass fisherman. Tournaments, night fishing and the like. With my stressful job it is an excellent way to relax. NOthing more relaxing than being on the lake after dark. As for fishing from the MC, definitely bad. Like riding a moped. I'm beginning to stablize, trying to get my mind right.

Since you have full access to the X-Star the go for the boat you want. When I started wakeboarding I was into fishing and had a ProCraft Family Fisher ( pics at http://www.bierbower.net/procraft/ ) and it did a great job pulling tubes and kneeboards for the kids. We wakeboarded behind it as well - it was no X-Star but it was still way better better than not wakeboarding. Kids sure love fishing and it's a great way to spend time with your kids. I really enjoy fishing and if I had the time I still would. Definately relaxing. Seems like anytime we get on the lake now, the day is over before everyone is worn out from riding and ready for fishing. And I keep a fishing pole in my Tige

I'm within 3 weeks of 33, and quite frankly, it might just be that my heart isn't in it anymore. However, that could change again....

Take whatever boat you will use more, no sense not using a boat. If you have access to the X-Star whenever get the bullet. I have caught plenty of fish out of our Tige. One day we had blood everywhere, deep hooked a trout and it flopped on everything in the boat. I'm considering buying a bass boat myself, but it will be an 18 foot tracker. Something I can fish and duck hunt out of, and it will not set me back like the Tige. Good luck whatever you do.

I sold my prostar 190 after I rode behind an X-star, and I am glad i did it. I would get rid of the 190...what you buy after that is up to you...remember some wakeboard boats come with snap out carpet...helps from getting fish blood everywhere.

A Fishing Story. A young guy from Missouri moves to Florida and goes to a big "everything-under-one-roof" department store looking for a job. The manager says, "Do you have any sales experience?" The kid says, "Well, I was a salesman back home in Missouri." The boss liked the kid so he gave him the job. "You start tomorrow. I'll come down after we close and see how you did." His first day on the job was rough but he got through it. After the store was locked up, the boss came down to see how he did. "How many sales did you make today?" The kid says, "One." The boss says, "Just one?!! Our sales people average 20 to 30 sales a day! How much was the sale for? "The kid says,"$101,237.64." The boss says, "$101,237.64? WHAT THE HELL DID YOU SELL?" Kid says, "First I sold him a small fish hook. Then I sold him a medium fish hook. Then I sold him a larger fish hook. Then I sold him a new fishing rod. Then I asked him where he was going fishing and he said down in the Keys, so I told him he would definitely need a boat. So, we went down to the boat department and I sold him that twin-engine Chris Craft. Then he said he didn't think his Honda Civic would pull it, so took him down to the automotive department and sold him that 4x4 Expedition. The boss said, "So, a guy came in here to buy a fish hook and you sold him a BOAT AND A TRUCK??" The kid replied, "No, he came in here to buy a box of tampons for his wife; and I said, well, your weekend's shot. You might as well go fishing!" A Fishing Story. Keep your boat and buy a hydrofoil Sky Ski or Air Chair. You will be doing inverts in no time and no more knee problems. 45 and hooked on foiling. Phil
