I've been trying to find out if the Tige RZ4 will get the 8.1L. I heard Tige was possibly looking into offering the 8.1, since the 6.0 has had so many problems. Does anyone know?

I have heard of a BIG diesle motor for the RZ4. When I picked up my 20V from the factory they had a monster motor shoe horned into a 24V prototype boat. Tige builds boats out in the prairie where no cameras show up so no telling what they have cooking.

I don't know any inside details, but I am not sure I would consider buying that engine with an RZ4. My 24V does very well with just the 340HP 5.7L. THe RZ4 will weigh about 300 pounds more is all. The running surface will be identical. I have not heard about the 6.0 having so many problems. Is that not well publicized?

Tige is offering a 360HP 5.7L that is somehow jazzed up to give some extra power. Unless you are running 2500 pounds daily, you might not need that much power that the 8.1 offers. The 42 gallon fuel tank will seem sort of small if you get that engine as well.

Keep in mind with horse power, manufacturers are allowed a 10% leniency. So the PCM 330 MP 340 and Indmar 350 are same block and same horsepower really. That 360 5.7 may not be that jazzed up. Tige's do fine with the 5.7, even the 24ve with weight. If your a pro with 4-5000 always in your boat, yeah get that 8.1.

we have the new 5.7 in our 07 24ve and are running about 2000 lbs in the boat and it has way more power than the 6.0 we had in our 04 24v. so far we have not had any problems at all with it. plus the taps makes it easier to get up on plane a little faster too.

The problem is that I boat around 6000ft, in Colorado. V8's run like V6's here. I also usually run 2k plus in the boat, and 8-12 adults. My boat sits really low in the water. I need a motor that is over 400hp, with reliability. The 6.0 I was running in my 24ve had more issues than I could list. However, Tige's been really good about helping me with the issues.

Talltigeguy, your right on the fuel tank size. If they offer that 8.1, they'll need a much bigger fuel tank in the boat. I think master craft offers a 90 gallon in the X-45. I could really use that bigger tank regardless of the motor. I hate having to carry gas cans in my boat, when I go to powell or mead.

This all stems from the advanced hull design on Tige's. The boat planes and gets better milage than other inboards. My 22V with the MarinePower 340 rules.

At 6000 ft. he's down 25% on power just because of the altitude. The best solution is a turbocharged engine although the easiest fix is a bolt on supercharger like a Paxton kit. There just isn't enough air.

I agree with the supercharger, but I bet the reliability would go way down hill. Where can I look into that Paxton kit?

Speed shops. Reliability is only affected when you get more than the design power in the engine. You don't have cooling problems like a car does at high altitude so just keep the boost low. Run higher octane fuel.
A screw type blower is more efficient than an impeller like the Paxton but much tougher to install.

You could look at a couple paxton, vortech, or ATI. If you google any of those the companies will come up and then find a local dealer. ATI makes marine specific blowers. Also consider a roots style such as kenne bell or magnacharger, the hard part is getting a fuel map to match the new power curve so that the reliability is still there. Detonation is what kills a high hp motor. I wouldn't consider 400hp high but with altitude you need to make more than the avg. guy.

Thanks for all the input. My tige dealer is going to cringe if I mention putting a charger on my motor. I can't wait to mention it to him!

Forgot to add roots style will make more torque lower vs. centrifigal.

I heard that the decision is coming down to the wire, I've got my fingers crossed!

What prop are you guys running? The OJ XMPEdge did wonders for my hole shot when fully loaded. (Think the prop is 14.25x14.5)
