Hey everyone, I'm sure this question gets asked alot, but I searched and didn't find anything recent. I just got my first wakeskate and was wondering if actual wakeskate shoes are necessary, or if I'm fine just wearing whatever? If you think I need actual wakeskate shoes, any suggestions? There doesn't seem to be many different choices.

If regular shoes are fine, would I be better with skateboard shoes, or just regular athletic shoes? Most skate shoes seem like they would gold lots of water and get heavy.

Thanks in advance.

wakeskate shoes work well

but skate shoes work great. Just make sure they are not heavily padded, since that is what absorbs water. Vans work great and DVS has a lot of good pairs (my two favs). Skate shoes work best because their flat and thin sole allows you to feel the board better and does not absorb energy when you are trying to do tricks. They also provide just enough support.

Athletic shoes have too much going on in the soles. It makes you feel very disconnected to the board. Plus they arent designed to handle the abuse of griptape.

Thanks for the quick replies guys, I'm pumped to start learning how to wakeskate. I've been wakeboarding forever and it's time to try something different.

Can you do this with no shoes at all?

Yeah but if you have skateboard type grip tape on your wakeskate you'd better have some really thick callouses on your feet. There are skates with foam grip pads though.
